We had post about Mercedes and autonomous driving from Teslerati that was contradicted by the source even before posting.
The retraction heads the article so odd it was posted at all here as real news when it had already been retracted by Tesla fan site.
"Head of Digital Transformation at Daimler AG Sascha Pallenberg has noted on Twitter that the report from RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland (RND) is FALSE and that Mercedes-Benz’s autonomous program is still ongoing. A quote previously misattributed to the Mercedes-Benz head has also been corrected."
Premise of the Teslerati article was a false from the get go, confusing autonomous driving tech with car mfg with Level 2 ADAS (advanced driving assistance systems). Tesla's current "Full Self Driving" product falls in that category. Why the German courts rules Tesla could not advertise it as "Full Self Driving".
Ford partners with MobilEye (creator of Tesla's original Auto Pilot ADAS system) on Ford 360 Co-Pilot. MobilEye is owned by Intel.
GM has it's own subsidiary, Cruise, which is testing robot taxis in SF now.
Mercedes. the subject of Teslerati's retracted claims, partners with NVDIA
"NVIDIA And Mercedes-Benz Join Forces In An Autonomous Car Power Play"
"The race for autonomous driving is on and today NVIDIA and Mercedes-Benz are announcing an agreement to advance the entire fleet of the German Automaker’s premium vehicles, with AI-enabled technology powered by NVIDIA’s autonomous vehicle compute platforms. Specifically, Mercedes-Benz will be employing NVIDIA’s new DRIVE platform technologies as standard equipment in all vehicles, starting in 2024. This is clearly a huge design win for NVIDIA, as well as a key strategic move for Mercedes-Benz, and it comes with upgradeability features that will be critical to both the evolution of the technology itself, but also new business models that it will help enable as well."
