  • Seems like an odd version number unlike any in the past. Are you looking at the car's version number?

My last update was in October, with v1.50.1. Did you look at the release notes?
  • Its a powerwall version, not a car version.
There isn't any release notes, that's why I'm asking.
  • So 20.40.2 is the version you see on the app's Powerwall page when you scroll down to the bottom? And if you tap on the version it only shows the last October release? Seems strange that they completely changed the versioning system, but very possible. My guess is if there are no release notes, it's for minor bug fixes.
  • yes and yes
  • My Powerwalls are running version 1.50.1.
My Android app is running version 3.10.9

Is it possible that 20.40.2 is the Apple app version?

If not, where are you located? That version number, if for the Powerwalls, is a completely foreign nomenclature for Powerwall firmware...at least it's nothing I've ever seen before, in the States.
  • My iPhone Tesla app is version 3.10.9
    My Powerwall is version 20.40.2

    I live in Southern California.

I've read that other folks have 20.40.2 in the USA.

Just trying to find out what changed.

    3 Powerwall 2's

Are you able to charge your powerwall from the grid?
  • Only during Storm Watch events.
  • Wow! I'm in So. CA, too (HB).

I wonder if 20.40.2 has anything to do with incorporating e-utility "PSPS" wind/fire shutoffs into the latest (major) firmware release?

Same here. I was just checking to see if they have a different version number for those that can charge from the grid at anytime (those without solar and those who did not take the rebate)?

People in other countries were also posting on other forums that they too got this version number
  • I just had mine installed last week.

    I am at 1.50.2
  • Dodgerking - "I was just checking to see if they have a different version number for those that can charge from the grid at anytime..."

At this point, that's where my money is.

If so, I wonder if there is a way to bootleg it into other systems...
  • Mine charged from the grid. It was at 26% and it charged evening /overnight. I don't have time of day here because we cannot have that without a heating system.

Maybe the way things work is different in Canada or regionally in Canada.
  • A post from the Tesla Motor Club forum:

OP: "I happened to glance at my PVOutput log and noticed that my Powerwall had been offline for a few minutes. So I checked the software version and it's now 20.40.1. That's a big jump in the numbering from 1.50.1 and would suggest a significant change. I wonder what? Needless to say, the revision log hasn't yet been updated."

Response: "It's possible they are just changing the version naming system so that it matches the one used by vehicles. v1.50.1 doesn't indicate the year or week so it's difficult to know how old the version is.

Back in 2016, Tesla had version numbers such as 2.50.114 for vehicles but then at the beginning of 2017, they changed to the YY.week.release version number such as 17.3.15 (where YY is the 2 digit year). Later in 2017, they changed the version to YYYY.week.release such as 2017.32.6.

With a version of 20.40.1, I would assume that it was the first version released released in the 40th week of 2020."

Seems as plausible as anything else...
  • I found that too. Now I'm on 20.40.3 with my last version update info was for 1.50.1 Oct 2020.
  • Am I the only one that has 1.50.2? Maybe it's a Canada specific version?
  • @calvin940 - I can't say if .2 is a Candian version or not. I'm still on 1.50.1 in the USA. It's never been clear how Tesla rolls out versions, so assume it's random, and usually, within 6 weeks of the start of a new version, everyone gets the new version.
  • iPhone app version is 3.10.9 and PW has 1.50.2. I’m in NorCal.
  • Same as Rossman - also NorCal. IOS 3.10.9 and PW 1.50.1
I also have verified triple redundant connectivity (WiFi, Cellular and ethernet) on my PW.
  • Update - just got a new firmware update this morning. 20.40.3 (yes three).
  • BTW - no release notes.

I have 1.50.2 in the states. System installed with 3 PWs in December 2020.

    Thanks for the info.

I thought I was cutting edge! Now with 20.40.3 out, I am ready at the back of the pack. lol
  • I have 20.40.3 in Puerto Rico.
