Other

Philadelphia

Others in the Philadelphia area (loosely defined, perhaps, to include southern NJ, and DE)?

The Tesla Owners Map shows a few - I'm guessing there are a few more as well.

I'm in Berwyn, a suburb about 20 miles northwest of the city.

Looking forward to meeting other owners in the area - need something to pass the time until "Summer 2009."

David,

We are in Newark, DE and are also interested in meeting other owners. We just locked in our selections and should be getting our car in the first quarter of 2009.

Barbara and John,

Looking forward to seeing your car in the 1st quarter!

What are your colors? I was talking to an Elise owner (yellow) in a parking lot today, and the yellow does look quite good in person. I'm leaning toward orange, one of the blacks, or yellow at this point.

Any of you going to NY this November for the test ride? I took one in July, but it was in the city and I really didn't get a good feel for the car.

I am in Lebanon, PA about 80 miles west of Phila and am looking forward to taking delivery of VIN # 227 in the next few weeks. Are there any other owners in PA who have their car or expect their car in the near future?

It would be great to see some other PA owners listed on the roadster delivery spreadsheet created by Stefano and located here http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=pCJRep9XrxXQ1ACs9kPwFeA

Don,

Looking forward to seeing 227 on the roads soon! I'm sequence #862, not expected till Sept.

I'll put mine in the spreadsheet this weekend.

Don,

I'm in Downingtown PA, not far from you. I'd be very interested in seeing whatever you've done to setup your charger. (I'd like to see your car too, of course.) If you're interested in showing off, drop me an email ([email protected]) If it's a nice day, I'll bring my Ford GT and we'll do a little follow the leader and turn some heads.

Dave,

I'm #865 and they're telling me August. I have no idea how this numbering system works. Have you locked in your options yet? I haven't, but expect to in the next couple weeks.

MarkA,

You might want to check with Tesla and see if your number has changed - in the spreadsheet ( http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=pCJRep9XrxXQ1ACs9kPwFeA ) a Jason Ross in Irvine, CA is also listed as 865.

I haven't locked in yet, but they are telling me April-ish. I hope both our cars are here in August!

Mark,

I have decided to go with the MC240 mobile connector instead of the HPC. I am still having a 100 amp sub-panel installed in my garage from which a 50 amp 14-50 socket will be wired. I decided that I really don't need 3.5 hour charge ability and this will allow me to install a socket in our second residence and give me overnight charge capability at both places.

I would be happy to show you my setup and do some driving on a nice weekend day after I have my car.

Don A,

Did you get it yet? I think you'll be the first in PA right? Please keep us informed.

Mark,

Yes, I received my Roadster on Tuesday evening of last week. A very cold light rain was beginning to fall as the FedEx car carrier pulled up. After the first rainy days it was great to take off the hard top and enjoy some twisty country road in the warm sunshine this past Saturday!

Tesla did indicate that this was indeed the first Roadster delivered in PA. Given the amount of time I delayed before placing my order, I was somewhat surprised to find there were no other orders in PA before mine.

I am planning on driving my Roadster to the monthly EEVC meeting in Plymouth Meeting on May 13th. http://eevc.info/

Don,

Congrats! Looking forward to seeing it sometime soon - I haven't seen twilight blue yet.

Maybe I should go ahead and have my 100A sub-panel and 50A 14-50 socket put in my garage a little early (I'm not expecting delivery until Sept) in case you or other owners need an emergency top-up when around Philly?

I'm in Berwyn, PA about 16 miles west of center city.

Don,

I've also put the EEVC meeting in Plymouth Meeting on my calendar - that's about 10 minutes from my office in Conshohocken.

Thanks for letting us know about that group... I'm looking forward to attending.

I'm sure you'll be the hit of the meeting. Thanks for letting us know about this group. I had no idea they were around.

Did your car show up with the MC240 connector? I've read some threads that make it sound like they're a bit back logged on those.

Dave,

Looking forward to meeting you then. It will be my first time attending as well. It is a 150 mile round trip for me but now that I have the Roadster it is just another great reason for a small road trip.

Mark,

According to FedEx tracking my MC240 is waiting for me at home today. Now if I can just get my sub-panel installation completed I will be in great shape.

This is Steve from Allentown #753. Big hills around here. Any problem with that? Test drove one last month in Phili, seemed pretty good.

SteveM: I drove one of the VPs with drivetrain 1.5 on some hills - the tesla ate them up with gusto. It seemed like it was eager to show what it can do. You'll enjoy it immensely on hills i'm sure!

Don, and all others with Roadsters in the Northeast area. If you haven't seen my post under "Renew America Roadtrip" - we are planning America's first green charity cross-country drive in an all-electric production sportscar. We need all the support we can get from other EV enthusiasts to make this the best success possible. We leave NYC on July 15 and arrive in Menlo Park, CA on July 31. We have a couple of stops in Philadelphia area on the 15th and 16th. If anyone is close to Chester Springs, PA, we would love to meet you. We are flying to LA next week to pick up our Roadster for a small promotional tour West coast and then will have it shipped back here.

If you have charity tie ins, other sponsors that may be interested, or want to volunteer support that you can lend to the cause, please contact me.

For more info, email me at

How did the EEVC meeting in Plymouth Meeting go? Is it worth while?

 • edited November -1

Mark,

The meeting was interesting and I am planning on attending again in June. The group is more oriented to electric conversions but very interested in the Tesla and other coming production vehicles. The round trip is within my range so it is a great reason for a longer ride in my Roadster.

I attended the May meeting as well... after the meeting we went to see a electric car in mid-construction at a member's home.

Here's a website with details and pictures for that project: http://www.z-type.net

Also, here's a recent blog post from the Philadelphia Inquirer's green reporter on charging hookups available in a Philly hotel and a Cambridge hotel: http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/greenliving/Juice_bar_for_electric_cars.html

I believe the Philly hotel has only a 240V hookup, not an HPC... still better than nothing and not far out of the way for people trying to do a drive up or down I95. Here's the location (I'd call ahead and make sure the charging hookup is still good to go): Hilton Philadelphia City Avenue
4200 City Avenue, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States 19131
Tel: 1-215-879-4000 Fax: 1-215-879-9020

(Don - sorry I didn't send you these links sooner... perhaps I'll see you at the June mtg)
