Feel screen 17" monitor

I hope this technology is ready early enough that Tesla can consider it.

Would think this will help regarding the sceptics with touchscreen and no physical feedback from buttons.

    Perhaps some years down the line, but at this point Tesla has certainly finalized all the components.

    Runar, I agree that this technology should be considered for future Tesla models. For the Model S, it is definitely too late. You may be underestimating the time it takes to take this technology from prototype to mobile phones (implied by the article) to a 17" automotive grade screen.

    But that's just the reality of life. There is always new technology "just around the corner". At some point, one has to make a cut and create a product from the components that are readily available and sufficiently mature -- and then move on to the next revision, that may consider new technology.

    It would also require "Sense-itive" software to drive the fields and make "Sense-ible" patterns. Buttons and such are the least of it. How about Google mapping? And being able to feel your car as it moves along the map's roads. And the hills, etc.

    It will have its real big-money market in powering gaming and pron sites, of course.

    Hm -- a more refined application of the camera/body skin haptic imaging system being tried out for the blind? A big patch/sheet of senso-bump stuff covering the back, and they're good to go!

    Actually, I was wondering if something much simpler and cheaper would suffice, at least to distinguish the persistent controls, such as cliamate, volume, and main menu features. What if there were just small ridges or little bumps molded onto the glass?

    At the risk of suggesting heresy, perhaps you could achieve a similar effect with a strip of clear adhesive plastic along the bottom, with cut-outs for the stationary controls down there. The edges of the cut-outs would provide the edges to help guide your fingers.

    Robert.Boston, I agree. I will try and use the screen "as delivered" by Tesla for a while, but if after that I find that I can improve usability by a dedicated application of tape of some kind, I will not hesitate to do so.
