Guess the bulk of us are over forty...

Guess the bulk of us are over forty...

Received a call from a market survey focus group on the Tesla last night. The pre-screen was going well, until she asked my age. She was then like, oh, in trying to keep a 'balanced' group they have too many people over forty. Chatted a little more, turns out the only bracket that is filling faster is the over 65. They are having a very hard time finding enough owners under 40.

Only thought going through my mind is how many twenty something fresh out of college 'kids' can afford a $50k Tesla?

So, I guess we are old. So get that car off my lawn!!!

Bartman4 | 23. Januar 2019

Hilarious! My wife is 37. I’m not giving anyone her number!

hokiegir1 | 23. Januar 2019

I was 39 when we bought it...

Bulldawg | 23. Januar 2019

....and you still are, if your age math is anything like my wife's.

ODWms | 23. Januar 2019

I’m assuming most folks are actually over 50.

wiboater4 | 23. Januar 2019

Over 40 but 20 at heart!

TickTock | 23. Januar 2019

Body of a 50 year old, brain of a 12 year old, and the libido of an 18 year old! ;-)

billtphotoman | 23. Januar 2019

I am not too surprised because many of us needed time for our finances to support dropping north of $50K on a car. Many of the people I have met at SCs previously owned mainstream cars but liked the model 3 enough to spend basically double what they previously spent on a car. Of course this is a perfect example of confirmation bias because it matches what I did. 58 semi-retired. Once the SR and/or cheap leases become available I suspect we will see the average age of model 3 owners start dropping.

Lorenzryanc | 23. Januar 2019

37... WOHOO!

wiboater4 | 23. Januar 2019

Younger people will be able to afford used Tesla's . Just need a few years to get some used model 3's out there for sale. My brothers son in law drove me down to pick up my Tesla and we took a model S for a test drive. He knew very little about Tesla before that but wanted one in the worst way after the test drive.

lunde | 23. Januar 2019

I am 53, but identify as a teenager, though I suppose that I am not alone here.

foodking | 23. Januar 2019

35. feel like i'm in the office. everyone else is old and telling me my body aches only get worse

RichardKJ | 23. Januar 2019

66 and 70 for my two Tesla purchases.

ggodefroid | 23. Januar 2019

64 bought my S
66 bought my X
68 buying my 3 —I was so much older then I’m younger than that now

SteveWin1 | 23. Januar 2019

36, damn foodking has me beat.

disapr | 23. Januar 2019

I would have guessed more 80's kids were driving Model 3.

I'm an elder millennial

stockbandit91 | 23. Januar 2019

38, 37 when I got my 3, though my wife and I will likely be over 40 when we buy our Y

aaroncheung1 | 23. Januar 2019

31, It's definitely possible but I've tried to be on top of my budget early. Next focus is solar before the end of 2019.

LostInTx | 23. Januar 2019

Back on that fateful March day when we all stood in line, I noticed a disproportionately large swath of 20something kids in the queue.

What would be interesting to know is the average age of those who cancelled their orders. I betcha that number is under 40.

dappie | 23. Januar 2019

28. I didn't stand in line but did reserve within the hour of the reveal. I really didn't want to spend this much on a car but I was too impatient for the 35k standard. Now with the LR3D I have no regrets and my wife really likes that its the safest car on the road for our little ones.

CharleyBC | 23. Januar 2019

61, but feeling younger when driving Wattney!

Our 26-year-old son also owns a 3, so there are youngsters out there. And, no, we didn’t buy it or finance it or anything! :)

Tootelld | 23. Januar 2019

32, purchased a AWD LR late last year. Guess I’m the outlier, I wonder if I will receive a call.

billlake2000 | 23. Januar 2019

Rpm12 | 23. Januar 2019

Took delivery of mine just before my 24th birthday. Saving and budgeting is key!

andy.connor.e | 23. Januar 2019

25. House first, Model 3 next year!

aurali | 23. Januar 2019

31, dumb techy kid with a P3D+.

coleAK | 23. Januar 2019

I would have had one when I was younger. Ilways meen a car guy though. At 31 I had a $120k townhome and almost $200k in cars (GT3, and Allroad).
But I do agree with the fact it’s tough to afford a >$50k vehicle at much <40, heck I didn’t finish “training” until I was 30.

darrelk | 23. Januar 2019

I am 71 and love my M3. I Usually drive BMWs but their technology package is poor. BMWs have better paint jobs.

shawncordell | 23. Januar 2019

Barely legal with 2 teslas, a solar array and awaiting Elon to deliver my powerwalls.

Millennials blew all their money on the Fyre Festival.

andy.connor.e | 23. Januar 2019

should i be thankful i dont know what that festival is?

jvcesare | 23. Januar 2019

@andy.connor.e I strongly suggest you watch the Netflix and/or Hulu documentary about the Frye Festival, the greatest festival that never was.

andy.connor.e | 23. Januar 2019

Sounds like a gigantic waste of my time, and i'll continue life not knowing.

Trekman | 23. Januar 2019

I'm old and I still had to save like hell to afford it.

djharrington | 24. Januar 2019

I’ve been under 40 my whole life

gballant4570 | 24. Januar 2019

I turned around at 49 and started heading back. I'll be 36 this summer.....

ghgregory | 24. Januar 2019

I turned seventy-ten last week. In Sarasota, that's the age of transition from adolescence to adulthood. Bought my X when I was 77 and my M3 when I was 79. (NOTE: due to my X being totaled 2 weeks ago, I'm taking delivery tomorrow of a demo (975 miles on it) 2018 MX 100D).

Rt002k | 24. Januar 2019

35 here. A couple expensive false starts of marriage but everything's solid now!

ReD eXiLe ms us | 24. Januar 2019

Someone who thought he was older than me guessed I was 35 today. I was surprised, since most guess I am somewhere between 25 and 30. Amazingly, they think that gives them the right to talk down to me in a rather condescending way... He was a nice guy, we had talked for a while before. He was stunned when I explained I haven't been 35 for at least 16 years...

EVolution | 24. Januar 2019

31 y.o
100% ID checked because they think I’m 20
Soon, my 4 boys will be able to buy me beer at the liquor store when I forget my IDs

surfpearl | 24. Januar 2019

Now that you reminded me to look it up... I had just started on my 58th orbit around the Sun when the M3P+ rocket landed on my driveway. It's quite a time machine, for someone who feels 35 normally, I feel 20 again when I get in :)

normtoystoys | 24. Januar 2019

I think TickTock (9/23/19 post) and I are twins...

kevin_rf | 24. Januar 2019

SurfPearl ... Since the sun also moves, it's more like corkscrewing through space around the sun.

nbzach | 24. Januar 2019

23 here. Didn’t plan on getting a 3 so soon but didn’t want to miss the tax credit.

Shesmyne2 | 24. Januar 2019

Love love all the younger peeps buying!
Numerous threads mention when driving around it's the kids that point us out. And I mean children. And it's really cool.
Hubs was 42 when he reserved the S in '12
I got my reservation 3/31/16 at 55.
A favorite story;
In the early days (2013) we stopped at Gilroy SC.
A white S came screaming in and 2 guys got out with PBRs in hand clearly grateful they made it it the SC.
They came from the coast (where at the time few SCs existed) with very little range left.
I noticed how young the driver was and asked, "Please no offense but you look pretty young to own a
Tesla. What do you do for a living?"
"I'm a drug dealer"
"I'm sorry, what?"
He was 25 and owned a dispensary in Oakland CA. He was on his 2nd set of tires in like a year, and he was driving
it like he stole it.
Moral of the story;
The younger gen gets it, and loves it.

Still Grinning ;)

Shesmyne2 | 24. Januar 2019

Reserve for the S was 2009!
Delivered 2012. A very happy day.

Still Grinning ;-)

Was 83 Last June. My M3 is the latest in a string of unusual cars. Mazda RX3, Olds Diesel wagon, MG-B. But lately it was a string of Toyota Camrys. I needed a l ittle excitement for a change. So. I sold my Audi Cabriolet and ordered the M3-RWD-LR the day after my birthday and never looked back
