Very happy with upgrade on my ‘17S FSD . voice messages are flawless. Maps instantaneous, autopilot nav is great.

  • Ditto. We did my S end of August and wife’s X scheduled for November.
  • +1 Also '17S FSD. Amazing improvement to the overall experience. I feel like I'm driving the future again.
  • How much did it cost to upgrade from MCU1 to MCU2? I'm in Southern California, with a March 2017-build S75D. NO FSD, but with EAP, and MCU1.

    Thanks.
  • @avesraggiana
I believe it was introduced as a $2500 upgrade.

    Correct. Plus tax.
  • They'll knock off 10% if you reuse your display screen
  • DON'T reuse your display screen. My 2016 was just starting to develop the dreaded "yellow borders", which I'd guess will be increasingly common on cars with the MCU1 system as they age, when I got my MCU2 upgrade.

I don't know if the center screen was changed prior to the MCU2 upgrade, but for $250 (roughly) extra, I'd say a new center screen is cheap insurance.
  • The yellowing has an easy fix. But I’m glad I opted for a new screen.
  • I got the yellow border on the upgraded MCU. It's more obvious on the new screen than on my old one. I'll get it fixed.
  • I just had my daughterboard replaced and previously had the yellowing issue taken care of. I'm going to wait a little longer, hoping the MCU2 upgrade comes down in price and/or until the yellowing or MCU1 starts to fail again.

Is the new display screen an improvement over the original one? I got the yellowing fixed earlier this year on our MCU1 and it hasn't come back.
  • Thank you all, for your responses. I was never really all that interested in FSD, but that new MCU2...
  • "Is the new display screen an improvement over the original one? "

As far as we can say, its just new/newer. No hints there's a different recent version of the screen.
  • I heard that the new(er) screen doesn't yellow. Any truth to that one?
  • My original 2013 screen never yellowed, so chances are a new one is more likely to.

    Did your MCU died too?
  • I asked my Delivery Specialist if used S that I am getting had a MCU replaced and he said no but if I want I can upgrade to MCU2 for 2.5k later when it becomes available for AP1 cars.

    At around 300k miles.

    How many years?
  • For all we know the curing process is simply more thorough on the newer model screens. No hint that its a different screen that what came in them.

@Trump_2020, the MCU2 upgrade is already being installed in AP1 and Pre-AP cars. Its out there. Maybe your SC knows. Sales people often do not.

What can you do about it except stick with MCU1, which will probably only be available for another few years? If TuneIn allowed you to access any AM station, it would be moot.
