I am building a new home and want to make sure I have the right electrical in the garage for Model X charger - Any info would be greatly appreciated
Should be the same as the MS - 220V 50A line with a NEMA 14-50 outlet.
If you can afford fastest rate option with your built-in on-board Twin Chargers (58 miles / hour,) you should get a set up for 240 volts, 100 amperes circuit for your HWPC:
If you are on a tight budget, and for a slower charge rate, with single charger in your car (29 miles / hour,) you can ask your electrician for a NEMA 14-50 outlet rated 240 volts, 50 amperes so you can use the bag in your car with included adapters to plug it in.
Unless you drive a ridiculous amount each day you don't need to spend the money on one of the tesla chargers. $1200 for the pictured one and $600 for an additional one they supply in the car. Just use the 220 plug and be done with it. I've had an electrician install 3 of them around the house (approx. $600) one upfront, one in the back and the other in the garage. I get around 27-30 miles per hour. Plenty for my MS.
It is true that we don't need the most expensive options nor fastest options but for me, it is nice to have the options.
To me, with my Model S experience, it's expensive now, but it's much more expensive if you choose it after delivery.
People told me I don't need 85 kWh battery because my work is only 10 miles away but I am glad I did because I didn't need to drive much but now I drove more than 47,000 miles in 20 months so far (I used to fly, but no more.)
People told me that I don't need to pay for Service Plans nor Extended warranty but I am glad I did (just read with all the complaints of what could go wrong in the forum.)
They also told me that I don't need to pay extra for for the twin chargers because 1) it's useless with Superchargers 2) most public chargers are not 80 Amperes any how. But I am glad that I did because it's sure much faster at a Service Center HPWC than other public chargers as currently Superchargers are not omnipresent.
The same is true with a faster charging option at home. No I don't need that faster rate every day, but I am sure that I chose it!
I agree with Tam on all he mentioned, including the initial post about the 100 amp line. I got my HPWC installed more than a year ago. (I had decided to do it in advance when the Model X deliveries were slated for last fall, and stuck with my schedule despite the delay).
One reason for that is that I wanted two meters, so that I could see specifically how much power I was using for the car. I also had had to have a 100 amp 240v line installed. Another reason for me to have done it so early is to separate the cost from the cost of the car. All in all, the project cost me well over 2k, which will be long behind me when I finally get the car.
It is important to get the highest amp line installed, even if you do not think you will need it now. Since you are building a new home, it makes sense to invest a little extra. Changing it later will just cost more. The other manufacturers are so far behind, that I am not concerned about having the Tesla specific HPWC, of course if the breaker box is in the garage it will be even easier. In my case I had to run the wire from the basement (about 50 feet.)
At one point I regretted buying two and only two things when I purchased my 85, 20 months and 44K miles ago, the HPWC and dual chargers. I lamented about buying them as I found out that charging at home on a 240V circuit was just fine. Really didn't need the HPWC nor dual chargers. This feeling was supported after my first road trip using SCers. They bypass the on-board chargers in your car and thus dual chargers are useless.
However about 1/2 way into ownership I ran into a few situations where having the HPWC came in very handy. If I did not have it I would have been waiting much longer than otherwise. (Time is money!) Then recently with the advent of HPWC popping up all over the country at hotels I realized that the dual chargers are indeed going to be very very handy.
Elon has often said he likes options. Buying options into your new X is wise, IMHO.
I now have no regrets on anything I purchased with the car.
It's true, having all the options are great. I would love to have the option to have a private jet at my local airport ready for me 24/7, but like many things, it's just not necessary. The few times that private jet would be handy is not worth the expense.
I'm just showing that being practical can also work out well.

I have to agree with those who said it- get the dual chargers and HPWC.
Regardless, have your electrician plumb your proposed location with the 100 amp wiring and breaker. If you don't want to actually buy the high power wall charger you will have spend a small incremental amount for the 50 amp vs the 100 amp wiring and 100 amp breaker, there is nothing wrong with putting the L14-50 50 amp 2040 outlet on the end of that wiring if you aren't ready to go HPWC and when that day does come and you decide you do want to charge faster than 40 amps at a time using the portable cable that comes with the car, you will have a very easy install to upgrade from that L14-50 outlet -- or leave it there in place and put the high power wall charger next to it, it's perfectly fine.
I say this having years ago already installed L14-50 50 amp outlets everywhere (home, other home, office, warehouse, etc) in my life because that's the same plug as the shore cord on our RV, so when I got the Tesla I had to do zero to be able to plug it in at any of those locations. That said, I had no hesitation to also install a high power wall charger at our home and I'll be doing the same at our other home eventually.
Personally, I find it a drag to be constantly taking the charging cable out of the trunk of the car and using it on a daily basis, at our primary location, then coiling it up and taking it with us (or god forbid, forgetting to take it with us!), I like the convenience of leaving the portable cable and all it's adapters in the car. I'm sure my wife appreciates not having to mess with the transportable cable, even if she doesn't care that the high power charges at double the speed.
I have also taken my HPWC on trips and made a kit that lets me throw open anybody's electrical sub-panel and stick a prewired breaker into their panel and a temporary clamp to ground to let us suck down the full 80 amps while on the road. I know that many of you will think I'm nuts but I can tell you that not being stuck somewhere where there aren't superchargers and not being stuck to only charging 40 amps from 50 amp RV outlets has been a game changer on some trips... that's 5 hours vs 10 hours for a full recharge in the middle of nowhere.
