NY auto dealers are trying to ram the bill thru quickly while no one is looking. Please call now

jeroens | June 21, 2013

"Just heard that NY auto dealers are sneaking through a bill to shut down Tesla in NY. Please call your state senator!"

AmpedRealtor | June 21, 2013

The NY bills are the worst in the nation - one of them actually bans registration of vehicles that were not originally purchased through a dealership network. Can you believe that? They want to deny you the ability to register your car in NY state if you didn't buy it from a dealer.

OMG hello?

@AmpedRealtor | JUNE 21, 2013 : one of them actually bans registration of vehicles that were not originally purchased through a dealership network.

I don't know how they can do that? What if you bring in a used car from another state? What if it's a specialty car that is not available in NY (think exotic).

Blue states think they can legislate anything into or out of existence. Logic and self-preservation etc. have been post-modernly deconstructed out of existence.

jchangyy | June 21, 2013

If you live in NY state, you should write to your governor's office.

Jamon | June 23, 2013

What can we non-New Yorkers do to help??

tobi_ger | June 23, 2013

@Jamon: please see the petition topics for further action as well.

Jamon | June 23, 2013

@tobi - I've signed the petitions, but they haven't been getting much traction and don't seem effective. I think we need to put pressure directly on the lawmakers. I just don't know how to do it effectively...

I think this is the perfect time to advertise in PAs what the legislature is trying to do.

Also Elon can give Cuomo a test dive.

jk2014 | June 23, 2013

Wouldn't that be genius if Elon offered to give each governor "a ride to work meeting" in a Tesla MS! All they would do is get in the car, hear his pitch, then get out and go to work. No fuss no muss. I think it only takes one test drive and a few minutes with Elon and things could swing in the right direction fast. Also would be a fantastic PR opportunity for Elon and Tesla.

I'm wondering if someone who has a subscription to the New York Times--just Motor Trend or Consumer Reports or other publications would be willing to contact the editor in chief and ask that an article be written about the status of this crime being committed. I think that the power of the press can be used in good ways. I'm also thinking that sending emails to environmental or political publications/websites wouldn't hurt either. Perhaps on those websites we could lay out what has happened and ask for people to sign the petition from there. We could brainstorm a list of types of sites to post information in order to educate the readership and ask for signatures that way.

bsimoes | June 23, 2013

I just posted the petition site on Green Car Reports. Hopefully, that will help. I plan to place it on other sites as well.

We're up to over 4000. 96,000 to go!

Bighorn | June 24, 2013

These NY bills were allowed to die and won't be reconsidered until January, if I correctly recall the article I read this morning.
