"Auto Steering Option not available until end of this ride" Message in EAP

edited November -1 in Model 3
Alert "Autosteering option not available untile end of this ride" showed up while driving my Model 3 today after taking delivery.

After calibration completion, two clicks to engage Enhanced Auto Pilot did allow me to use this option for few miles and the alert message showed up.

On repetative trying EAP, it did not let me use this option. One click will let me use cruise setting. But two clicks to engage EAP, gives me alert message.

What is the reason for it?
How is this fixed?

    Did you go over 90?

You probably didnt have you hands on the wheel or didnt exert enough directional torque on the steering wheel. It needs to feel some type of resistance or else it thinks you hands arent on the wheel.
At first it gives a pop up box notification and then the screen gives another message and turns blue. If you continue to do nothing, I think it makes a warning sound that autopilot is shutting down, and then it would stop the car. I tested and ignored the warnings until it beeped and then it said I would need to restart the car again in order for it to work again.
Its a safety featute in case you aren't paying attention or fall asleep while driving.

Yep either one will do it that was mentioned. So, you now have to pull over, put it in park, and then put it back in drive and go - you can now use autopilot again...Most common cause - usually not holding the steering wheel - but sound more likely in your case what Bighorn said - you went over 90 mph.

Bighorn- I was not at 90.

Tesla2018- I did receive pop up box message and turning blue, when my hand on the steering was lightly held, or only one hand at a time. This could have disengaged EAP for saftey reason, like you mentioned.

Thanks to both of you for input.

TESLA does not like when you don't do things right.
    You were served!

Before you’re comfortable with regularly torquing the wheel, you can just rotate the scroll wheels. You missed an audible warning as well, but you must have responded because the car will stop and put on the hazards as the next step for ignoring warnings.

A lot of people think you have to grip the steering wheel but it really wants resistance in turning left/right. And what the others said; EAP engaged and accelerating >90 will make your Model 3 very angry.

Always click off EAP before being a jerk!
