Tesla Robot Snake Charge Coming To A Supercharger Near You
Elon Musk called the snake "sort of fascinating in its creepiness," adding that "some version" of it would initially roll out to the company's supercharger stations."
If they get the cost reasonable, this would be great not just for a "Supercharger Near You," but also for your own garage, as it would pair nicely with the new Summon feature that lets the car park itself in the garage. After it parks, this would save the owner from having to go in and manually plug in the charger. That's such hard work, you know.
If Elon is indeed serious about your car going long distance on it's own, how did you get where you are, that you had to send for your car to come get you.
If my garage were wide enough to accommodate such a device, I wouldn't have to worry much about the need for any self parking features. As it stands, I have the terrible misfortune of needing to close my charge flap manually. I think Tesla's engineers were horribly misguided when they didn't come up with a finger mechanism for this that can close the flap rather than expecting the car to do it. Seriously, how hard could it be?
Could potentially help with Supercharger queues too. Imagine if the cars could queue for charging, when it is their turn park and start charging, then disconnect and move to a parking place, allowing the next car in. All while the owners enjoyed their lunch...
jordanrichard - Easy. You may have driven a different car that day and possibly gotten a flat or experienced some other mechanical failure. It would be totally awesome if one could summon their car to the middle of the desert (or, wherever) to rescue them.

I would have liked this facility many times.
Going for one way tramps where I have had to have a car left at the endpoint.
Being able to ski from field to field and have the car pick you up at the last field.
Going for a bike ride where I have to do a loop, but would rather keep riding until I am pooped.
Being able to lend your car to someone without having to do the exchange yourself.
