Tesla Model S = the best-selling car in Norway!

Tesla Model S = the best-selling car in Norway!

With a market share of 6.1% it out-sold the VW Golf (4,9%) and the Mazda CX-4 (4,2%) for the period 01.09 - 09.09.

That is pretty amazing! :-) Congratulations Tesla!

How many Tesla Model S deliveries in Norway can we expect in November 2013? Any ideas?

Benz | 09. November 2013

"How many Tesla Model S deliveries in Norway can we expect in November 2013? Any ideas?"

Any guesses?
Any estimate?
Any expectations?

There must be someone who has?

Car-El | 09. November 2013

@Benz

100 - 150, Not more. Remember that Nederland have to get MS before 1-1-2014, or else the MS will be expensive. So i think Tesla are prioritize those customers. We in Norway have out 2017 to bye EVs.

Car-El | 09. November 2013

@Benz

P.S. I wil retrieve my MS on the 20. :-))))))

Brian H | 09. November 2013

Julius;
Buy them, don't bye them. Why would you want to abandon them? ;)

("Bye" is found only as part of the contraction "Good bye", from the Old English "God be with you", in which "be with ye" shrank to "bye").

GeirT | 19. November 2013

Tesla Mosel S awarded the readers favorite in Dagbladet:

http://www.dagbladet.no/2013/11/19/tema/bil/aaretsbil/elbil/tesla/30396142/

Interesting to note that the manager of Tesla Motors Norway state that they expect to deliver 2,000 cars this year; that a 4WD edition is not unthinkable; that the smaller car will compete in the BMW i3 segment...

All in all a very happy representative with very high hopes for the future. This is yet another good PR and will for sure just accelerate the sales.

I took my delivery 2 weeks ago and the car has been superb in every aspect (except a slight software update panic due to call for service). Every time I park people come over and talk, comment positively - and joke about the fires, none taking that danger seriously.

Norway being a minor "speck" on the globe is becoming a serious Tesla country. With Model X reservations claimed by the same representative to be in the hundreds already, and a smaller car soon to come, the future for Tesla in these neck of the woods is bright.

Brian H | 19. November 2013

GeirT;
Nice that they don't "take the danger seriously". Hope the European press follows that lead! Seriously.

Edit: "in these this neck of the woods. Neck is singular; "of the woods" is a phrase modifying that subject.

Mr. Hansen | 20. November 2013

The problem with Nissan Leaf, BMW 3i and WV Up it has to short range. Thise cars are build for city use. And that is why I think Tesla is so popular, the quick acceleration is also a great +. A other thing is to see how many short range EV is to sale after the winter.

Car-El | 20. November 2013

STATUS:
I am on Costline sailing from Trondheim. My Tesla Model S is on this ship too.

Delivery experiens: NON! My flight was 1 hour late. Nerly 1000, insted of 0850 as flight plan was. Have to be at Cosline 1100 and it take about 1/2 hour by bus from airport to near by Teslas location in Trondheim. Then
I have to drive to Costline in a unknown place, in our NEW (not small)expencive car..... I was... I did not... I can not finde word!

I LOVE OUR Model S!

GeirT | 21. November 2013

We all love our cars - in this neck of the woods ;-)

Good to note that Julius is on his way up north - on the coast line.

Benz | 29. November 2013

If anyone sees the car sales figures in Norway of November 2013, then post them in this thread. Thanks

Winnie796 | 29. November 2013

My guess is that the Model S will be the best selling car in November and December.
I spoke to the Tesla guys in Bergen and they are getting lots of Model S' out of the door to customers.

NKinne | 29. November 2013

I guess so. I live in Oslo, now I see 20 everyday

Benz | 30. November 2013

I think we will see the car sales figures in Norway of November 2013.

Benz | 30. November 2013

Next week.

Julian Cox | 01. Dezember 2013

VW golf GTi list price more than $80,000 USD in Norway. http://www.volkswagen.no/no/models/golf/konfigurer.html

Worth mentioning that it Tesla is not driven by inventives and hand outs in Norway, it is just the lack of the truly insane government penalty appled to gasoline vehicles.

Brian H | 01. Dezember 2013

Hi, Julian. Any more articles in the hopper? :)

Julian Cox | 01. Dezember 2013

Brian H.

Yes. Very much so :)

rdalcanto | 01. Dezember 2013

@ Julian
"Worth mentioning that it Tesla is not driven by inventives and hand outs in Norway, it is just the lack of the truly insane government penalty appled to gasoline vehicles."

No "handouts" in the US either. You just get to keep more of your own tax dollars for a year than you would if you bought an ICE. Sounds exactly the same as in Norway, except that in Norway the tax break seems to be even bigger. The timing of the tax advantage hardly matters. The end result is the same. The government gets less of your money if you buy an EV.

Brian H | 01. Dezember 2013

Julian;
Please give us a heads-up here when they're published/posted. Love your stuff.

Benz | 02. Dezember 2013

Soon we will see the car sales figures in Norway of November 2013.

That might even be today.

NKinne | 02. Dezember 2013

November: Tesla 98, Leaf 716 . Leaf is the best seller, Tesla out of top 20.

Hans Otto Farstad | 02. Dezember 2013

According to http://www.ofvas.no/bilsalget/ the November sales figures are 527.

Zebuf | 02. Dezember 2013

The table linked in the above post is a bit tricky, since viewing sales pr. model only displays the 20 top selling cars this year
- which excludes Tesla.
Correcting for this, the November top 5 would be:

1. VW Golf 666
2. Model S 527
3. Toyota Auris 525
4. Nissan Leaf 512
5. Mazda CX-5 250

;-)

Zebuf | 02. Dezember 2013

Zorry, the table was ordered by total sales, it should read:

1. VW Golf 666
2. Model S 527
3. Toyota Auris 525
4. Skoda Octavia 524
5. Nissan Leaf 512

@NKinne, your figures are October sales...

Car t man | 02. Dezember 2013

Wow, still going very strong..

Hijan | 02. Dezember 2013
NKinne | 02. Dezember 2013

@ Zebuf Yes, I see that now! I checked at lunch, Im sure it said November, but anyway, my bad! That fits better with my impression, you see Teslas everywhere now! :-)

Brian H | 02. Dezember 2013

The first column is Year to date. The month's figure is 0.0!! A very strange table.

Benz | 13. Dezember 2013

Can anyone in Norway find out how many Volkswagen E-Up electric vehicles were sold in Norway in November 2013?

I already know that in Norway there were sold 383 Volkswagen Up cars in November 2013, but I don't think that they all were electric vehicles.

Maybe somebody can find this information?

Benz | 15. Dezember 2013

Would be nice actually, if the most of those 383 Volkswagen Up cars were Volkswagen E-Up electric vehicles. Any idea?

Sharp | 15. Dezember 2013

275 of the 383 Volkswagen Up cars sold in November were electric.

Sharp | 15. Dezember 2013

Norwegian car sales first 10 days of December 2013:

1. Tesla Model S: 169
2. VW Golf: 141
3. Nissan Leaf: 129
4. VW Up: 106 (86 electric)
5. Volvo V70: 99
6. Skoda Octavia: 91
7. Volvo V40: 88
8. Mazda CX-5: 84
8. Volvo XC60: 84
10. Toyota Auris: 79

Benz | 15. Dezember 2013

@ Sharp

Thanks.

That is great info.

Tesla Model S (527) + Nissan Leaf (512) + VW E-Up (275) = 1.314 EV's sold in November 2013 in Norway.

Norway is great.

Sharp | 15. Dezember 2013

Don't forget these also in November:
34 Peugeot iOn
29 Mistubisi I-MiEV
24 Citroen C-Zero
15 Ford Focus
12 BMW i3
4 Think City
2 Volvo C30

:-)

Benz | 15. Dezember 2013

That's 120 more EV's. That makes a total of 1,314 + 120 = 1,434 EV's sold in Norway in November 2013.

Awesome.

drax7 | 15. Dezember 2013

Thanks the to netflix series, lilyhammer , I know something about Norway. Love the fact that
They have adopted tesla.

Al1 | 15. Dezember 2013

Those numbers are amazing. Especially considering the fact that

- Golf is not a new car, people know it.
- People don't decide on which car to buy in the last minute.
- Tesla doesn't sell from inventory. November shipments are for orders Tesla has received months ago.

Looks like Tesla really took off.

How's the weather in Norway these days?

Benz | 15. Dezember 2013

@ Sharp

Is there no demand in Norway for the Opel Ampera, or Chevrolet Volt, or Smart ForTwo EV?

Brian H | 15. Dezember 2013

Will there ever be an ELS sale there? ;)

Benz | 15. Dezember 2013

I expect that the monthly sales figures of the BMW i3 in Norway will rise very rapidly in the next few months.

Although the Tesla Model S will be the number one EV in Norway, the total market share of all EV's combined in Norway is a very important figure for the rise of EV's in general.

It would be nice to see that the top three models in a monthly sales chart are all EV's. Actually I do expect that to happen in 2014 in Norway.

Benz | 21. Dezember 2013

Monthly sales figures of December 2013 in Norway will be interesting. Which model will be on top: Tesla Model S, Nissan Leaf, or VW Golf?

2050project | 21. Dezember 2013

I'm really hoping that Netflix features a Model S in it's original series Lilyhammer, featuring a mafia don/Sopranos star "relocated" to Norway… they used a Ferrari in the first episode of Season 2, hoping they catch on to the trend and feature a Model S at some point. (Showtime actually featured Model S in an episode of "House of Lies" this last season…)

NKinne | 21. Dezember 2013

I think they only got 1000 reserved for Norway of the total production of 10000 bmw I3 for 2014. If you order one now you have to wait until 2015. A friend of mine ordered his I3 as a city car, he owns a S signature already. Im getting my I3 in february, will sell it when I get the Tesla X. One EV is enough for me :-)

Benz | 22. Dezember 2013

@Sharp

Don't you have any info regarding to Norwegian car sales in the second 10 days of December 2013? Or the first three weeks of December 2013?

Benz | 24. Dezember 2013

September 2013 was a fantastic month for Tesla Model S sales in Norway (because it was the last month of Q3 2013). Will December 2013 also be a fantastic month for Tesla Model S sales in Norway (as it is the last month of Q4 2013)?

Sharp | 24. Dezember 2013

@ Benz

Opel Ampera / Chevrolet Volt is not selling very well in Norway. Hybrid cars have almost the same sales tax as non-hybrid cars. Opel Ampera costs 50 % more then the BMW i3, and only 20 % less than the cheapest Model S.

I don't think the Smart ForTwo EV is available in Norway.

Benz | 25. Dezember 2013

@ Sharp

January 2014 is only a week away. In the first week of January 2014 we will know the sales figures of December 2013 in Norway. Will you keep us informed?

I don't understand why they do not make the Smart ForTwo EV available in Norway. Because Norway is such a EV friendly country.

Sharp | 02. Januar 2014

Electric car sales for December 2013:

Tesla Model S: 553
Nissan Leaf: 129
VW E-Up: 294
BMW i3: 39
Mitsubishi I-MiEV: 22
Citroen C-Zero: 15
Ford Focus: 10
Peugeot iOn: 3

Tesla came in just under 2k in 2013 with 1986 registrations. Number of electric vehicles in Norway doubled in 2013 from 10k to 20k. There are 2.5 million cars in Norway, so in just a few months 1 % of all cars in Norway will be electric :-)

Sharp | 02. Januar 2014

Sorry, got the Nissan number wrong.
These are the correct electric car sales for December 2013:

Tesla Model S: 553
Nissan Leaf: 337
VW E-Up: 294
BMW i3: 39
Mitsubishi I-MiEV: 22
Citroen C-Zero: 15
Ford Focus: 10
Peugeot iOn: 3
