The Official "My Model S Was Perfect On Delivery" Thread

Car owners often use automobile forums (such as this) to express their disappointment about the delivery of their car. It is human nature for owners not to write that "Everything was OK with my car". The skewed sample on this forum misleads the potential future owners of MS (and other electric cars) to conclude that the vast majority of MS owners were dissatisfied on delivery.

I think we should correct this.

If your MS was perfect on delivery day, please say so by writing a short post here.

I picked up my P85+ MS from the factory on 12/22. My car was perfect. (And after 1000 miles, it still is!)

Albertwar61 | 29 December, 2013

I took delivery of my MS85 on 12/21 in was more than perfect ;) it was a Tesla!

Blue_T | 29 December, 2013

Took delivery of a Blue S85 on 12/18 in LA too - gets better every day! No regrets.

donaldmeacham1 | 29 December, 2013

My P85+ was delivered on a Sunday night and I couldn't find a flaw and after 1200 miles it is still flawless and I have't noted a single problem.

DrGGuest | 29 December, 2013

Hi Everyone, This is my first post to this forum, having just taken delivery of my 2013 Metallic Grey Model S 85 with 19 inch Standard Wheels, with Michalin all weather tires which I immediately switched out with a set of Aero wheels with Pirelli Winter SottoZero snow tires I had preordered (BTW, the Aero wheels are Chrome and Grey and really match the Grey Exterior Beautifully). panoramic roof, light grey leather interior with Carbon fiber trim, air suspension, winter package, fog lights, ambient lighting, 12 speaker premium sound, with folding mirrors. It arrived perfect. The words I use is, "it is a dream come true." It drives like a dream. I have to say it only stayed perfect for 2 days, on the 3rd day, I was showing the owner of a car supply store the car and he put his grease or transmission fluid saturated hand on the cream colored B Piller just 3 inches away from my left ear. It smelled terrible and I could see a perfect print of al 5 fingers and his palm!

As I left, I calmly called Tesla, they said, that is what detailers are for. They were so right!
I had been looking forward to meeting a young couple from Switzerland that 6 months ago took over a detailing shop very close to my office. SwissDetailing were awesome. Greg and Trisha are the owners and gave my Model S and I first class service. Greg is a certified Mercedes mechanic and he said he recognized several Mercedes components in the car including the appolstery used on the stained B Pillar. For $11 more than the standard hand wash and wax, my car was better than perfect, it was freshly hand washed, waxed, and the stain was absolutely and totally gone!
I have a perfect car and if it ever gets a stain or a spill in the future, no worries, no stress, " that's what Detailers are For!
BTW, my car delivered on December 16th, just 2 weeks ago and that was at least 10 days sooner than I had expected. Who delivers almost 2 weeks early, at Christmas? Tesla, What a company! When I say delivered, I live in Bozeman, Montana and Tesla delivered my car between snow storms in an enclosed truck 1050 miles from Freemont, California! In perfect condition! Check list all checked off and in working order.
Christmas came Early in the very Best of ways for My Family and I and We all have the Tesla Grin as a new daily experience.
We just did a 216 round trip supplementing our home charge with the 110 12 amp plugs the hotel had out side for engine block heaters. We got 70 miles in the 15-20 hours we spent at Fairmont Hot Springs, Montana. Our Model S was 78.8% efficient on the 108 miles trip to Fairmont and 73.5% efficient on the 108 mile trip Home. What I mean is, it took 137 miles of charge to cover 108 miles on the way there and 147 miles of charge to do the 108 miles home. I was amazed! I set the cruise control to 77 mph, speed limit here is 75. It was 20 degrees F outside. I set the cabin temp to 70 and all 4 seat heaters on 1. We drove over three mountain passes in that 108 miles for a total of 3,957 feet ascent and 3041 feet of decent on the way there and another 3417 feet ascent and 3712 feet decent on the way home. That's a total of 7,374 feet of ascent and 6753 feet of decent in just 216 miles. We had the car loaded with four adults, 3 backpacks, 3 tote bags of towels, swimsuits, water shoes, 4 pillows a lage duffle bag with all our cloths and 4 winter jackets and camera gear! We even had 26 miles charge left when we got home. For the car to use just 21.2% of its energy to do all that on the way there and 26.5% going back Home is incredible! Zero Emissions, Zero Compromises, It's simply, A Dream come True!

DrGGuest | 30 December, 2013

To summarize, My experience has been, unless your travels include a mile or more of vertical altitude gain and loss per round trip, you can crank the heat, be warm and toasty, and even cruise at very high inefficient velocities, in 15 to 20 degrees F weather and just add 20% to the actual miles to see how much miles of energy you need to have for your trip. I've had those same factors effect my 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid gas mileage by much more than that doing this same trip in years past!

Brian H | 30 December, 2013

If you'd set the CC 5mph slower, you would have had an even bigger margin. Really makes a difference at that "inefficient velocity". Just knowing that is a kind of "mental reserve tank"!

J.T. | 30 December, 2013

@DrG Having your post corrected by Brian H is just another way of being welcomed into the fold. Call it a kind of hazing that never ends.

Congratulations on your dream ride. It keeps getting better.

jks1 | 30 December, 2013

Took delivery on Dec. 7th, 2013 of a P85 and it was exactly as ordered and every panel looked perfectly assembled with a flawless black paint job. I now have a little over 1,000 miles driven without a single issue! There have been two software updates so far that went perfectly as well. I have put two coats of wax on with the first being Mothers Carnuba and the second coat with Meguaires Black Wax so I know every millimeter of the car exterior now and it really is perfect! I look forward to every chance to drive this amazing machine that in my opinion redefines performance and handling.

carolinagobo | 30 December, 2013

Delivered Nov 2013, 100% perfect.

dramingly | 30 December, 2013

Picked up in September. Normal driving (daily commute and a few weekend trips that were well within range). No issues at all.

S_X_NJ | 30 December, 2013

Just got the call. Pick up my MS85 today from Springfield, NJ. I'm so excited!!

MacDaddyDude | 30 December, 2013

Picked up our brown S85 on 11/26 from the Dallas Service Center. Christmas came early, and it was THE BEST CHRISTMAS EVER!

thranx | 30 December, 2013

S60 delivered late October. +2000 miles to date. No problems whatsoever. Car delivered in 99% perfect condition (couple of miniscule paint blurs that were easily corrected with professional Opticoat Pro application).

Could do without the warning stickers on the underside of the visors, though (yes, I've seen the how-to-remove posts)

Warp drive does appear temporarily inoperative.

BobN @US-CA-SoCal | 30 December, 2013

Dec 19, Van Nuys (CA). Perfect car, perfect delivery experience.

petero | 30 December, 2013

DS in Los Angeles delivered our MS/60 in late January 2012. The car was perfect then and 13K mile later it is even better. Thanks Tesla. Thanks Volker.Berlin wherever you are, happy trails.

rocketscientist34563 | 30 December, 2013

I just posted about a few creaks...but they really aren't a big issue. Other than that my Blue S85, air suspension, tech package delivery was flawless. Love it more every drive, : )

nysurg | 30 December, 2013

Took delivery on 12/19 and every thing was great! Already put 1,000 miles it and still grinning!!

lolachampcar | 30 December, 2013

For those that remember my "last two converts" thread, the second of these owners took delivery of his Red/Black P85 about two weeks ago. I had a chance to look the car over at the SC before it was delivered and it was absolutely perfect. I was a bit jealous as it was nicer than mine :)

mclary | 30 December, 2013

Took delivery on 8/16 at the Fremont factory and everything was great.

I have had less issues with this vehicle compared to any other ICE I've owned in the past.

Thanks Tesla!!!

Low CG | 30 December, 2013

I took delivery of my Model S a year ago TODAY. It has been, by far, the best car I've ever owned (that includes BMWs, Jags, Cadillacs, Hondas, Fords, Chryslers, Jeeps, GMCs, Chevies). And it was perfect. But, and this was unanticipated, it's be practical too. With its range, storage, comfort, and operational affordability, it's become our primary car.

Low CG | 30 December, 2013

@2K13MS - and thanks for starting this. The nit-noid stuff about paint too thick, paint too thin, visors too thin, and other hang-nails get old.

moorelin | 30 December, 2013

S85 perfect in June, and no problems 6000 miles later.

ausdma | 30 December, 2013

Picked up my P85 on 12/15 and so far all is good!

merico | 30 December, 2013

I picked up my blue 85 at the factory on 11/18 and drove back to LA. 4,500 miles later (I replaced use of commute car and family SUV - wow didn't realize how much I drove) I have a trip to Vegas, San Diego, several trips to Riverside and the high desert, as well as a 60 mile a day commute under my belt. All I can say is WOW. No creaks, no vibration, no hum...nada! I am beyond ecstatic with the performance and actual cost of use per day. I have power when I want it, or can cruise at 65-- my call! Many people, including strangers have asked it is worth the price tag. I would purchase another Model S in a heartbeat :-)

1: I took delivery from the Watertown, Massachusetts, Service Center on August 7, 2013. The car was in perfect condition. The delivery experience was awesome, and included the willing assistance of the service center staff with my blindfolded wife & son. My experience with the Tesla Watertown SC has been uniformly excellent and I can think of no other automobile service experience that has been in the same ballpark.

2: I was especially impressed when I was hoisted on the shoulders of the service center staff, who serenaded my family & me, lauding our wisdom and environmental consideration. We were sprinkled with fairy dust and, at the last minute, before being placed gently into the car itself, we were each anointed with a single unicorn tear.

3: I actually had TWO delivery walkthroughs, with the second on August 29. The staff spent considerable time with me on both occasions (and with my wife and son, too, the first time). I needed the second walkthrough because on the first one it was hard to absorb everything I wanted to learn at the same car while my 9-year old, very ACTIVE son was present.

4: I used nickjhowe's tesla model s checklist. *VERY* handy.

5: Over the weeks after my initial delivery, I identified the following nits, all of which were minor, and one of which was a complete misunderstanding on my part:

A: Problem: USB music didn't appear to work. Resolution: This was new-owner brain damage. My USB stick was formatted with Apple's journaled filesystem and filled with music in various Apple formats. Instead, I needed to format the USB stick in FAT-32 (MSDOS) and export my music from iTunes in MP3 or other formats.

B: Problem: Right front floor mat tended to fold up rather than remaining flat against the floor and firewall. Resolution: tuck floor mat so that it remains flat.

C: Problem: Squeaky brakes. Resolution: known issue with Model S as brake use is vastly lowered by using regen instead. Solve by temporarily disabling regen, accelerating to a reasonable speed, then braking hard to knock the oxides off the brakes.

D: Problem: Bluetooth music skips. Occasionally, while playing back music from my iPhone 5/5S via Bluetooth, the music suffers from "skips". Resolution: subsequent firmware updates have appeared to me to mitigate but not entirely eliminate this problem.

P.S. Paragraphs #1 and #3-#5 above are factual. Paragraph #2 is aspirational; really, don't you get the feeling that Tesla service staff are trying to achieve the experience of paragraph #2?

TheMayor | 30 December, 2013

I took delivery of our P85 21 December 2013 at the new SC in Phoenix, AZ. The car was perfect and the staff an 11 out of 10. They had it fully charged for our 190 mile drive home.

tezzla.SoCal | 30 December, 2013

S85 perfect in August, and no problems 6000 miles later.

defmonk | 30 December, 2013

S60, perfect on May 5th delivery and still perfect.

herkimer | 30 December, 2013

S85 delivered May 16th, flawless.
Reached 12,000 miles today. Still seems flawless.
Never been happier with any purchase.

jcaspar1 | 30 December, 2013

P85 picked up at the factory on 11/2. No problems at all. Kind of which I had one so I could check out the local service center and hopefully get a free key chain!

J.T. | 30 December, 2013

@defmonk And you have the 14k chutzpah to criticize me for airing my grievances? Maybe Tesla isn't for you. Let's switch cars and see that maybe Tesla isn't for you.

Apologies for hijacking the thread but I just found out that defmonk is an ass.

Feel free to flag as inappropriate. I'll start.

cerjor | 30 December, 2013

Received 12/27/2012. A year and 15,000 miles old. Have driven from Phoenix to Seattle and back. Never a problem.

jacobimm | 30 December, 2013

I picked up my P85 on October 16, 2013. Just passed the 5000 mile mark. Not a problem, everything perfect. Going in for tire rotation on Thursday at the Seattle Service Center.

nkwazi | 30 December, 2013

Picked up in Portland on 12/20. Everything was purrfect. Couldn't be happier!

Doug H | 31 December, 2013

Took delivery June 21, 2013. The only problem I had was that the delivery walkthrough took too long for me. I had been waiting for the car for 3 month and had read and looked at videos on every aspect of the car. But, being honest, I did learn a few things. I was just anxious to drive it away so that I could realize what I had been dreaming for the past 6 months.

The car was perfect. It was also immaculately detailed, fully charged, and parked in a way that the light hit it's curves just right. I could not have dreamed of a better presentation. My wife needed the walkthrough so I guess that was perfect too.

cbassdriver | 31 December, 2013

Took delivery December 5th. Absolutely no problems!

crmohler | 31 December, 2013

Received my MS60 on 12/20. It hadn't been detailed as it arrived late, but they did a quick wash and the exterior looked great. I took it home and vacuumed it myself, although they offered for me to bring it back for them to detail.

It's fantastic and perfect. The only issues I've had have all turned out to be operator error!

LazMan | 31 December, 2013

Only issue now with 20 000K is that I could never buy a gas car again. My wife will need a new car in about a year so it'll have to be a Model X.

I easily beat rated miles in the summer and only lose about 10% on the colder Toronto days.

On my Prius, I never came close to rated ever.

FMRTdoc | 31 December, 2013

12/12 p85+ delivery - perfect first 2k miles.

info | 31 December, 2013

Sept. 20, 2013, 3k + miles, not a single problem.

KKTesla | 31 December, 2013

Took delivery in Sept 2013. It's been perfect.

rfriess | 31 December, 2013

Picked up my MC Red P85 at the factory on August 10. It was, and still is just perfect. My ICE car sits unloved in the corner of the garage on a trickle charger.

Pungoteague_Dave | 31 December, 2013

Our car, S85 #4016 delivered 2/3/13 was perfect at delivery. Since then, not so much, but we would not switch back to ICE. Lots of service, adding up to warranty costs exceeding purchase price, but still a great car, even if not so perfect for TM profitability. Replaced both batteries, 12 volt twice, new main drive motor and inverter, nine new door handles at various times, new brake rotors all around, replaced both bumpers and related hardware due to poor fitment after delivery, mats, footwell cover, parcel cover, and a long list of clips, fluids, and assorted hardware. Two ranger visits, three trips to Service Center, still couldn't be happier. Are there things we would like changed? Of course, but it is still by far the best car we have ever owned, if not the most reliable.

9,000 miles in 9 months and I am still GRINNING from ear to ear.

Every morning when I "smooth" out of my driveway, I start grinning and wonder how I get to drive such an incredible machine!!!

BobN @US-CA-SoCal | 23 June, 2014

JAD | 23 June, 2014

Instead of just bump, I will add my 2 months and 2,000 miles of perfection. My jaw muscles are even getting stronger from both the Tesla grin from acceleration and from all the waves and thumbs up I have to smile back at and I live in an area were they are EVERYWHERE. Was in a random 4 MS parade on the freeway last week.

BobN @US-CA-SoCal | 23 June, 2014

Yup. Agree. 6 months in and zero problems. Well, technically I had a non-critical glitch, but a RANGER showed up in my driveway within 12 hours (and I live 6 miles from a Service Center) and fixed it in 20 minutes. For no cost, of course. I didn't count that as a problem, I counted it as yet another reason to own this magnificent machine from this wonderful company.

sbeggs | 24 June, 2014

3 months, 6,300 miles from San Diego to Banff, Alberta Canada and back safely. No problem whatsoever!
