Sounds like us without AP don't get the feature. There is no summon button.
For those with the summon button on the app, in the Summon screen there is a little homelink button in the top-corner. Perhaps that is what you are looking for? It may only appear when you're near the GPS location of the garage.
Well I'll be darned: the update now gives us similar functionality to the iPhone users. Thanks, Tesla!
(Tested the app summon, works great.)
And for the record, there is a separate HomeLink button in the upper right hand corner that allows independent opening/closing (in addition to the Summon settings sending these automatically).
It would be really nice if the 'classic' owners could get that homelink button as well. I have the option to be notified if my car is summoned. But of course I probably would like to know if my non-AP car is 'summoned' .
So far, I've been able to summon my car from the garage with the fob, but not with the app for Android or iOS. With either app, the process starts, nothing tries to open the garage door, and the app eventually gives up and puts the car in park. But the Homelink button on the app works. If I press it while the car is sitting there in reverse, the door will open and the car will eventually back out. But that makes the app pointless. I'm better off with the fob.
Since it makes sense that Homelink would be taken care of as part of the summon process, then the only reason I can think of having the Homelink button is to be used independently of the summon process. But that may not be possible. For example, if the car is plugged in, I won't be able to summon it. I might want to close the garage door though, but that wouldn't be possible since I'd have to pull up the summon screen to do that, which couldn't be done when the car is plugged in.

The Summon feature for AP cars does use Homelink. Could that be what you saw?
