I meant to share this for anyone who is interested. It is a two sided valet instruction card that I made and laminated (made it so there are two copies on one 8.5 x 11 sheet so I could use in both cars). Have found it really useful to give to the Valets and it avoids a few common valet mistakes/issues. I keep it in the center console at the bottom. Hope you guys find it useful.
I have submitted a (fairly detailed) suggestion (via the owner feedback form) proposing that a valet cheat sheet be displayed automatically in place of the map when the car is in valet mode. (Including, for example, a "car wash" button that would stop auto-wipers, give them a big "neutral" button, etc.)
Perhaps if more people submit a similar suggestion it'll get on the list.
I drove my M3 from Houston to Breckenridge, Colorado and feared the first valet instance. Sure enough, at the Doube Tree (not recommended, btw), the kids at the valet refused my 30 second in-service and gave me the "wow, dude, I valet Tesla's all the time" line through their dispensary included glazed over eyes.
Moments later, after complaining that the handles wouldn't pop open, they listened - and learned.
Next morning, when asking for my car, I waited and waited until a kid breathlessly appeared with my valet key saying "dude, your car is broken - it won't start for nuthin".
So in both putting the car in the garage and extracting it the next morning, I had to accompany the kids while getting my 3.
Glad you guys find it useful. I try to avoid valets as well but sometimes there is no other option (happened to me yesterday which is what reminded me to post this). It does seem to help avoid problems (especially inadvertently opening with the emergency lever).
(For those having trouble getting the file, it's the scammiest looking file repository I've ever seen, but the file is actually there among all the giant "sign up now" links. Look for a "Download File" button toward the center. YMMV, Practice Safe Internet, etc.)
