Delivery lead time

Delivery lead time

I placed my order in person on April 10th, the sales rep told me that lead time is about one month, i would have 2 weeks to change it and then it gets transmitted to the factory and i could no longer make changes. When i looked online it said that the order would be sent to the factory on 4/22 and "delivers in about one month." I therefore estimated that I would receive it on or around May 10th. I went back the other day to do a test drive (yes, I ordered it before doing a test drive) and while chatting in the car i was told that the one month starts after the order has been delivered to the factory. I am looking online again now and the status has been updated to say "delivers in about 2 months"

What has the experience of others been regarding lead time and how delivery compares to what they've been told? For info, I am ordering the 85Kwh performance in black.

Ya, the "1 month delivery" isn't really true. I was told the same.

It is really more like 2 months from your "order". I'm hearing about 4-5 weeks from the time your order is "submitted" to the factory and then 2-3 weeks for delivery. So about 2 to 2.5 months from order placement.

I finalized my order on 2/19. It got submitted to the factory on 3/1. It started to get built on 4/15. My delivery window is 4/26-5/10.

Not sure if mine was "normal" or not. Every time I called they seemed to be confused on why the factory wasn't actually building it since it was submitted back on 3/1. When I ordered, I was told 6-8 weeks. Looking more like 10-11 weeks.

I was told 1 month a handful of times but then it changed to 2 months. To me, 2-3 months seems more realistic. Ive ordered cars in the past from other auto makers and the soonest I received them was 2 months, some took up to 6 months from the time the dealer put my order in.

Just to illustrate how tough it can be, I'm looking at getting one of the cars that was "abandoned" and Tesla even has a hard time setting a date for when that could be delivered.

I finalized my non-performance 85 kWh Model S on March 22 and just got an email a few days ago that my delivery window is May 8-22. I agree, two months seems to be the window right now.

elguapo | April 17, 2013

I am the same timeline as @jason.archibald, but I ordered a 60kWh. Got delivery button last Monday with 5/8-5/22 timeframe. A couple of people on the forums say 30 days for P85 though, so it does seems to vary.

Stambouli - you might be able to call them and have them submit your order immediately to the factory, rather than wait until April 22. If you're sure about all the options you want and so on. Would save you a couple days.

Same here. I finalized non-perf 85kWh on 3/20 and got email saying 3-17 May delivery window.

I ordered my P85 fully loaded on 3/11/2013 and the car was delivered on 4/10/2013! awesome, amazing car. no problems whatsoever (with the car or delivery).

Impressive schedule considering the fact that you are getting a semi-custom car!

I gave Tesla a $5,000. unsecured, interest-free "loan/deposit" almost two years ago for my 40KW model S and I was told today that I could expect delivery in late May 2013. So stop complaining about one month or two for delivery.

" So stop complaining about one month or two for delivery."

I love how people who consciously decided to be early adopters for a product they knew wasn't shipping are literally TELLING other people what to do.

I'll say the same thing I said elsewhere: I was an early adopter for one of the first 1080P model projectors in the country. I waited as a result. That doesn't mean that I expect everyone should wait once they start shipping in volume.

It's the price you pay to be on the bleeding edge.

I'm almost embarrased to write this, but I finalized on March 3 and received the car in Pennsylvania on March 28. This was far better than I expected. The car has been great!

ian | April 19, 2013

Nice! Less than a month. When did you put your deposit down though?

stambouli | April 19, 2013

Who is complaining? I just asked a question and people are just sharing their experiences. I haven't read a single complaint about how long it takes.

My order for a performance model with performance plus package was "submitted to the factory" yesterday. I was told today that i could expect it to be delivered in 6-8 weeks.

bt77057 | April 19, 2013

I reserved, ordered, and finalized on March 13.
Slated to begin production April 22.
Scheduled to pickup at factory on April 29.
Scheduled to be the envy of all BMW driving co-workers on April 30.

lnxcar | April 19, 2013

@bt77057 : nice - I am 7 days after you so I guess I should get a specific date from them soon. How do you know the production date?

bt77057 | April 19, 2013

@wimcoekaerts: I got an email stating the following:

"I have some exciting news– your Model S is nearly complete! We expect Model S to be passed the Factory Gate between 4/26 and 5/10"

I also called and asked, and was told the car was expected to begin production on 4/22. I called and asked because I needed to schedule flights from Socal to SJC to pickup my car.

It's getting close...I'm cleaning out the garage this weekend.
