Just got offered to move up from a P to a Sig!

edited November -1 in Model S
I just got news from Tesla today that I am being given the opportunity to move up from my P3748 reservation, to a Sig! (not sure what No# yet, however, I would imagine close to the end).

Please Note: After all the Sig's were sold-out, I asked if there was a backup list, and was told by my local rep that there was, and asked to be placed on it.

that is very interesting that you got the offer to move up to a sig. Although I am not interested in a sig, I am 3446 and did not receive an offer yet. Obviously they are trying to maximize their profits and get in as many sigs as possible. I was under the impression that they were linmiting the sigs to 1200 for this year.

1000 Sigs are to be released this year. The only way to get moved from a P to a Sig is if you put your name on the wait list. From that point it goes in order of who placed themselves on said list. With that being true this simply means that individuals that were on the original list for a Sig are either a.) using the ONE defer you're allowed b.) canceling his/her order or c.) downgrading to a P. I was bumped up from my P# (3408) to Sig 1101.

I dropped from Sig 319 to P last week. Didn't need red, a couple options and can save the extra $$$ waiting a little longer. Who knows TikiMan, it could have been mine. I have the number RN060742 now. I don't recognize the number style (I may just need to go read some threads to learn). I hope the Elon/Ace surprise won't make me regret it.

    mdennick,

If so, thank you! My faith in Tesla is fairly solid (considering Elon's amazing track record as of late). So, I feel confident the Signature Model S will hold it's value being one of only 1k units. Plus, being I already planned on getting a fully loaded peformance model anyway, and with what gas is costing me per week now days, even the extra $$$$ will be well worth having this car sooner than later.

I will admit, as I handed my extra $35k to my local tesla dealer this afternoon, and he said... "Congradulations on moving up to a Signature!", it was a nice feeling knowing I will be one of the first to own such a groundbreaking vehicle.

    I can't wait!

    mbcaffe,

Just so you know, I asked to be put on the Sig backup list months ago, after all the Sigs were sold-out. I didn't know where I stood on that list, so it was a nice suprise when I was contacted yesterday. As far as I am aware, there will only be 1k Sigs sold to the public, and I was still required to put an extra $35k for the Sig deposit.

    TikiMan,

My wife and I never thought, last year when we reserved, that Sig would cost thousands more than the exact same config P version. It always left a bad taste in my mouth that earlier delivery was the only benefit, for that and the extra $35k deposit. I was holding out for something else, but sadly not. I don't put enough miles on my car for it to help much over a few months either but I see how it could for someone else. BTW, plenty of faith here, and no plans to resale...I can't wait ether, but I must. ;-) Good things come...

I look forward to hearing the reports from you sig recipients.

    mdennick,

I completely understand. On the flip side, my need for this car is way beyond that of many others here. I drive 120 miles round trip five days a week, and in some of the worst traffic on Earth (Los Angeles). I'm also subject to the highest gas prices east of the Hawaiian Islands (and I don't anticipate them going lower, but rather higher and higher over the next few year). Also, here in my state (California), the tax incentive for buying an EV car ends this year (or when the money is depleted from the program), so by waiting past 2012, I stand to possibly lose the $2,500.00, never mind if Mitt Romney becomes president, chances are likely he will end the federal incentive program (up to $5,000.00 back).

Either way, we are all going to hopefully love this car, be it a Signature or Production! :-)

    TikiMan,

Now that's a grueling commute. If you drive an ICE car today it will be a day and night comparison. I live in SoCal too, Yorba Linda, but fortunately don't have to venture into LA much. I see your incentive. Please stay in touch: [email protected]

I also hope to still make the tax incentives, I'm not Sig now but did resever over a year ago so should have a decent sequence number soon. I'll likely choose some options based on delivy time because of the tax incentives. Hopefully I catch them.

So did I miss something? You said $5,000 federal incentive, it's not $7,500?

    mdennick,

I'm in Laguna Niguel! Yes, we will stay in touch!

Yes, I believe it's $2,500.00 from the state, and $5,000.00 from the federal government. From what I have read, it's a rebate done via your tax return. I plan on buying the car via my Corp, so I can write-off any deprecation, etc.

No the Feds are giving you $7500 see:

    Joe,

i wan't aware of that. So I guess as a California resident I will be entitled to a $10k in rebates! Woot!

Re: the 1000 vs 1200 Sigs number -- yes, I did notice that. Went from 1000 US Sigs limited to 1200 North America. I think that counts for the Canadian Sigs (and Mexico?).

And maybe some of the wait list. ;-)

Grats on getting the Perf Sig.

Yes, 1200 equals 1000 US and 200 Canadian signatures.

    Thanks Jason!

    I am now Sig #1160.

Off topic, but we in the Seattle area pay the most for gas in the lower 48, and it isn't even close :-(

    @TikiMan yes, 2,500m CA & 7,500 fed = 10K

ADD ME TO THE LIST! Well, maybe, I have to have a conversation with my wife but I am super, SUPER excited. I was contacted less then an hour ago to be upgraded from the P to Sig list and I just have to figure out what kind of payments I will be looking at and gathering the additional $35k to hand in by tomorrow. My wife will be the one I have to convince, I wanted most of the upgrades anyway so it's worth it for me to move up end get the car this summer. WOW, I find myself super nervous about pulling the trigger but shaky excited as well. :D

Congrats BYT! Do let us know your new Sig number if you decide to pull the trigger.

I called and gave a verbal commitment to upgrade to a Signature, I have another 7 days to dig through the couches at home to find the additional $35k... as promised I'll keep you all posted... :D

Wow! Just got my call to move up to a Sig. Talked it over and we decided to say YES!!

    Reasons (aka justifications):
    (a) I really love the sig red with the white interior and perf leather. Was thinking my P41xx sequence would probably not be delivered until 2013 so I could get the "other" red then, but would be giving up the white sig interior.

    (b) optioned as my P was already going to be (Pearl White, Dual Charger, Air Suspension, 85kw, Tech Package, Leather, Parcel) upgrading to the Signature is "only" $8k premium.

    (c) Dislike: was going for 19" wheels and no premium sound. ($950+$1300 extra).

My smart wife convinced me it was not wise to skimp on getting exactly what I want! So now I'm going to be driving my S some time in September/October! Excited!
  • edited November -1
edit ^^ 21" wheels and sound is $950+3500 extra ^^ so given that I think these are good options (didn't make my first cut) that makes the pure "sig premium" $3,550. Thats worth it to me to upgrade.

I got the call as well! I didn't think there was much chance I would get the opportunity when I put my name on the wait list. So exciting. I will be sending my check in tomorrow.
