Deposit refund

I had to cancel my Model 3 reservation about 3 months ago (found out that their nearest service center is 1000km away and there's no plans to build one in my country). In the terms & conditions (https://www.tesla.com/sites/default/files/model_3_reservation_agreement_en_0.pdf) it says that I will receive full refund of the deposit fee. But so far I've received nothing, no contact from Tesla and they are not responding to my e-mails. Any advice what to do?

How did you request the transfer? I chose the bank ACH and it took only 3 business days.
  • How did you choose that option? When I canceled the reservation, there was no information about that and I thought they will send the money back to my debit card (the way I payed the deposit fee).

It was one of the 3 options. Check, debit, bank. (Something along those lines.)

Good luck! We cancelled our reservation, and requested our refund. Followed up several times, and you get ambiguous excuses, no-one follows through, no-one returns emails, no-one calls you. Always some other department's job, and no manager available. Finally, I started calling twice a day, yelled and screamed at one guy, no-one would put a supervisor on. They knew I was right, but wouldn't talk to me. Finally got a supervisor who actually agreed to personally follow it through, and received the cheque about 10 days later. Five months it took to get the 3-4 week refund. FIVE MONTHS!

Tesla knows talking to people doesn't make you money. Tesla knows the average person willing to fork out money for a Tesla does not have the time to chase them for trivial problems. So they try to wait you out. You can't call them. They don't return emails.

Last year we made an educated consumer decision not to purchase a Tesla. Our experience has ensured that we will never purchase anything from Tesla. Ever.

I requested my refund months ago and have yet to receive it. And by moths, I me like... none months ago. I'm not sure how to go about getting my money.

I cancelled a reservation for a Model 3 back in 2017 when I realized a Model X better fit my needs. The MX now sits in my driveway and I got the $1,000 deposit credited to my credit card in a month. That was my experience.

    Hello,

I canceled my purchase on a used Model X 49 business days ago. The bank I got the loan from is charging me $175 a month to insure a car I do not own and they charge me $120 a month in interest. I've sent many emails to [email protected] and all have been ignored. Only reason I canceled the order was because the Tesla sales guy told me with the price drops the used one is the same price as the new one, so I canceled the used order and purchased a new one I've been driving for two months now.

Is there someone else I can contact? How do I get them to send the refund back to the bank? Why does Tesla ignore my emails? Why do they not have a customer service number? I'm going crazy making two car payments every month + $295 in fees I'll never get back because of the loan.

    Please someone at Tesla help!

You bank is charging you for a car you never took delivery for? Sounds like a bank problem. I’ve never heard of that arrangement.

Tesla cashed the banks check and never refunded the bank. I was one day from delivery of the vehicle. It is common practice.

Xerogas: I have had the same experience as Alex310. If you are located in certain US states that Tesla legally cannot "sell" a vehicle in, Tesla must have the car paid for prior to delivery. This creates a loan on a vehicle you do not have and must keep paying on until Tesla repays the loan. I live in Louisiana, in my case, "my" car could not leave Fremont until Tesla had the full amount for the car from my bank. I "owned' a car for 3 weeks before I had it in my possession. The car arrived to my house damaged and with some issues so I made the difficult decision to return it. It has been almost 4 weeks since Tesla accepted the return. I am coming up on having to make my second payment on a car I do not own...yes the entire purchase price will be repaid, eventually, by Tesla but I am still accruing and paying loan interest. I have no idea when the $2500 deposit will be refunded. Amazingly, I am still jazzed about owning a Model 3, it is that good of a car.
  • I can not get into manage my account to request my $1000 deposit. Help please in details how to request the money
    in Tesla Website. Thanks

@ocamerinotorres - You might try the contact link at the bottom of every webpage. Be sure to explain you can't get into the Manage page - as it may be easier to fix that. Once fixed get the refund through the Manage page. I know it sounds more complicated than it should be.

I cancelled my £5k Taycan deposit to get a fully loaded M3. I got the refund in my bank in three days.

I had a ton of issues with the Tesla ordering process. The website is so, so awful. But someone called me this morning and it all started moving. My original delivery date was early November, now it's late December.
