VA Beach Supercharger

I just submitted a suggestion to have a SC installed in the VA Beach area, I think this would be a great location as the run from Glen Allen is about 120 miles. Also it would enable the ability to stay at a boardwalk hotel instead of at the KOA, plus it would make the return run A LOT easier. So if you think this is a good idea and would like to get an SC up and running at the beach please take a minute to go to the SC page and request that one be installed in the area.

I submitted a similar request on the Hampton Roads, Va area. I think 1 SC for the entire state of VA (and that is based on the 2015 projection) is a little light.

Especially since the Glen Allen SC really just a jumping off point for people going up or down the coast. If there was one in VA Beach/Hampton Roads are it could accommodate a big market of Tesla owners that take weekend trips to the beach, and let's face it that is a pretty good amount of people who live in the state.

It's so pretty I almost cried hopefully we can meetup while I'm down there, it would save me a whole bunch of time at the 30 amp KOA charger. If your up in my area feel free to drop in and use my 14/50, bigez1 stopped by today and gave it a test run for me and got about 15 miles back in 20 minutes or so!

If any folks live in the VA Beach area or know some of the hotel owners, here is a note I received from Tesla regarding their Destination Charger program:

"Thank you for reaching out. Here are the high level details:

Tesla has begun offering discounted High Power Wall Connectors to destinations (hotels, resorts, restaurants, etc.) that provide charging to our mutual customers.

There are two basic scenarios:

-For locations that are able to install one or more connectors in a prominent location on the property, we are willing to offer the connectors for free.

-For locations where installation isn't feasible near the entrance or other visible area, Tesla is willing to offer a 30% discount on the connector(s).

If you know of an enthusiastic employee at an hotel or other destination where you would like to spend some time, please do introduce us! All it usually takes is one influential person in the organization to push these installations through."

Did they give you a POC for the program? Just curious cause I know a few properties that offer a 120 outlet cause that's all they have. After speaking with a few people at the hotels they sounded like they would like the attention that comes with EVs and attracting a greener crowd.

Let me know some locations you would like to see these at. I get my car March 10th so I can head to a few places like Catch31 and discuss the offer. It will probably be easier if I can get an official looking PDF document to print and take to them.

I was thinking the same thing about an official looking doc with some stats on EV owners. I was also thinking about certain hotels that have property chains like the gold key time share folks, since they own like 90% of the stuff down there (and won't shut up about it) this might be a good place to start.

Thanks for the sharing Joe! A HPWC will be a huge help especially since it is so close to the beach. What ended up happening with the electrician by the way?

I just sent you an email with the details. I went with the install on my basic panel since it wasn't cost effective for the EV program for me ($1,200 or less I would of been all over it). Go Green electric did my install.

Thanks Joe! Does your offer still stand? We're planning to be at VA Beach on Memorial Day weekend staying at the Hilton. I'm really hoping the Hilton garage has a 110v outlet that I can use but if not and Whole Foods / Coastal Grill are not working would love to have a back-up.

In the coming soon section of supercharger map on tesla website, looks like Virginia beach might be getting a supercharger. Any addl info as to where?

Has anybody in the Virginia Beach area heard anything or done any investigating such as looking for permits for when and where the planned Supercharger may be built?

I was at the Tyco Rd event yesterday and was told by a Tesla representative that a location in north Chesapeake had been selected. No further details were offered.
