First song

First song

Now that I have received my email to build my Model S, I am imagining that first ride and need to decide what music will suit such an occasion. Radar Love maybe? What will be your first driving tune in your new Model S?

dubaty | January 2, 2013

Love the Steppenwolf and King Crimson recommendations. I am deferred out until March or April, so I hope to get great ideas from this thread by then.

DigitalSavant | January 2, 2013

My first song was "Running Down A Dream" by Tom Petty. It was just the first song that popped into my head to test slacker radio with when I hit the freeway. Funnest ride of my life!

Vawlkus | January 3, 2013

Moxy Fruvus, "One I was the king of Spain......"
Oughta be good for a laugh or two, assuming I can find my copy -.-

TheAustin | January 3, 2013

I was planning to play "Great Escape" by The Rifles, but technically, the first song that played in my car was "Viva La Vida" by Coldplay, when my delivery specialist was showing me how to use Slacker Radio. I was OK with that too ;)

But when I took it out for my first drive, I did play Great Escape :)

"Today could be the day you might make a change..."

viao44 | January 3, 2013

If I had the means/oppertunity to own this car my first drive would go as follows...

First I would roll up a big fat doobie and smoke it in the garage as I stare at this wonderful car. Then, I would go for a nice long drive on surrounding country roads, stopping at straightaways just so I could 'punch it' to test out this car's amazing power.

My playlist would be:

1. Electric Ave - Eddy Grant:

2. Immigrant Song - Led Zeppelin:

3. Funk Soul Brother - Fat Boy Slim:

4. Highway Star - Deep Purple:

5. Paranoid - Black Sabbath:

6. La Grange - ZZ Top:

7. Many more! My taste is all over the map!

When I got home, the battery low, Id park it in the driveway. Roll up another, and stare at this beautiful car as. Once relaxed I would wash and wax the car by hand (even if it didnt need it) so I could 'bond' with the car further.

This is pure fantasy for me - I really hope to own one of these cars one day!

s_curve | January 3, 2013

@via044 - I hear ya. I'm all over the map too. Case in point, I'm leaning hard towards 'Got A Lot of Livin To Do' by Sammy Davis Jr. :-)

RZitrin1 | January 3, 2013

I give everyone I show the car one voice-actuated Slacker tune to choose. It's working about 60% of the time.

First choice was my old law school and basketball-playing buddy, who chose Friend of the Devil. This car is no devil, but the color is devilishly red.

KevinR - I went to Epitaph next for the soaring crescendo. Great!

dstiavnicky | January 11, 2013

"Feels like the First time" - by Foreigner

HansJ | January 11, 2013

Black Celebration - Depeche Mode
Red Barchetta - Rush

Tylyoung | January 19, 2013

Solar on the roof powering the NEMA 14-50 >>>>> powering the Model S..

It's gotta be "Here Comes The Sun" by The Beatles.

We are at the cusp of powering everything with the sun. The Tesla Model Sun is just the beginning!!

Off oil and, off coal.... it all starts here... it all starts now. We're making it happen!!!

kevinf311 | January 19, 2013

"Going the Distance" - Cake

Definitely going to be whipping up a playlist in the weeks between finalizing and delivery, whenever that may be. | January 19, 2013

For every new person I give a ride to I have them request a tune off Slacker. Today it was "Born to be Wild" . Yesterday it was "Washington Bridge".

kevinf311 | January 19, 2013

@KevinR - Neat idea, fellow Kevin named person. I might have to steal that when I finally get mine :D

Electron | January 20, 2013

It was Panama.

HansJ | January 25, 2013

"Face Pollution" by Soundgarden

pb32 | January 25, 2013

Influenced by my 3 and 5 year old, maybe this will be my first song when the car arrives...

"We're going on a trip in our favorite rocket ship..."

rmbod | January 25, 2013

kick start my heart. motley crue

Brian H | January 25, 2013

"We're off to see the Wizard..."

LA-Thing | January 25, 2013

'Electric' by swedish popstar Robyn.

Jamon | January 27, 2013

Mine was "Lose Yourself" by Eminem (from 8 Mile). I never intended it to be . . . but it was awesome! Picking up from the factory, the delivery specialist asked my favorite artist to demonstrate Slacker, so i randomly picked Eminem. It provided the perfect tempo as we worked our way through all the features of the touchscreen - building excitement as each revolutionary aspect of the Model S was finally becoming tangible in my life.

And I loved the irony of blasting Detroit's iconic song as I prepared to whisk out of the Fremont factory into the heart of silicon valley in a car that has silently begun the auto industry revolution!!

jbunn | January 27, 2013

Tesla Girls is tempting, but like Hans, perhaps Red Barchetta for being topical. And making one want to drive fast. Very.

HansJ | January 27, 2013

"Are Friends Electric?" by Gary Numan.

kkiri7 | January 27, 2013

Mozart's Jupiter Symphony (#41) - it is music for the prophet on the mountain top, preaching to the masses below. The prophet who then descends to help lift the masses up to join him/her on the peak.

You will be Socrates,in Plato's 'Allegory of the Cave'. You will lead people, who believe that mere Shadows are reality, out of their caves into the Light. Once they have seen the light and experienced its Joy, they will return to other caves and lead those shadow-dwellers out to the light.

(Tesla, you may use this for your ads in exchange for a 2015 Model S)

kevinf311 | January 28, 2013

@kkiri7 Mozart's Jupiter made me think of another song to add to my playlist: Mars, The Bringer of War by Holst :D

cschock | March 5, 2013

I have my USB stick all set up for my delivery (by end of the month with any luck) and it contains the following:

Stupidly Happy - XTC
Make a Circuit with Me - The Polecats
Tesla Girls - OMD
Drive My Car [Mono Version] - The Beatles
That's the Way (I Like It) - Dead or Alive

Other songs I considered for the first playlist were:

Cars [Premier Mix] - Gary Numan and Tubeway Army
Silence, Sea and Sky - The Chameleons UK
Electricity - OMD
Drive - The Cars
Behind the Wheel - Depeche Mode
Hot You're Cool - General Public
I Get a Thrill - The Honeydrippers
What's on Your Mind (Pure Energy) - Information Society
The Modern World - The Jam
A Gallon of Gas - The Kinks
Good Life - OneRepublic
Drive Baby Drive - Shona Laing
Perfect - The The

Captain_Zap | March 5, 2013

How about "Highway Star" - Deep Purple?

Love Song by Tesla

andykeller | March 11, 2013

I never really gave this much thought myself, but I always read this thread because I like music and found it amusing.

Before I got my car, I made a smart playlist in itunes with every album that was rated 3 or higher and dragged those 3,736 songs to a USB stick.

My car was finally delivered and I just started near the beginning of the alphabet and picked songs quickly because I wanted to focus on the car. Here were the first few songs:

1: At the Drive-In / Relationship of Command / Arcarsenal
2: Black Sabbath / Black Sabbath / Black Sabbath
3: Frank Zappa / Hot Rats / Willie the Pimp

While not car themed, I'm not sure I could have done much better even if I had been planning for months.

Captain_Zap | April 29, 2013

Here is a couple more good candidates for a first song in a Model S.

Octane Twisted - Porcupine Tree

Lithium - Nirvana

Runar made a Spotify station with all the songs we mentioned called "Tesla Model S". Has anyone had good luck with streaming Spotify?

There is also a long thread at TMC with a list of first songs that people to planned to play upon delivery.

scoops | May 9, 2013

To really test the sound upgrade package it will have to be Frankie Goes To Hollywood's Welcome to the Pleasuredome.

Then chilling with the excellent Tea Street Band.

When I was in New York I was shown the voice command search for music, despite almost 10 attempts the car failed to understand my, understated, Scouse accent. Hope that will be fixed for European RHD deliveries!

Would be nice if Tesla can partner with Apple an offer iTunes Match.

Super Bad by James Brown | May 9, 2013

This song is loud, pounding and perfect for a 0-80 (no, not 60) acceleration and then manuvering quickly yet carefully through traffic while wearing a huge smile. If you have the upgraded sound, even better!

patrickclaerhout | May 9, 2013

As a definetly goodbye to ICE cars, I think of using CAN'T GET MY MOTOR TO START the openingstrack from Nick Mason's Fictitious Sports. Words and music by Carla Bley (who owns a record compagny named WATT WORKS -nomen est omen-). With phrases as "...lookin` under the hood never did any good ... the choke must be broke ... let's take the gasoline out ... try puttin' beer in the tank ..." and the Teslagrim on my face.

Brian H | May 9, 2013

Teslagrim? Sounds ominous.

J.T. | May 9, 2013

Like the Ferrari scene in Ferris Bueller: STAR WARS!

Electric-Avenue | May 9, 2013

Won't you take me to frunky town? (Z's wife's pun)

patrickclaerhout | May 10, 2013

Sorry, Brain H, should have been "grin". English in only my third language, so you can correct me whenever you want (and have nothing better to do ;-). But maybe I was thinking of Tesla as a fairy tale and I had my mind set on the Grimm Brothers.

Nantang | May 10, 2013

The Cult, "Electric Ocean"

Brian H | May 10, 2013

Yeah, I was joking.

Sung by Rihanna if anyone cares :P

"Magic Carpet Ride" by Steppenwolf

cfOH | July 27, 2013

So I pick up my car Monday. Thanks to the suggestions in this thread and some scouring of my MP3 library, I'll be taking an old 128MB (yes, MB) flash drive with a dozen tracks on it:

They Might Be Giants - Electric Car
Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark - Tesla Girls
Manic Street Preachers - Faster
Moby - Electricity
Kraftwerk - Autobahn (Peoples Car Mix)
Electric Light Orchestra - Don't Bring Me Down
Eddy Grant - Electric Avenue
Gary Numan - Cars
Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark - Electricity
Don Felder - Heavy Metal (Takin' a Ride)
My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult - Sex on Wheelz
Daft Punk - The Game Has Changed

J.T. | July 27, 2013

Changed my mind

"Bat out of Hell"

DigitalSavant | July 27, 2013

How about "It's a Beautiful Ride" by John C. Reilly?

Capriena | July 27, 2013

Electric car, on roads so dark
To change the end, rewrite the start
Electric car, so good, so far

Electric car, on verdant green
Invent a turn, invent a dream
Electric car, the new machine

Let's take a ride in an electric car
To the west side in an electric car
How can you deny an electric car?
Won't you take a ride with me?
Come on and take a ride with me

Electric car beside the tree
Will past the dock, will past the sea
Electric car, roll silently

Electric car on roads so dark
To change the end, rewrite the start
Electric car, so good, so far

Let's take a ride in an electric car
To the west side in an electric car
How can you deny an electric car?
Won't you take a ride with me?
Come on and take a ride with me

No diesel, steam or gasoline

Let's take a ride in an electric car
Happiness resides in an electric car
You can even drive an electric car
Won't you take a ride with me?
Come on and take a ride with me

Let's take a ride in an electric car
To the west side in an electric car
How can you deny an electric car?
Won't you take a ride with me?
Come on and take a ride with me

>>Sail, by AWOLNATION.

That was mine. :) Unfortunately Slacker found only the remix version and the car seems to recognize only about half my music on my iPod Shuffle, not including Sail. So I streamed it from my phone, but it wasn't quite the "play Sail by AWOLNATION" experience that I had imagined.
