Turn off screen completely...

edited November -1 in Model X
It would be nice to turn off the large console screen completely. Black.
When I am driving to/from work, I don't need any of the information on the screen.
Give me a toggle to simply turn it OFF....

See page 167 of user guide for “clean mode”

Make that page 117 of the current (2018.32 August 10, 2018) user guide.

That doesn't black out the screen...

It does black out the touchscreen for me. Albeit, not completely because it does show “SCREEN CLEANING MODE PRESS AND HOLD TO EXIT” but it is as close as you can get now.

use the right thumb wheel to adjust the screen brightness

oops, my suggestion also adjusts the instrument display brightness.

Is there a way to turn the Model 3 screen off completely while driving? Tried the clean screen mode and it can only be turned on when in park, then when you put in drive screen goes back to normal.

@bryan - Short of cutting wires under the dashboard, no. Might not be legal for tesla to offer a way to turn off the display when driving - considering it shows you your speed and other information I suspect regulators require to be displayed in any car.

@bryan - Also, do you know you're in the Model X forum? :)

My wife doesn’t like driving my MS because of the ‘happenings’ on the center screen. The only way I could find to give her a dark screen was to go to the toy box and open the coloring pad, then do a black background fill. That gives the ‘impression’ of the center screen being off. Not sure if that works on the M3 since the center screen is where the speed is displayed, but it is a viable workaround for us.

You could just put the screen into cleaning mode and leave it there while driving.
