Red Brake Calipers

Red Brake Calipers

Anyone considering having their brake calipers painted red? I like the look, but am unsure how to get it done....well.

It would look good. I've seen it done on a Porche in chrome yellow.

I have some paint I bought for my current car, but totally forgot to do it and I was scared to mess it up

Porsche brake caliper color is actually significant. Yellow calipers signify Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) which are ceramic rotors (see, for example,

Alex K - thanks for the info. I thought the owner had added the color, but clearly I'm wrong. It does look nice. A real stand-out with the color showing through the wheel hub.

Red signifies your brakes are on fire.

anodize them. permanent.

HansJ | January 22, 2013

Red signifies you are being manipulated by the Bembro marketing department. Why show off brakes on a car that is cool because it barely uses them?

olanmills | January 22, 2013

To each his own, but I really don't think it would be that cool. I don't mean to be insulting, but I think it's like when people put HID's on a police auction Crown Victoria.

I saw one with one of the Tesla pictures. If you look on Google and search Tesla and then pick images you can see it. It's very slick! I wanted done too! I think it will look really good on my dolphin gray with gray wheels.

It is currently a $500 limited production option from Tesla.

Go to and click on gallery and look at "project rosso" You can see red calipers there.

@Ohms.Law @Alex K Porsche does have standard red caliper for models with S designation and above. This has been the case for years from 911 to the newer models.

The coloured brake calliper position is like most things in the automotive world, one of personal tastes and preferences. Personally, I like coloured brake callipers but $500 for red only is a bit steep for the factory option unless it is a particularly high temperature resistant coating, be it baked enamel, ceramic paint or high temp powder coat. Given the choice I’d like to see various colour options so as to match or appropriately contrast the body colour. I’m tending to the blue body with the factory standard 19” wheels which are very “open” and hence display the callipers quite prominently. So, to me at least, blue coloured matching callipers would look very sharp

Thanks and Cheers

My car is due in Houston early to mid December. Last week I got a call from Tesla asking me if I wanted the brake calipers painted red. It was an additional $500 option. I asked if they were the same brakes (they are, just painted red). I decided that I could live without red painted brake calipers for $500. Seems like a lot.

I guess I can now relate, when my wife eyes those $500 high heels with the red soles. :P

Gizmotoy | November 19, 2013

I tried to get mine upgraded to red for a car not yet produced, but was told I had to take the whole $3500 upgrade package. I wonder how they're choosing who to call about upgrades :(

I understand that the price for red calipers will be raised January 1 to $650. But gunmetal Gray will remain $400 -- and brand-new Elon Purple will become a dealer-installed color option for $1125. Sources say all calipers will come Opti-Coat and Whiz-Wrap ready.

Reports also confirm that yellow calipers will be on-line next Spring as part of a $2700 Ceramic package that also includes matte-yellow piping on the seats, color-matched coffee mugs, and yellow logos on the trunk and wheel caps.

Probably the most exciting MY2014 brake option is 29-jewel Uranium calipers, available only to Colbert Platinum members in the LTD package. If you're not a Platinum member, you won't be able to read these encrypted upgrades, but they are simply mind-blowing:

Can I get the coffee mugs without paying for the whole upgrade package?

Bighorn | November 19, 2013

More importantly, does the coffee mug fit in the cup holder?

Brian H | November 19, 2013

Does it improve the coffee?
