Can you recommend a great car wash for Teslas?

I have been hesitant to take my Model S through a car wash and I don't often need a full detail. I would appreciate any suggestions and recommendations for local Bethesda /Rockville / Chevy Chase / NW DC or Northern VA car washes that you think does a great job on a regular car wash the won't hurt the paint. I don't want to pay "detail" rates for a wash.

    Hello-

I received my 70D two weeks ago and, like you, I did not need a full detail. After a few searches, I referred back to this forum and found Speedfreaksdetailing.com. They are in Chantilly, so it may be a bit of a hike for you. I live in Waldorf and I did not want to make the drive, but I called in and spoke to John. I was considering getting paint protection film (PPF) or Opti coating for the Tesla.

Long story short, we spoke for nearly twenty minutes. He ended up sending me a video on how to properly wash the car. (I swear I thought I knew how to do this) and a list of products that he uses. He informed me that every car is hand wash by using a two bucket method, plus grit gard. So I ended up ordering the products, to include two 5 gallon buckets with grit gards and doing it myself.

    Good luck,

I did opticoat from speedfreaks 18 months ago and it's been nothing but the two bucket method ever since. The opticoat makes the process easy, maybe about 30 minutes, excluding tires. I think it's - relaxing.

I felt so bad during our three week driving vacation this summer; I was picking up so many bugs that I had to run her through a self-service wash twice during the trip. I would not have used an automated business.

You get what you pay for.

Flagship Carwash has a self-serve facility off of Rockville Pike that I've used a few times...

How does the self service facility work? Do you still run it thru the wash line with all the brushes etc.?
  • I use the car wash on Shady Grove (just west of 355). They claim that the Tesla Rockville repair center uses them.

I was just told about a brushless wash (hand washing) place over by Golfdom in Tysons Corner. Might go by and check it out.

    A quick update:

I like to wash my car however, I decided to get a full coating of Modesta with Speedfreak detailing. This Sunday, I am dropping off the MS 70D. This process will take a few days. This is what I am getting:

    - Coating Prep
    - Primer P-01a (liquid glass primer)
    - BC-04 (titanium glass coating for deeper shine and better reflection)
    - BC-06 (full wheel cleaner, caliber - easier to clean brake dust)

I visited the location about three weeks ago and was impressed with their professional attitude. They really take the time to explain things. Although they detail many vehicles regardless of price and year, I did notice a few high dollar cars inside their shop. They all looked like they just left the showroom floor - except better! We all have an investment and I really want my MS to shine, so I am attaching a 2 minute video from Speedfreaks for your pleasure. In it, they are putting the Modesta coating on a red Tesla (not mines - I have Titanium Metallic).

    Enjoy,

The last update - with Modesta:

I am including a couple of photos of the finished product. The photos do not really show how great the car looks. I am very happy with it. I hope you can see the glass finish.

FYI - for those that are interested the hand car wash in Tysons by Golfdom (Champion I believe) was excellent. Just took it there last weekend. Takes a little while but they do a thorough job. Granted, my car only a month old so wasn't particularly dirty. May be different results if your car is a mess....

Speedfreakdetailing charges a mimimum of $75 for an exterior only car wash??? Are you kidding me? Try C&C Auto detailing. Curtis and crew come to your home and provide an excellent car wash for $25. Interior and exterior is $40. Curtis services all of the high end exotics and knows what he's doing. TMC members arranged a special deal with Curtis so please mention that when you call him.

@jacobp - I just looked on their website but can't find anything for $25 listed...

@rdainer It's not on the Web site; it is a special deal that was arranged between Curtis and TMC. All you have to do is call him and mention it. He is terrific.

I use a regular car wish in alexandria -- only real difference is that someone has to sit in it. Nothing really different.
  • I use Embassy Car Wash in the Northern Virginia area. No problems. The attendant does have to sit in the car throughout the wash but the wash was good and the ladies at the end dried my car to perfection. Quick and easy.

Could you please post a phone number for C&C? There are a few of them on an internet search. Thank you.

    (703) 855-8522 . That is Curtis' cell. Please reference the TMC club discount and tell him that Jacob referred you. Thanks. He is fantastic.
