UK car advertising trends

Lots of TV adverts for cars, but what is striking is the increasing rarity of any for cars that don’t claim some sort of electric credentials, be it a “self-charging hybrid” driving over an image of the biggest battery you’ve ever seen, a car that is available in hybrid, PHEV and pure electric, or the small pure electrics targeted at young aspirational professionals such as the Zoe, E-Corsa and the like. The latter are pushing the pure electric and plenty of range messages.

Big change from last year. Part of it could be the fines for manufacturers if they exceed emissions targets across their fleet, but it all serves to strengthen the “electric is best” message in the minds on consumers, reinforced by the pre-existing one of Tesla being at the top on desirability.
