Signature Model X - Delivery early 2014

I'm sorry if this is a double message. However, when I click my Tesla Model X reservation for "upgrade". I get to a new picture, where it is stated that Tesla X is to be delivered in "early 2014".

We are talking about 7 months from now!

Someone over at teslamotorsclub.com asked someone at Tesla about that at got an apology saying that it's incorrect. It will be late 2014 for the first X deliveries. Sorry!

Here's the thread...

You'll see that I brought up the very same bit of info at the bottom of page 2 with the response on page 3.

Cheers!

If Model X deliveries start late 2014, that just gives me more time to save for the Gen 3 :-)

I still have a snapshot of the Tesla Upgrade page where it say's "early 2014".

I was wondering for a while if I was too sleepy that night and had read wrong. So it is good to view the e-mail I sent to my friends the evening of 24th July, 22:50 hours.

Too sad to understand that it was a writing error!

Reconsidering my upgrading to Limited edition.

I wonder why they need Signatures for the X series. TM is no longer in need of the financial support, etc. Seems like more trouble than it's worth, now.

@Brian H
I'm guessing it's because it's a brand new vehicle model. Although I might be surprised if they do the same with the GenIII.

Why not? Sell the privilege... as long as there are customers, there is market.

Devilstower | 21. August 2013

As long as there are people who will pay a premium to be at the front of the line, why not take their money?

Brian H | 22. August 2013

Setting up the special paint line to allow Sig Red, and holding off on MC red till all the Sigs are produced, is a logistics hassle that probably doesn't pay for itself.

PatT | 23. August 2013

If you live in Washington State, the difference between a Signature and the back of the line could be the sales tax since that EV exemption is scheduled to expire on July 1, 2015. It is hard to justify NOT spending an extra $35k 15 months earlier than otherwise, to save $9,000.

Hi

On the Norwegian pages - they have now put "Deliveries begin 2015", while on the US pages it is still stated "Deliveres begin 2014".

It looks to me that the production start so late in 2014, that it will be impossible to have the first cars shipped to Norway/Europe before 2015.

Damn - I have an explanation problem for my children.

DGEN4 | 02. Dezember 2013

Not sure if this has been noted previously, but Tesla's recently filed 10Q confirms that X production begins in late 2014:

"We currently plan to start production of the initial units of Model X in late 2014 and subsequently ramp up to full production by the second quarter of 2015."

Webcrawler | 03. Dezember 2013

Since Tesla has not quite completed the design for the Model X, it is very unlikely that that there will be more than a hand full of them delivered in 2014. I suspect that the first 1/2 of the 2015 will be consumed with simply filling the Special Edition orders. Mass production will probably start in the summer/Fall of 2015. All of this assumes that there are no significant production delays...

daniely1977 | 03. Dezember 2013

PatT, Good point about the tax implication. Simply having paid a deposit in 2012 means that that I bought it in 2012, then?

Skotty | 06. Dezember 2013

At the rate things are going, I'm not sure I would expect to see the Model X until 2016. They don't even have a revised prototype yet.

My guess is that internationalization of the Model S has been a massive pain causing far more significant delays than expected.

I hope I'm wrong and that production is right around the corner, but I haven't so much as heard the tiniest squeak of progress on the Model X in a very long time (nothing since about a year ago). They recently eliminated the 2WD version, but I wouldn't exactly call that progress.

Webcrawler | 06. Dezember 2013

Scotty,

I am starting to reach the same conclusion. I may just be the lack of info about the model X from Tesla, but it does seem like it is going to be delayed another year or two...

Brian H | 07. Dezember 2013

TM does not issue progress reports or publicity.

In news this week, CA is granting Tesla a sales tax exemption on purchase of up to $415 million in new manufacturing equipment.

Sounds like they will be cranking up the production of vechicles.
