In stormwatch mode will Powerwall charge from the grid

In stormwatch mode will Powerwall charge from the grid if it is low when the storm watch is issued?

  • Yup. Been there, done that, seen it happen.

Same here. Three times during three different Red Flag Warnings by the NWS.
  • NorCal - first StormWatch event of 2021. High winds + modest fire danger.

Same here in SoCal as well. Although this is my second one in less than two weeks. We just came off a Red Flag Warning last week, which triggered it. Now we have a high wind warning and Fire Weather Watch, which just triggered it again after it was off for about a day.

I don't think I ever recall an almost state wide fire weather watch for January
  • Welcome to the new emerging climate change normal - the entire state of California will have a year round fire season.
  • We're on a "free nights" plan - with electricity costing about twice as much during the day.

When Tesla triggers storm watch, the PowerWalls immediately begin charging - which is more expensive for us when this happens during the daytime.

So when I detect storm watch has been triggered, I'll manually turn it off and wait until our "free nights" period, and then charge up the PowerWalls.
