Ordered AP update, what's next?

Sorry this is a lame post, I just ordered the AP update and was curious from those who have experience ordering Autopilot upgrades after initial purchase, will the update show up as a traditional software update that you need to approve before installing, or will I just need to check "Autopilot" under settings every morning to see if its installed yet?

Also I didn't get any email confirmation, and the charges aren't showing under my history, just confirming thats normal as well.

For the record - I loved my car before EAP, AP, and even AFTER the price decreases (shocking, right?) Regardless of where pricing goes, I've never had a car get so much better AFTER I bought it with legitimate features i use on the regular:
Free Dashcam
Free Security System/Camera
Free Upgraded Range
Free Upgraded Power
Now Updated Self-Driving Features

"Regardless of where pricing goes, I've never had a car get so much better AFTER I bought it with legitimate features i use on the regular"

Agreed!

As far as your main question goes I believe it's just supposed to show up... No download needed. I think it's more of an unlock than an actual update. (But I am not speaking from personal experience.)

Me too, just ordered ap+fsd for 5k, yassssss, thank you Tesla.
It says unlock within 3 days.

roger.klurfeld | 7 March, 2019

If you sign into your Tesla account and choose View Details, ap and fsd will show up on the options list.

EVRider | 7 March, 2019

I’m not sure about the new basic AP, but when I ordered FSD after delivery for my Model S, it didn’t require a firmware update. Of course, there’s no way to know that I actually got FSD, since it doesn’t do anything yet, but it did disappear as an option from My Tesla. The Model S page on My Tesla doesn’t have a “show details” option like the Model 3 page does, so I can’t check there.

I ordered FSD for our Model 3 yesterday, but didn’t get any e-mail confirmation. The message on the web site said it would take up to 3 days to get. I just checked the vehicle details and it already shows up there.

I doubt that they have software created for AP yet, since it’s not the same as EAP. I suspect that it will be in the next software push to our cars.

Jchopkins5 | 7 March, 2019

I ordered ap a week ago and no changes yet - still
Just waiting !!!!

RES IPSA | 7 March, 2019

When I ordered the new AP, it said it would be updated within 3 days. It has been 47 hours. I hope it updates tomorrow.

And yes, my car is hooked up to a strong wifi signal and has been the entire time since I ordered at 9 pm on 3/5/19.

mdarwic | 7 March, 2019

I ordered the AP update on the 5th and still no AP. I hope tomorrow is the day. :)

Jchopkins5 | 8 March, 2019

I just spoke to rep and she said the system crashed and it may take a week to drop in

Jchopkins5 | 8 March, 2019

Just dropped in - so happy!

mdarwic | 8 March, 2019

I'm at a supercharger station and I'm now getting software update over LTE. I have to pick up friend from airport. Should I abort? Also, it says 'Autopilot Trail' lol

mdarwic | 8 March, 2019

The great Elon Musk calls and I cannot deny him! Lol

Check your in-car menu for Auto Pilot and make sure you have the settings turned on.

mdarwic | 8 March, 2019

So I was at charging station for 40 minutes and update did not complete. Drove around with message on the screen blocking the map. Got home and reset screen manually. I got a prompt telling me that update complete. Took it for test drive and no AP. Parked car and got the prompt for AP software update again. Musk taking me on a loop! Lol

mdarwic | 8 March, 2019

I checked the auto pilot menu and it didn't give me option to enable AP so I think there was an update error and have to try the AP update again. I'm on wifi now so hopefully it works this time.

sonywega17 | 9 March, 2019

I bought AP 3/6 and just realized I got AP now. Never got any update request or anything, just got into car and checked the AP tab. There were two new options at the top: Cruise follow distance and Auto steer selector. No AP listing found in Tesla account. Enjoy!

dalesmith1962 | 9 March, 2019

@sonywega17, when you click on View Details under the picture of your Model 3 it doesn’t list Autopilot as a feature?

sonywega17 | 9 March, 2019

@dalesmith1962, Nope, can’t find it listed anywhere

Bought and paid for FSD through my account 3 days ago. Got a confirmation page saying that I would recieved a OTA software update within 3 days.

Didn’t happen!

They did update in my Tesla account that I have “FSD Capability” —yay.

No confirmation email for the purchase, little lame, but they ate still moving at a million miles an hour, “building a plane, while flying it”

I’d like to get my update, and it would be nice to get the Sentry Mode update for my “contribution” to their R&D (or salaries & rent) budget.

I’m a bit disappointed that they didnt do what they said, after charging me, though I feel worse for the faint of heart dealing with Tesla.

Its takes some stomach to deal with the press, the legions of screamers in forums, and Tesla themselves sometimes.

At least its a cool car, and generally speaking it works.

@sonywega17 I got same issue - I got AP update but when I go to AP tab, there is no button to activate. I manually reset the screen by holding down the break and the 2 buttons on the steering wheel. Then u exit the vehicle with my phone/key card and entered again. I got a message that car is updating with AP. I got this message before but the software update completely. Also, dont plug in your car or drive it while updating g or else that will stay on your screen and wont update correctly.

tung1900 | 9 March, 2019

Tech told me to hard reboot last night.
Ap+fsd bought March 6th is on now in the system.thanks Tesla.... : )

Fredvanngo | 9 March, 2019

My AP is ready after two days of ordering online. It has to have software updated to 2019.5.15 before the basic AP downloaded /unlocked to your car. you can see the AP auto steering and distance 1-5 cars activated under AP...
Gonna try it to day. Can't wait!

rmlee | 10 March, 2019

How do you hard reboot?

slabella | 10 March, 2019

Is FSD available? I thought it was not available until later this year . I am wrong?

I have EAP now, so if i order FSD it, now long do you think we have have to wait?

Hate to put-up $2K for a long time.

Steve

mdarwic | 11 March, 2019

I did a hard reboot (hold down break and 2 scroll buttons on steering wheel) and the 'updating autopilot software' message appears again and screen freezes. I can still drive the car but the screen is frozen and i the touchscreen is completely disabled. I think this is a safety issue. I called to make an appointment but the earliest appointment is on the 20th. I've had this problem since 3/8. I'm going to take the car in today because I can't wait until the 20th.

EVRider | 11 March, 2019

@slabella: FSD doesn’t do anything yet if you already have EAP, and no one really knows how long it will be before we start seeing some FSD-specific features. If you order FSD your car will get the capability within a couple of days, but the only change you’ll see is the addition of FSD to the vehicle details on your My Tesla account.

TeslAnh | 11 March, 2019

I ordered AP & FSD and it was available on the car after 3 days. However, it's still not listed on my tesla account as purchased and my sw is still on 2018.50.6,

eldopa | 19 March, 2019

Same boat as all of you guys! I actually had EAP on my car...without ordering it... but decided to go legit and purchased it and FSD. I guess I didn't need an update to the software as I already had it but I've gotten no receipt from the purchase and there has been no changes to my details page showing AP or FSD.

EVRider | 19 March, 2019

It was reported in another thread that people who purchased both AP and FSD might not see those purchases reflected in their accounts until next month, though you’ll get the capabilities in the car within a few days. For people who already had EAP and purchased FSD, the account was updated quickly.

Note that getting just FSD doesn’t require a firmware update, but I don’t know about the new basic AP.

Maverick M3 | 19 March, 2019

After sales price for FSD is reduced to $2000 from $5000. Is $2000 for both firmware and Hardware or do we need to pay additional for any hardware required for FSD, when FSD is available?.

parmesan | 19 March, 2019

I got AP for $2k and was only able to test today. Noticed that AP would not change lanes (unlike EAP in the trial).
Am i right or is there a setting i need to enable to get lane change?

$2k is still a fair deal for AP IMO. but lane changing would make it better.

jvcesare | 19 March, 2019

@mdarwic That is actually a soft reboot. There is a hard reboot that only a tech knows how to do. The mobile service tech had to do it to my M3. I asked him how and he wouldn't tell me. It involves disconnecting the power supply.

luwu100 | 21 March, 2019

I purchased mine EAP on March 13th, I have not received an upgrade yet, and in my Tesla account history, there wasnt any record of purchase, but my card did show I already paid for it ($2000). In my view detail page, it doesn't show anywhere that I have EAP. It has been 8 days since I paid, did Tesla just take my money and dip?

amysaflekos | 22 March, 2019

@Maverick- how did you get the option to upgrade to FSD for $2,000?

I’m beyond annoyed because both the Tesla store front employee and my delivery specialist have assured me that AP will come with lane change, summon, auto park, etc. (as it reads when you click learn more about autopilot on the main site). BUT reading this forum appears they are wrong. Don’t want to pay $8K when I just want EAP features.
Would be worth an additional $2K....

TIA

EVRider | 22 March, 2019

@Maverick: The FSD price, no matter what you paid, includes any necessary hardware updates. As the previous reply said, FSD is no longer being offered at the discounted $2,000 price.

@amysaflekos: The changes to AP/FSD have been well publicized outside the forum, including on Tesla’s web site (https://www.tesla.com/blog/upgrading-autopilot-and-full-self-driving-cap...), so I don’t understand how anyone at Tesla is telling you something different. Perhaps there was a misunderstanding on their part or yours?

tjpdx | 22 March, 2019

@ luwu100 The AP unlock also appears to require a certain software update. I waited 10 days after purchasing, at which point I had an available software update. After installing (to 2019.5.15), AP was available.
