Sunriver / Bend, OR charging

Sunriver / Bend, OR charging

Some searching appears to find a Nissan dealership and possibly an L2 charger by the golf course.
Otherwise a couple of L1 chargers (might as well plug in in the garage of the house we are renting).

I guess I'll be fine as long as I don't drive while we are there (a 110V/12A circuit recharges the S60 in 50h and we'll be there five days), but still, that's kind of a let down...

Are there any locals here who could point me to charging options I might have missed?

I would love to know the answer to this too, since SunRiver is an awesome place to visit / vacation.

Does the house you're renting have an electric dryer hookup? That could provide a faster overnight charge if you brought the right adapter and a long enough cable. :-)

This link shows seven RV parks in Bend, five have 50 amp connections. You might check if one of them would let you charge for a few hours.

dirkhh | July 17, 2013

@ghillair - you are a genius. Why didn't I think of RV parks? All I did was look at plugshare and blink and AAA and all the other EV charging sites. But an RV park might be the perfect answer. I can fully recharge in 6h on a 50A hookup!

Thank you. I'll contact the operators and find out if one would let a Tesla charge for a few hours. And I'll ask them for permission to list them here :-)

And on Plugshare.

Brian H | July 17, 2013

Talking to them, use "50-amp" term, not NEMA 14-50. They don't know/care from "NEMA".

Peter7, an EE member, rigged his own Multi-Input EVSE and used 2 14-50s simultaneously at numerous RV parks to draw 80A for his twin chargers. Hasn't followed thru on his promised schematics/plans yet, tho'.

dirkhh | July 17, 2013

@Brian H - Oh of course. I talked about a 50A RV Hookup :-)

And I don't have twin chargers nor have I paid for SuperCharger access for my S60, so 240V@40A is the best I'll be able to use, anyway.

I heard back from Deanna, the manager at Scandia RV Park. She says "if we have room, we don't mind letting EVs recharge. Please let your friends know, I know it can be difficult to find a place to do this in our area."

She also pointed out that they just charge for the electricity used, not for the site.

Just give them a call and find out if they have a free hookup.

Once I successfully charged I'll add them on plugshare. But I'm very happy to report here that Scandia RV Park is open to giving Tesla owners access to a 14-50.

ORWA | July 18, 2013

1000 trails
Is just south of sunriver/crosswater. They'll hit let you charge. I haven't checked. Dirk, when will you be in sunriver?

ORWA | July 18, 2013

Might let you charge.

dirkhh | July 18, 2013

I contacted 1000 trails and one other RV site as well, no responses so far.

Current plans have me in Sunriver Aug 20-25.

Brian H | July 18, 2013

Scandia hours?

dirkhh | July 18, 2013

@Brian H - Deanna didn't tell me their hours. She suggested that I call her the day before or the day I'm there.

I heard back from a second RV park and was basically told that they would happily rent a spot to me for $69 plus tax plus electricity used, but that they don't allow EVs to charge without renting a spot.

Thank you, Crown Villa RV, I won't be coming by any time soon.

There is a dearth of chargers in Bend.
The local resorts need some prodding.

ORWA | July 18, 2013

Sunriver resort or Caldera Springs should get on the ball. I will be over there in 10 days and will be asking management in both places about getting electrified.

May have just a seen you drive by on Abbot drive. Twice. Once when we were headed into the village and once coming back. We were in our ice suv. The car we saw was black.

My wife has an eye for these things, I would have never noticed.

wardrobelamppost | September 24, 2013

Dirk, did you go to an RV park to charge? I'm planning on using a dryer plug when I go there next week. If that doesn't work, I'll find something in the little village shopping center to plug into. There is a private school, Cascades Academy in Bend, that has an EV charger. (Eaton) But it is 25 miles from Sun River.

Tesla Charging Station at the Sunriver Grand Lodge!

I just drove my gas guzzler to Sunriver, because I didn't think there were any good options in Sunriver. Boy was I wrong. Imagine my surprise when I saw this in the parking lot across from my condo:

The good news is I will be able to charge from my condo next time. I don't know the rules about who can use it, but there is a 1-800 number if you are planning a trip.

Captain_Zap | August 15, 2014

I great place to check for new chargers is at TMC in the Pacific Northwest threads if you are in the area. People share trip routes too.

I read about this charger here:!!!

In addition to Sunriver, the Riverhouse in Bend just had their Tesla HPWCs go live yesterday I think.

Groeneweg | August 15, 2014

Charged there on the 7th of August. Thanks Sunriver ;)
