Model X Line in Factory Tour

Model X Line in Factory Tour

Friday my wife and I took a tour of the Tesla Factory in Freemont. We saw the (unfortunately idle) production area for the MX. Of course there was no talk of the MX :-(
There were far more robots than I expected, having worked in a GM assembly plant while an engineering student at General Motors Institute I was very impressed with the improvements they made. And there were several more robots waiting to be installed.

Aren't these robots advanced enough to install themselves? ;p

@Brian: the robots are smart enough to install themselves but polite enough to wait until they are told whether they will be S or X builders.

Apparently, there will be a fork in production lines. Chassis, battery packs, and other common equipment will be assembled on a shared line or shared lines. The resulting subassemblies will then be allocated to S or X final assembly lines where the bodies will be built up and added to the frameworks. There are several drive unit options that have to be installed before the bodies are attached. The X may share drive units with the D versions of the S. But the RWD versions of the S have the old 380 hp rear wheel drive units. This requires the fork to be before the drive units are installed.

Now if you were married to the chick from Terminator 3, you could send her to factory to stick her pointed finger in the idle robots on the MX line and have you Model X manufactured before everyone else.

Oh, the wait is killing me.

These are really driver robots, and they are idle because they did not get their licences yet. That is the only reason for the model X delay ;)

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't talking about what one saw during a factory tour, not allowed due to the NDA? I haven't been to the factory but everyone has spoken about signing a non disclosure agreement. So what exactly are you not supposed to talk about?

They're not allowed to say what they're not allowed to say. See?

Brian, stop it. You should not have almost explained that. It's not allowed.
