Just picked mine up in Devon, PA and...

Here’s my first impressions:

- As compared to our Dec 2014 85S, there are so many upgrades. To name a few:

Better, more comfortable seats (leather in S versus faux leather in 3)
Awesome fan/ventilation system in which you can split the airflow
Glass roof
Cup holders
Door pockets
Coat hooks
Lighted vanity mirrors
More range

- Handling is incredible. This size of car suits me much better than the S. It is really peppy and hugs the curves well when driving. I prefer this sized car over our S and my 6 foot tall husband doesn’t feel crammed in it at all. It has much more headroom than the S.

- Visibility out of front windshield is amazing. Though we won’t use the backseat, the arm rest is a nice feature.

- Delivery process in Devon was very smooth. These guys in Devon are great. They were very patient with us. We spent about an hour and a half there even though we are already very familiar with the S. Some things on the screen are in different locations so I appreciated the thorough walk-through.

- Phone app and key cards - we tested both of our phones and both of our key cards a few times since leaving and so far so good. I don’t want to jinx it but I had fully anticipated issues with this since reading multiple reports on the forums.

- * Tip the delivery specialist gave me: there’s a little slip of paper in the car which describes how to install another phone cable. However, one step is missing and it’s not exactly intuitive. After you remove the rubber mat from the tray and access the little plastic part you need to thread the cable through, you need to slide the bottom cover to the LEFT to remove. This might not make sense just reading it but will once you see the little tray. He made sure to tell me as he had fumbled around with it himself trying to pry it off many other ways. Also, at this time, Devon has no extra iPhone cables to sell us. They need to be ordered online.

***Bottom line: This car is well worth the wait! I couldn’t love it any more than I do. My husband commented that he actually likes it more than his S which I didn’t think would ever come out of his mouth about ANY car. I see a second Model 3, likely the AWD, in our future!

Michelle

WantMY | 15. Februar 2018

Congratulation Michelle! Hope you will enjoy it for very long time, just like your S and get AWD as well.

Sparky | 15. Februar 2018

Thanks for the good information Michelle!

KP in NPT | 15. Februar 2018

Congrats, Michelle!

noleaf4me | 15. Februar 2018

Jealous !!!

sbeggs | 15. Februar 2018

Thanks Michelle for the nice review. Can't wait til we get ours!

mikepisko | 15. Februar 2018

Thanks everyone ! I’m so excited to wake up next drive it some more tomorrow! I cannot imagine this car disappointing anyone, I really can’t!

To anyone still waiting, your time is coming and you will no doubt agree it was worth every painful moment of waiting!

rdesraj | 15. Februar 2018

I picked up my M3 yesterday, the folks at Devon PA are fabulous. Awesome, patient and explained every detail. They spent over an hour and half going over all the features. LOVE the car. Ordered another one 2 weeks ago and was ready for configuration yesterday! This car is a beauty! Elon should be congratulated for keeping this car simplistic but futuristic at the same time. ENJOYING THE CAR! worth the money spent even though it is 57K!

mikepisko | 15. Februar 2018

rdesraj - Glad to hear your experience in Devon mirrored mine. And happy you are as ecstatic about the car as I am! I agree that it was worth every penny! There’s just nothing like it!

WantMY | 15. Februar 2018

@rdesraj Why did you order another one? Just curious, is your older Tesla not satisfactory? It is just a car, not an investment, so what is the reason?

rdesraj | 15. Februar 2018

@WantM3. Just loved it so much. I have a ModelX from 2015 Nov. and placed the model 3 in Mar'16 Got it yesterday. and my brother wanted a M3, so placed one for him. Would buy another Tesla in a heartbeat though they are pricier than other cars. Beauty is, every Upgrade is Over the Air(OTA). Got the premium package with rear heating seats, even though it is not available right now, but will be once Updates via OTA are done. Any other info you need, I can provide.

mikepisko | 15. Februar 2018

@rdesraj - Those of us who picked our cars up in Devon really need to plan a meetup!

rdesraj | 15. Februar 2018

@WantM3 Sorry, did not answer your question. Never thought Tesla is not satisfactory car. They are a BEAUTY OF A MACHINE. Every detail is taken care of. Let me be honest, I love these for one reason, I can navigate to any country and listen to their music, drill down to state in the country. Can you imagine that in any other car? Not really, may be in a few years, Elon is way ahead of all these guys....

WantMY | 15. Februar 2018

@rdesraj Thanks for your honest replies. You first answer kind of implied you are ok with current one. I guess it explains why some owners are placing another reservations.

rdesraj | 15. Februar 2018

@WantM3 we can meet up any time and talk and rave about TESLA! no issues. I live in Oaks/Audubon area. We can meet up for a drink and talk anytime

rdesraj | 15. Februar 2018

@WantM3 Were you there yesterday? Around 10:30AM? White M3?

KP in NPT | 15. Februar 2018

Be aware rdesraj - WantM3 is a troll. Just check his other posts.

rdesraj | 15. Februar 2018

@WantM3 Thx never realized. Wanted to help others with sharing.

PhillyGal | 15. Februar 2018

Yay! So many congratulations, Michelle!

Your assessment very much matches mine. The Devon folks are fantastic and even called me yesterday because they realized the told me one wrong thing about the screen (I didn't remember anyway.) She had said that the vehicle stat screen on the bottom left, when swiped to the far right (5th) option was something when really it was for tire pressure. Again, I don't even remember being told something different but how lovely to call me and make the correction.

WantMY | 15. Februar 2018

@rdesraj (KP you are a troll, please stop trashing another thread, please) No, I was not there yesterday. I would gladly meet, just do not know how it could be arranged through public forum. Can we send private messages (PM)?

lilbean | 15. Februar 2018

Congrats, Michelle! So 3xciting!

PhillyGal | 15. Februar 2018

@lilbean - I see what you did there!

lilbean | 15. Februar 2018

:o) I’m so happy. I should have mine within four weeks!

AJPHL | 15. Februar 2018

Hopefully with these deliveries I’ll actually see a model 3 on 422 at some point in the near future—one upside about the horrible traffic will be I will have plenty of time to gawk!

ReD eXiLe ms us | 15. Februar 2018

Congratulations! Thanks for the impressions!

rcobbjr | 16. Februar 2018

@rdesraj Congrats. I saw on another post Devon have 20+ on the lot. Hoping to run over there this weekend. Did you see a number of them? Colors? I saw / sat in the one on display in FL but now looking to compare colors. Once again so glad they are starting to hit Philly Philly!

mikepisko | 16. Februar 2018

@rcobbjr, they have done a lot of deliveries this week. They had everything except red to look at but I’m sure have a few more deliveries to do today. There really isn’t a bad color in my opinion!

mikepisko | 16. Februar 2018

@PG - that doesn’t surprise me one bit that they called you to make a minor correction to what they had told you. They really go out of their way to inform you and want you to get the most out of your car by providing thorough understanding of the features.

I must admit I am more of a “figure things out as I go” type and would have likely signed the paperwork and left assuming I knew 90% of everything already (between having the model S and doing all of the reading I do). But they really seemed like they wanted to do a thorough orientation and walk me through every single option, not just the main screen but every little “wheel” on the right side that presented even more menus and options. I’m glad I exercised patience and let them show me because otherwise I might have missed some of the cool stuff.

I was the last delivery of the day and they must have told us 6 times to just take our time checking out the car so I never got a moment felt like they just wanted to get the transaction done so they could leave for the day. The service manager even came out to introduce himself so that was very nice too.

Michelle

mikepisko | 16. Februar 2018

@lilbean, enjoy your countdown to a fabulous car! Very 3xciting indeed! :)

rcobbjr | 16. Februar 2018

Michelle, thanks! Yes that's the problem all the colors look good. Unfortunately as a non-owner I was pushed back to May-July so I have time but I keep flipping between Midnight Grey, Blue, Black and even Red (although my daughter said I'm not red!) Once again congrats to you and PG, redsraj and all those in our area finally getting some Tesla love. Look forward to hearing more over the coming weeks on your experiences. Best!

mikepisko | 16. Februar 2018

It is hard to pick for sure! I had chosen silver but then by the time the delivery specialist in Vegas called me the day after configuring, I had changed my mind again and ended up choosing blue. I’ve never been a red car person and the midnight was out only because we already have that in our S. Well at least you still do have a bit of time to contemplate and I am sure time will fly and you will have yours before you know it!

I will share more once I have more opportunity to use my AP and more time in the drivers seat.

tbevivino | 16. Februar 2018

That is great to hear. I am a non-owner located up in Bucks County (Doylestown area). I wonder if my "local" dealer will be Devon or KOP. Did the Devon dealership seem to have any other M3's coming in?

PhillyGal | 16. Februar 2018

@tbevivino - It will be Devon. KoP is only a showroom and doesn't do deliveries.

PhillyGal | 16. Februar 2018

Side note: find me on Twitter (@ElectricJen) if you'd like to take a peek at a Model 3 in person. I'm happy to show it off!

mikepisko | 16. Februar 2018

@tbevivino, as far as I know, they only do deliveries in Devon and not KOP. Even if you purchased a showroom car in KOP they would likely take it to Devon to detail it and prepare it for delivery so my guess is that you also will pick up in Devon. They are expecting lots more in Devon for sure!

Michelle

nwfan | 16. Februar 2018

Congrats PA friends, Do the mirrors fold?
I too expect M3 in 4 weeks. Can't believe how quick
my config came through,

gar1116 | 16. Februar 2018

"Side note: find me on Twitter (@ElectricJen) if you'd like to take a peek at a Model 3 in person. I'm happy to show it off!"
Ooohh! I may take you up on that. (If that was an open invitation).

lilbean | 16. Februar 2018

Yes the mirror fold.

PhillyGal | 16. Februar 2018

@gar1116 - Sure is!

And yes, mirrors fold as Lilbean confirmed.

nwfan | 16. Februar 2018

@pg, thanks, How does it compare? Which do you like?
@michelle, thanks for the thread, Enjoyed reading about your spouse
reaction, Wow,

WantMY | 16. Februar 2018

The good news - the owners of the S/X models like Model 3. But some may be surprised as Model S/X are more expensive and they supposed to exceed Model 3 experience. I liked Model S during test drives, but felt Model 3 should be a better value. Despite the fact I like cars, the value proposition is very important for me and I could not find any support for it with S/X.

Pkalhan | 16. Februar 2018

Congratulations @mikepisko on your Model 3. I can't for mine. I do have a question for you or anyone else who may already have their Model 3. What is the destination charge for the Model 3? Thanks in advance.

lilbean | 16. Februar 2018

The destination and doc fee is $1000. Everyone getting the car has to pay it, even if you pick up at Fremont.

Pkalhan | 16. Februar 2018

Hi Lillian, thanks for the post, I appreciate it. That works out fine. I was only asking because in PA they have a $1,750 credit for EVs that cost $50k or less. I was going with first production at $49k plus the destination and doc fee of $1k. That works out...thankfully. I hope I am not missing something.

lilbean | 16. Februar 2018

That’s great, @Pkalhan!

WantMY | 16. Februar 2018

@Pkalhan I put some info in PhylliGal thread about PA rebate you may find interesting. I think the best is to give them a call as the number is on the document with form. Let us know how it went. I will qualify with my model 3 selection in any case, but may be it is possible to claim it even with color+wheel upgrades.

Pkalhan | 16. Februar 2018

Thanks @WantM3, much appreciated. I will reach out to them but I think I still have a wait ahead of me (got pushed back to June - Aug). When it gets closer I will give them a buzz. I emailed them last week and they informed me as long as the car is $50k or less before taxes would be fine. Maybe they will also exclude the destination and doc fees too?

gar1116 | 16. Februar 2018

Pa owners. I'm a bit slow, but I just found out the Pa tax rebate is back. $1750 for the first 500 cars in Pa. Did anyone take that into consideration when ordering options? Does EAP count in the price of the car? It sounds like it would be worth it to get Auto Pilot after purchase then and pay the extra $1000 to get the $1750 rebate.

PhillyGal | 16. Februar 2018

@nwfan - I've written up a pretty extensive set of first impressions and Teslarati will run it in the next few days. I'll be sure to share the link.

@Pkalhan - $1,000 is the destination fee but in PA, there are also a few other small dollars charged when you purchase (tire fee, registration, etc.) but I can't say for sure if that figures into the tax credit limit.

@gar - With wanting a color and EAP, my purchase price was too much for the PA tax credit. It did cross my mind that if I skipped EAP now and activated later I could possibly net $750 but didn't think it was worth it for a number of reasons: it's treated as taxable income (I got it in 2014) and there are other Pennsylvanians who could benefit more when they buy a more affordable EV.

WantMY | 17. Februar 2018

@Pkalhan One thing for sure - they only care about MSRP of the car, so no other fees should be counted towards the qualifying amount, if I interpret it correctly. I do not think the one needs to be an owner to get this clarification from DMV.

WantMY | 17. Februar 2018

@gar1116 just give them a call. The big question is: are options are counted towards MSRP or they just care about base MSRP of the car? It is a $1750 question, lol
