How did you choose your forum name, and what does it say about you?

How did you choose your forum name, and what does it say about you?

I've been wondering about some of the names people select to identify themselves on this forum, and wonder if anyone would be willing to say why they chose that name and what it might mean! Of course, most are just people's first or last names or initials, some associated with the word Tesla...

For example, shall we start with @Rheumboy? If you don't wish to say, I'll remove this question!

Some names I think were made up in a jiffy...a spontaneous selection of a quirky string of words that had their appeal. Nothing profound about them. Just interesting and sparking my curiosity.

Still missing @onionman, @warkovision, and @elephant in a bottle! And @Dark. They fly low, under the radar.

TeslaTap.com | June 25, 2014

Self promotion! Rather crass I know!

The TeslaTap name came about in trying to find a URL that worked. I must have gone through at least a 100 ideas before finding TeslaTap. Almost anything you can think of has already been taken! The "tap" sort of connects with the ability to tap on the Model S display screen.

Mathew98 | June 25, 2014

I was going with "What-N-Ahole" but it was one of the IDs @Rheumboy already had taken. ;P

That's what he gets for not showing up lately...

So I went with something unoriginal.

redacted | June 25, 2014

I took [redacted] after I discovered that my default handle was my email address. Ever since then the government has been putting my handle all over FOIA documents.

Ohms.Law | June 25, 2014

I really wanted to use a reference to electromagnetic induction, but I thought Faraday's Law was too obscure. Hence the more generic Ohms Law which still very much applies to the underlying principles of a Tesla.

AmpedRealtor | June 25, 2014

Mine was a result of a complete lack of creativity whatsoever.

renwo S alset | June 25, 2014

I kinda like Ginormous Balz, but haven't seen him lately.

Velo1 | June 25, 2014

Velo is French for bicycle, as I am an avid cyclist. 1 is for being the first, hence Velo1.

negarholger | June 25, 2014

after the inventor of electrical storage... that is what Tesla is all about.

Ohms.Law | June 25, 2014

@Kleist - good job!

IvanSanDiego | June 25, 2014

My names Ivan and I'm from San Diego lol

mrspaghetti | June 25, 2014

My forum handle reveals that I like Italian food (like, who doesn't?). If not for my fortunate ancestry of skinny people, my eating habits would have led me to morbid obesity.

BrassGuy | June 25, 2014

I first thought of TubaGuy, but that's too narrow so I had to widen the scope. I'm often using a French horn or trombone. I occasionally wonder how many think I'm referring to the alloy rather than the musical family.

Before I confirmed, I brought a sousaphone in a hard case to the service center to make sure it fit without putting the seats down. The tuba takes ths back seat. Frunk French horn., etc. I can get a lot of brass in the MS!

Captain_Zap | June 25, 2014

It's my spouse's name from the days before 2400 baud. He's an EE.

When ordering my car, we just used the first ID that came to mind that we'd remember. Not much thought went into it at that point. I never imagined that I would be participating in the forum.

AndyO | June 25, 2014

My forum name proves I'm not very creative. It's my nickname and last name initial. At least my nickname is not my legal first name. I just wanted to avoid my email or real name. (not very interesting but you asked)

lolachampcar | June 25, 2014

My old hobby and name of my web site.

Thomas N. | June 25, 2014

I don't know where I got mine. It just sort of appeared.

renwo S alset | June 25, 2014

It's a tribute to my Dagistani heritage and the brave Dagistani hordes (all three of them) that conquered Iceland.

romainiacWV | June 25, 2014

Last name is Romaine. Have used the nickname Romainiac for email and passwords since college, self created, but some of my friends refer to me as such. Usually attach a 66 after in homage to my childhood hero Mario Lemieux but for the Tesla handle I wanted to denote where I lived, West Virginia. Not the most progressive, or EV friendly state for sure but I'm proud to be one of the first owners in our state. (And it's only active participant on this forum unfortunately). Thank you Ohio club for adopting me for now. Nice question to post BTW. Feel a kinship to many of the handles on this board as they helped me along the buying process so much last summer. Nice to know more about some. Think @amped and I got our cars about the same time frame, interesting how many of the same issues we have had.

Dr. Bob Reinke | June 25, 2014

Under President Ike the military was cut back and I was offered a paid education at the university of my choice if I would resign my commission. Thanks to the US taxpayers, I earned my PhD in Physics and Thermodynamics. A farm boy when I entered the Army Air Corps, I worked hard for my degree. At my graduation, was the only time I saw my father's eyes tear. After that he always introduced me as: "This is my boy the Doctor--Ain't no MD, but he is my Doctor in everything else!" Dad had to quit school in the second grade to help on the farm and made sure none of his children had that burden. It was only logical to use my title and name for my e-mail and for my handle here and on other forums.

nkwazi | June 25, 2014

Zulu name for the fish eagle found in Southern Africa. Similar in looks to the bald eagle. I like birds and grew up over there

Iowa92x | June 25, 2014

I drive a turbo Saab 92x in Iowa.

contact | June 25, 2014

Is it normal to get blocked in this forum?

Thomas N. | June 25, 2014

Anxious to see how Waterboy, NickNikeTown and RichardThomas picked out their usernames. The cool thing is only one of them needs to respond.

Pettifogger.ca.us | June 25, 2014

I've used the same name in other forii, and it's sufficiently obscure to be not already in use. It refers to my (some would say) profession.

PBEndo | June 25, 2014

I am an Endodontist in Palm Beach County.

anodyne | June 25, 2014

My lifestyle falls under the adjective and my occupation is all about the noun (anesthesia).

an·o·dyne

adjective

not likely to provoke dissent or offense; inoffensive, often deliberately so.

noun

a painkilling drug or medicine.

karmamule | June 25, 2014

Back in the 80s I had to pick a name to use on Compuserve so combined my favorite color Blue with my one of my favorite games at the time, M.U.L.E. to come up with bluemule.

In the 90s as I joined a couple other sites, forums etc I found bluemule was sometimes taken, so instead I combined 'karma' due to my interest in Buddhism with the original mule to keep some continuity and I've been karmamule ever since.

GAGSTESLA | June 25, 2014

First, middle, and last name initial.= GAG, (my parents have a great sense of humor). Then of course the car.

Captain_Zap | June 25, 2014

@contact - No. Not normal.

NKYTA | June 25, 2014

NKYTA | AUGUST 31, 2013
I think this story is probably back on page 243 of these forums, but I'll repeat it for this most appropriate thread, thanks Cindy.

My wife convinced me that cars are female, like seagoing vessels. The she convinced me that they need names. She left the rest up to me.

This was basically a third of the cost of our home, so I took it somewhat seriously.

It's Telsa, Nikola Tesla. What is the female version of his name? Americanized? Hmm...a cool TV show that I watched had a bad-ass female agent, Nikita. There we go!

Unfortunately, after applying a couple times for common forms N1k1ta, NYk1ta, I got rejected by the CA DMV.

Back to the wife for help and she is NKYTA.

Grin! :-)

Bighorn | June 25, 2014

We live in the foothills of the Bighorn Mountains and in the town of the same name.

SeattleSid | June 25, 2014

I kept getting letters addressed to "Sid" and then I realized it was my name. Then I noticed I live near Seattle, and since I like alliteration I chose not to go with Mukilteo Sid. Which location fewer people would recognize anyway.

Rheumboy | June 25, 2014

I am a rheumatologist which is a sub speciality of internal medicine treating arthritis and other autoimmune diseases and I am of male gender. When not at work my sole purpose is to make you laugh cause there's just way too much anxiety and depression in this world.

The thought for the day: I asked my sister what the best way to get road side assistance and she said, just go braless! (Mathew98 has man boobs)

www.womenshealthmag.com/health/wear-clothes-without-a-bra

Sin_Gas | June 25, 2014

Several years ago, visited Argentina for a conference. I was warned not to drink the water--well there is only so much Malbec you can drink. So when ordering water, they would always ask "Sin Gas"? This was spanish for "No Gas". Since driving an EV is without gas, thought it was appropriate. I also call my car Sin Gas.

Sin_Gas

sbeggs | June 25, 2014

@Rheumboy, that makes perfect sense! Thanks.

NKYTA | June 25, 2014

Ah, I knew it! The boy was just a smokescreen for your off the wall humor. :-)

@Rheumboy +10; I've been on Enbrel for 10+ years and have nothing but positive's to report.
Golfing Saturday. 10 years ago I was getting out of bed using my elbows.

Who knew you were more than a wit+.

Cheers!
Grin :-)

Ma Tes | June 25, 2014

Like many, I became increasingly fascinated with the car and the technology. My wife, as always, tolerated my newest obsession as I read and read and finally took a test drive.

I agonized over the purchase before I ordered and arranged a loaner with the understanding that I would cancel if she did not like the seats or the ride. To my pleasant surprise, she loved the car and asked every day, "where's my Tesla" until we took delivery last week.

I was absolutely delighted with her enthusiasm and it became clear that My Tes was no longer going to be mine but rather hers.

Perhaps in a couple years, Pa will get another Tes for himself.

Off ICE | June 25, 2014

Well Off-ICE is self explanatory, but I am Canadian so there is a bit of a hockey reference in there too. Judo is my real sport of choice but had I referenced it, my name would have been "Need-Ice" and then I would be hated on.

Captain_Zap | June 25, 2014

Note to self: Stop complaining about stiff fingers and underwires.

Rheumboy | June 25, 2014

@NKYTA

See, you and Phil Mickelson have something in common. I bet you both have the same handicap too.

Congrats!!!!!!

SilentRunning | June 25, 2014

Selected with my favorite MS feature in mind - silent acceleration up long steep roads - which we have a lot of around here. I don't miss the gearing down of the automatic transmission and all the extra noise of the higher rpms as I'd try to get our ICE SUV to accelerate up a steep hill. It's my favorite thing to show passengers on a test ride!! Also drawing from the 1976 SciFi movie of the same name.

RedShift | June 25, 2014

Redshift

Measurement of how fast a star is moving away. Well, you'll see my lights all the time, the way I drive, and they happen to be red as well!

NomoDinos | June 25, 2014

As you'd expect, only I also had a boss when I was in training who would yell "No mo Whinos!" when he thought we were complaining about something. It is partially an homage to him :)

Anodyne - Hahaha! I'm glad to hear that explanation. I had assumed that it was some kind of off-color reference to the Model S having so much power that it was coming out of it's butt (Ano + dyne). Either that, or breaking such mighty wind (with the aerodynamics) that you would need a Dynamometer of the anus to measure it.

Yeah, I know. Sorry.

Red Sage ca us | June 25, 2014

Short Story, Long...

I have always been an artist, since I was a little kid. In addition to my longtime love of cars, I have always enjoyed animation and comic books as well. So, I came across an issue of The AVENGERS a long time ago, that had a giant robot on the cover. Did I mention I love giant robots, videogames, and computers? Anyway... They had misspelled his name as 'RED RONAN' on that cover, but he was actually 'RED RONIN'. I liked the name a lot.

You see, my favorite color is RED. Most people find my first name unpronounceable. So they call be RON. You are very likely to see... RON-IN-RED... So I thought it was fine to adopt the name RED RONIN as a description of myself.

Some years afterward, I read a really good science fiction book called, 'The Cybernetic Samurai' by Victor Milan. So my nickname expanded to become RED RONIN, THE CYBERNETIC SAMURAI. I used that online for many, many years.

During that time, I wrote for a videogame website called, 'Secrets of the Sega Sages'. I loved that 'SEGA SAGES' formed a palyndrome, reading the same thing forward and backward. Years later, when I mentioned that to the site's owner, he said it wasn't done on purpose, purely accidental. Anyway, after he sold the site to a major portal, some fellow staff members and I started another called X-SAGES.

About this time it became apparent that far too many people on the internet were calling themselves 'RED RONIN', when obviously, I was the only REAL ONE... So I took to using the name REDXSAGE at first and eventually migrated to RED SAGE. Very few pretenders since then. ;-)

david.baird | June 26, 2014

Once a month I turn into a human being...

windex | June 26, 2014

Signal to noise ratio.

Try searching the internet for windex.

EssDub | June 26, 2014

Phonetic spelling of my initials, save that "dub" is a lot easier to type and is much catchier than "double you"

Fun thread!

BiffandSully | June 26, 2014

Biff and Sully are the construction workers from Sesame Street. Figured it was obscure and one or two people would get the reference but it has nothing to do with Tesla. A child of the 70s, I appreciate Sesame Street especially compared to the high paced, fast talking, action oriented stuff my boys favor (Lego Chima? Ugh.)

Kutu | June 26, 2014

My nickname, Rusty, was given to me by my father the first time he saw me. Kutu is Swahili for Rusty.

Mathew98 | June 26, 2014

@Rheumboy - I have a patent pending for my line of "Bros" to support man boobs. They are made of carbon fibre material which will hug your top heavy physique snugly while providing massive support. I'll send a sample to you to help cope with your manhood.

Wait, there is more. The light weight and ultra strong Bro will also help you tuck those puppies in during golf outings and you can whack those balls across the ponds and out of the sand traps.

What size would you like to receive? Would 58 DD be big enough for ya?

Sorry ladies, this product is specially designed for the big boys with puppies issues. Healthy nuts with six pack abs need not inquire!
