model 3 screen protector

model 3 screen protector

Hi all, its been awhile since I have done any posting here. I will be receiving my red 3 in about a month. Do any of you have any experience with the screen protectors sold by RPM Tesla specifically the temper glass one? Or if any one could recommend a good one. Seems like a good idea, if any thing to just keep from scratching it and keeping finger prints down. Thanks

lilbean | 10. Oktober 2018

Abstract Ocean has a great one and great customer service as well.

cvillanu208 | 10. Oktober 2018

I'm pretty happy with my AbstractOcean Screen protector with its ease of installation and durability.

Sunergy-NJ | 10. Oktober 2018

I agree with the two above posts, Abstract's protector was amazingly simple to install and feels very solid, for a thing slice of glass. Clarity with the protector on has been great, and unless I'm imaging it, it seems to really cut down on glare. And it came really quickly after I ordered it.

+1 abstract

Burchell | 10. Oktober 2018

I put on rpm tesla’s And it was easy. Just don’t exit clean screen mode for 15 minutes until it dries.

lbowroom | 10. Oktober 2018

I'm puzzled why this would be at all necessary. For my phone that goes in and out of my pocket, set down and occasionally dropped, sure. What the hell is going to damage my glass screen mounted on the dash?

ebmcs03 | 10. Oktober 2018

@sromoda that’s why I opted for the plastic one instead. It doesn’t take that much abuse. The only abuse is when i clean the screen with a dirty towel and there maybe dirt trapped in between and scratch the screen.

No need for $40 glass one. Phone yes. Car no.

mikdot | 10. Oktober 2018

Is it glass or is it plastic, that's why I was thinking about putting one on. If it's got the gorilla glass like phones then probably not, but if it's plastic then I would suspect it could probably use one.

ebmcs03 | 10. Oktober 2018

Plastic is the old school flimsy plastic ones. Tempered glass is glass. Def not Corning Gorolla Glass. But sone sort of hard glass like material

brianblocher | 10. Oktober 2018

I got the matte from abstract ocean. Love it.

efuseakay | 10. Oktober 2018

I honestly haven't found a need for one.

lilbean | 10. Oktober 2018

It's very useful because it minimizes fingerprints and protects from scratches.

12Brent | 10. Oktober 2018

No reason for a screen protector. As others have said, your phone needs one because it's dropped, contacts keys and other stuff in your pocket, etc. The screen is going nowhere. Don't use your house keys as a stylus and you'll be fine. I'm 5 months in and haven't had a single moment of worry about scratching my screen.

JAD | 10. Oktober 2018

It greatly reduced fingerprints and makes it much easier to clean. Definitely worth it.

andrquon | 10. Oktober 2018

Abstract Ocean is the company to go for. RPM Tesla customer service is difficult if there is a problem

CD3K | 10. Oktober 2018

lol some of yall are just buying stuff to buy stuff. more power to you tho, I suppose.

joe.lynn.atp | 11. Oktober 2018

@CD3K +1 lol

dalesmith1962 | 11. Oktober 2018

@JAD, I haven’t had an issue with fingerprints. I tend to wash my hands before I drive. It takes a while before the screen needs cleaning.

I also keep a couple of microfiber cloths in my console to wipe down the screen occasionally. The screen is very easy to clean. I see no reason for a screen protector on a stationary screen. To each his own.

Geozeke | 11. Oktober 2018

+1 for the Abstract Ocean matte finish. Super easy to install and the glare reduction is just what I was going for. I didn't get it for the fingerprint protection -- it is a "touch" screen after all. I got it because the glare from the screen in certain lighting conditions was distracting. I don't find any noticeable reduction in screen brightness or resolution with the protector installed.

efuseakay | 11. Oktober 2018

Re: finger prints. A spritz of eyeglasses cleaner and a wipe and it’s good. I don’t ever see it getting scratched as it isn’t a phone that’s constantly being moved around etc. No glare issues for me either.

JAD | 11. Oktober 2018

@dalesmith, clearly you don't have a teenager riding up front. For under$20 I now spend a quarter of the time wing the screen with the cloth and it works much better. Also, you get the protection thing.

I put the protector on my S screen, I thought it was good. Had that screen replaced with a new one that of course didn't have a protector and immediately realized how much better the protector made the screen and bought one.

JAD | 11. Oktober 2018

Wiping the screen, not wing

CharleyBC | 11. Oktober 2018

We have a couple months of use with the screen protector the car was delivered with, and that's holding up fine.

timc.jb | 11. Oktober 2018

I am also using the screen protector that came with the car with no problems. I don't get any ghost touches so I'm happy to leave it on for now.

ebmcs03 | 11. Oktober 2018

Wiping the screen is fine till you get some sand between the wiping cloth and the screen. Then you wish you got a screen protector. Cheapie one is fine. No need for glass protector.

jvcesare | 11. Oktober 2018

I bought the Abstract Ocean matte glass protector to reduce the glare coming in from the side windows. On a bright sunny day, it was very hard to see the screen.

lbowroom | 11. Oktober 2018

I'm much more annoyed by the fingerprints on the chrome door handles and all around it as people try to figure out how to open the doors. Would love a door pop button on the app. People worrying about scratching the glass with sand on your cleaning rag, do you also worry about that when you wipe your windows and rear view mirrors? Center console wrap for the piano black, now that's an actual risk for scratching, scuffing, and fingerprints.

ebmcs03 | 11. Oktober 2018

Yes. That’s why the piano black center console surfaces are wrapped in clear bra.

Rear view mirror doesn’t get scratched cuz it doesn’t get touched. Plus it’s glass not plastic like the large touch screen.

ebmcs03 | 11. Oktober 2018

Chrome door handles are wrapped in clear bra too!

so getting a third party protector won't affect the warranty?

raqball | 22. Juli 2019

I've tried 2 different ones so far and while both fit great they do not play well with polarized sunglasses.. Has anyone found one that does?

I was going to order the Abstract Ocean one for my 3rd try but see some reviews on it that says it's not polarized sunglass friendly...

lilbean | 22. Juli 2019

I have Abstract Ocean and no problem with polarized glasses.

raqball | 22. Juli 2019

Awesome thanks @lilbean I might go ahead and order it...

ken.lunde | 22. Juli 2019

I don't understand the need for a screen protector. Has anyone dropped theirs?

Joshan | 22. Juli 2019

I agree Lunde. I bought one and put it on and a week later wondered why... I took it off/

lilbean | 22. Juli 2019

You're welcome, @raqball! :)

raqball | 22. Juli 2019

@ lunde My main reason is to prevent scratches on the screen from dust ect and to cut down on fingerprints. They work well for that purpose...

It's a minor cost to protect what is probably a very expensive replacement cost if it were to get scratched..

johnw | 22. Juli 2019

@lunde I saw a few reports from people who had cracked theirs- kid's toys, just accidentally moving something hard, etc. I also have the abstractocean mat version. Also cuts the glare substantially.

raqball | 22. Juli 2019

I went ahead and ordered the Abstract Ocean one in matte. Hopefully the 3rd time (one) is the charm... The other 2 were fine just not polarized sunglass friendly..

lilbean | 22. Juli 2019

@raqball I got the anti-glare. You must be a pro at installing them now. I had a hard time.

raqball | 22. Juli 2019

@lilbean Yeah this will be # 3.... The other 2 came from Amazon sellers and while they fit fine and I've not had any issue I do get the terrible polarized effect when wearing my sunglasses...

Hopefully this is the last one I need to install! :)

pete8314 | 23. Juli 2019

Hey all (this is Pete from AO).

Just wanted to commend on the screen protectors/polarized glasses. Generally speaking the 'rainbow effect' is caused when the layers in the screen protector are not well bonded, or use a sub-standard glue. The other factor is the refractive angle from the screen; simply speaking, the tighter the angle, the more chance of seeing the effect, so if you sit really close to the steering wheel, then there's more chance. Finally, not all sun glasses are created equal. the Maui Jim's tend to have more issues than any other brand (not barbecue they're bad, just because they're one of the few brands not owned by Luxottica)

This is a long way of saying that the vast majority of owners have no issues with any of the quality screen protectors :-)

lilbean | 23. Juli 2019

No problems with my Maui Jims.

AstroSteve | 23. Juli 2019

After almost five months the factory screen protection is still in place with just a few bubbles. When it goes I may buy one. But, I doubt it is needed.

lilbean | 23. Juli 2019

I bought the screen protector to minimize fingerprints.

hherbly | 24. Juli 2019

I still have the screen protector that came with the car. works well

RudyElectric | 08. Dezember 2019

I had no screen protector and it was covered in finger prints. I got a screen protector off Amazon from some Chinese company and it made my screen go crazy. Navigation is jittery and jumps around. changes pages on its own. Won't recognize some touches. Need to remove it. ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCE THIS?

Rikki-Tikki-Tavi | 08. Dezember 2019

Lesson. Don't buy cheap Chinese crap. Check out Abstract Ocean.

Varricks | 09. Dezember 2019

Tried a few from various sources, never ran into interference troubles. But had a hard time finding a truly matte screen until I got one from EVannex. It isn't glass like the shiny (although supposed to be matte) covers were.
