Anyone buy an Leather Key Fob Cover
Look at Abstract Ocean for a great variety.
I got one on ebay that is a silicon elastic cover, that has emblems for the fob behaviors and protects the fob!
I like this one!https://www.ebay.com/itm/Silicone-Car-Key-FOB-Cover-Case-Holder-Skin-Rem...
I am using the leather fob case from my S for my X and it works fine. Unfortunately, Tesla stopped selling them. You might find one at Amazon.
Did Tesla give out free fob key cover when they delivered the new car?
@cting8606 - swag @ delivery isn't nearly what it used to be. I don't think they've been giving out leather fob covers dating back to 2016. Might be different outside the SF Bay Area. We went on a tour of the factory with a friend who took delivery of a used MS in 2015. We both got a bag full of cool stuff (and we were just there for the factory tour). We took delivery in late '17 of our MX. We had to ask for swag and got 2 umbrellas. And the delivery specialist made us hide those so no other folks taking delivery that day could see we got anything.
Bought one on Amazon. Works fine
Pardon two dumb questions: why do we need key fob covers? Does a key remain equally functional inside a cover? I am a brand new owner.
Key fob covers keep the fob from getting scratched, provide more friction so it doesn't slip out of your pocket, and provides a slightly larger bulge in just the right place in your pants.
Not a big fan of the covers.... Looks way to fobby. That's why I only use 1 of my key as a daily beater. Other key is encased in lucite and buried under my garage floor. It still works so I really don't need anything to start my day. Hope that helps.
Depending on the cover, it can help limit accidental button presses.
I purchased 2 for my S and 2 for my X through Amazon the are well made and work great! Keeps them from getting beat up.
Protects fob. Allows keys to attach. that was the reason i got mine
I went swimming and didn't realize I had my key fob with me. It appears to be fried but I did learn I can run the car thought the app. I am told its like $400 plus reprogramming ; can this be right?
Tesla key fobs are available on ebay for $60-80, don't know how you get it programmed. From Tesla, it is about $250 and I believe includes programming.
