    @egonzo21 -- thanks for the advice on staying on top of the sales consultant. I e-mailed him and expressed my concerns. All of a sudden, I'm assigned a new delivery specialist (the one I was previously assigned to is apparently on vacation and didn't pass the paperwork on to his backup) and things started progressing very quickly. I now have the purchase agreement and have sent it over to the bank. Sales consultant has told the delivery specialist to go ahead and get me scheduled. Keeping my fingers crossed!

    @Aerodyne - glad to hear about the Westmont store. That's where I'll be picking it up.

    Additional update: Sales consultant wins the award for most helpful person of the day. Literally within four hours of my e-mail, I went from having had no action to having a confirmed delivery appointment in Chicago at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Sales consultant actually called me to schedule the delivery appointment and was apologizing for the issues I’ve experienced. As @egonzo21 said, stay on the sales consultant as apparently they can make things happen. I’ve even received a call from the Chicago delivery center confirming the delivery appointment.

    Finally the 100D arrived in Tampa and yes I took delivery yesterday Dec 28.
    It was very busy as Tesla staff were non stop getting owners into their cars and onto the road.
    It took a couple of hours since my 4pm appointment hit them at a peak time so there was a delay as they cleared a backlog. Some owners had been waiting 6 hours so 2 hours was considered lucky

    @dougk71 -- glad everything finally worked out for you. I took delivery on 12/29 on my CPO 85D. I have to give very high marks to the Chicago Westmont staff. They were excellent and had me in and out in under two hours, including a tutorial on the car. Car is beautiful, can't believe it is 3 years old. Previous owner obviously took very good care of it.

    I ordered a used Model S in San Diego on Dec 31, communicated the approved loan application details to the delivery specialist on Jan 2nd. It’s Friday, Jan 18th now, a past week the point that the delivery specialist said it should be ready (with no guarantee), and I still have no delivery scheduled and not even a purchase agreement. It’s getting pretty frustrating.

    Just wanted to share another data point for others who are waiting or thinking of buying. Based on some of these comments I think I’m going to be a little more proactive and make sure the delivery specialist is on top of things.

    I suspect Tesla has sales and deliverable systems that aren't scale-able. Those that can put eyes on your car are not the ones charged with getting it to you. The sales people and the delivery people look to the system and all may seem well. Those with eyes on your car know it hasn't been delivered but seem to lack the authority to question the incorrect information coming from distant places like Utah and Las Vegas. Most often it might work but as soon as something doesn't happen it takes the customer to point out that the system is incorrect.
    The latest for me is that Tesla has misplaced the manufacturere's certificate of origin..It is needed it to register the car luckily the paper plates haven't expired ( one week to go ).

    January 18, 2019. 4 days ago I placed my tesla certified preowned order. I’m in Las Vegas and I am picking it up in San Diego. I was expecting today to receive a go ahead to travel to San Diego for vehicle pick up. Still no word from Tesla other than they say to be patient. I won’t wait weeks for this. Anyone getting their order processed in seven days? Thanks!

    I submitted my order on 1/30/19 and it has been nothing but a frustrating process with no delivery date yet. I was first told “ETA is today” on February 6th just to wait all day for their final green light to buy a plane ticket to San Diego (I am in Texas). Did not called me until next day to tell me that the car had arrived but that they were too busy and can only see me until next week on the 12th. Then called me to let me know that according to some obscure “new regulation” from the DMV they could not deliver the car in California if it was going to be registered in Texas. Sounded very strange but they made up for it by not charging me the delivery fee.
    Tesla seems incredibly disorganized, and the “advisors” do not inspire any confidence. I am just hoping that it will be all worth it at the end. I will be more likely to buy from a used car dealership next time

    Diemora ^ I agree as a used car dealership would have everything done sameday without the long wait and back and fourth with 5 different people. Tesla has the WORST customer service and dealership of all time. Amazing product but worst structure they have when customers are dealt with. I have been waiting 3 days now and they told me it take 2 - 4 weeks just to get my model S.... sad that they cannot have this simplified!

    Yep, you have to deal with a bunch of headaches when buying through Tesla - I agree that everyone should be prepared for this. Long waits, spotty communication, no test drive, etc. are all par for the course.

    But Tesla's charging way less for the same car than you'd pay for it at a private sale or through a used car dealership. For sure if you want an easier process I'd go with Carfax or something like that.

    @diemora I think you scored on that deal. As I understand it, when out-of-state buyers pick up the car in California they would have been required to charge you sales tax (called a use tax, but basically the same cost)

    I am looking to buy a used S, to be picked up at Chicago Westmont. Am I able to talk with someone there ahead of time to figure out how long it takes to get a car ready for delivery? I won't have any financing.

    Just received my car my car March 2 2018 got a CPO tooke around 2 weeks to get my car. Communication was sparse but effective when they did communicate. The problem is each step is handled by a different person. Overall am happy with the process.

    I have some issues with my car how long is the waiting time for mobile service center to come to your house
  • Tomries41--took me right at two weeks to buy and pickup my CPO via Chicago Westmont. Unfortunately, Chicago Westmont has to wait on Tesla HQ (Fremont, CA) to do their thing before they can deliver the car to you. Apparently, and I'm guessing here, even through the car may be delivered to you at Westmont, it may not currently be physically there. With mine, they had to transport it in....not sure from where but maybe a holding facility for the Greater Chicagoland area.

    Based on my experience, I would stay on your Sales Consultant and engage him/her to help you along. With me, they turned me over to a Delivery Specialist in Fremont. The first one seemed to be good, but then went on vacation and my file apparently didn't get turned over (or was and the replacement guy didn't want to deal with me). At any rate, nothing was happening until I called my Sales Consultant and politely but firmly requested his assistance to finalize things. Once he got involved, things happened.

    I will tell you, the delivery won't occur until Tesla has applied the money to your account/car. I had an issue once I got to Westmont where they money had been wired to Tesla, but they hadn't yet applied it to my account. Westmont had to do some calling around Tesla on a Saturday to find someone to validate that the money had been received and it was ok to deliver my car.

    I love my car so once you get it, it is worth it.

    Anyone has any idea if they will collect westmont tax around 7% or if it will be 9.5% which is chicago tax rate?
  • I was out of state purchase (from MI) and they only collected the MI tax rate of 6%.

    I picked up my MSD from Westmont. It took 10 days from buying to accepting delivery. I was from out of State and they did not collect any sales tax nor registration fees. Westmont did a great job in prepping the car. It was better than I expected. 2016 with 32K miles and it looks brand new. Very pleased with the process.
    I did not receive a new title. They said registration paperwork will be mailed within a few weeks. I did receive a temporary tag good for 30 days.
  • DGK, are you from a state that doesn’t have a reciprocal tax agreement with IL? I’m from MI and IL collected all MI fees. After two months, I finally got the necessary paperwork to register the car here in MI. Took all the paperwork to my local Secretary of Stare office to do everything. Just waiting for MI to issue the title.

    I placed my 12,004 miles CPO 2015 S85D on March 21. I’ve already completed the information online and are waiting for a call. Car is in San Diego, I am in Dallas. Plan to fly to San Diego to take delivery and drive it back to Dallas. Anyone done this before? Any tips/suggestions?

    Confirm that you'll not have to pay California sales tax when picking up the car. I know this is required for out-of-state buyers with new cars but maybe not for used. If so, you can avoid this by picking up the car out of state. For San Diego buyers, Las Vegas cars do not have a transportation fee so hopefully it's the same in the reverse direction.

    So I found refreshed 2016 AP1 Model S on used inventory on a Monday. Price was too good to be true. I purchased and made $2500 deposit within minutes.

    Did financing through Tesla. Communication was a bit weird at first since this is my 10th car purchase in the last 5 years. I'm used to getting paperwork done online and then going to dealership to sign papers and drive the car home. Delivery communication was sparse the first 2 days. Then the 3rd day the delivery associate schedule my delivery for Saturday.

    Overall, I'd give the entire process 8/10, -2pts from communications issue or lack of response from delivery team the first 2 days.

    I guess I'm one of the lucky ones that got the car quickly.

    kdphan I know its different for everyone but what was the rate of interest Tesla offered? My sales advisor said you will get better rates with 3rd party than Tesla. Also if I may ask what was the price of the refreshed 2016 Model S and did you put down deposit after looking at the pics or without looking at the pictures of the car?

    @hirav.parekh Interest rate was in line with my credit unions. I went with Tesla for ease.

    Price I paid was $40,400. I didn't want to wait for pics before putting down deposit. It was too good of a price to pass up. I saw pics a few hours after and couldn't really tell how clean/abused it was.

    I took the gamble and it paid off since the car was in great shape when it showed up on my driveway.

    I placed my deposit on 3/31/19. That same night I provided all the info requested and starting my financing. Got a call from the delivery specialist on Monday advising 7 days to pick up(today). On Wednesday last week, the delivery specialist was asking for the wire confirmation from my bank and I released the wire and they got it. So now I am clicking interest on my loan! That night he said he would not be surprised if Friday was the day. Did not hear anything until late Friday evening that “it will not be happening this weekend, maybe next weekend”... really?
    Anyway, reached out to them today and was told that they will be moving it from the storage facility to the service center and that will take “a few days”. The storage is a couple of miles away from the SC. Anyway, I asked for a More realistic answer and he was supposed to get back to me. Uhhhhhh. Crickets.
    Sounds like I am not the only one. But i feel like they just gas light their customers to kick their can down the road. Would have expected more from this company. I am sure all will be forgiven once I get me car. But honestly, with all the tech they got. They can do better IMO.
