Invitation to Configure

Invitation to Configure

For those of you keeping track, I got my email today.

Res# RN318184

or

14,363

This happened a little quicker than I thought.

Norbert.Vienna | January 24, 2013

if you look at the jobs section on the page they are working or working soon in 3 shifts
since they open the European market and the first people got there
e-mails and also first delivery windows
they do well in there way of ramping up

Nexxus | January 24, 2013

Any 40 kWH cofigurations been asked to configure yet? They (TM) maybe going trough all the reservations to get the 85 and 60 kWH cofigs batched and the majority of the remainders on the list are the 40 kWH cofigs.

This could be the reason there is a big gap between the numbers asked to configure and why some of the earlier reservation numbers haven't been asked yet.

Djeckert17 | January 24, 2013

Configuration e-mail 1/24
Reserved on 12/24
Reservation #16,676

95% sure going with S85 Brown, Obeche matte, tan leather, air suspension, sound, pano roof, no-tech...

Happened much faster than expected. Was told by CS that b/c I'm going with S85, can expect delivery by around March sue to how they're batching orders. Sweet!

kkiri7 | January 25, 2013

Hi,

I am res # 17035 and I got my invitation - came last night, I think - I reserved the car on Dec 28th
Recently decided against my original Performance model with all the trimmings as I couldn't justify 105k+ when I still had to keep another comfy car handy while my beloved Tesla was being worked on for the expected teething problems of an infant.

Not sure how the change to a 60kW with minimal trimmings will affect the delivery date.

Brian H | January 25, 2013

Since you had no real delivery date before, it can't affect it. This will be your first "firm" date.

DC@Tesla | January 25, 2013

It may be that the more people they finalize the better numbers they can show at the next call. Now I just gave to figure out whether to go for the 85 or 60.

PenFed was a great suggestion.

Solution | January 25, 2013

Yup. #16780 and got the FINALIZE button last night at 19:38. All set and awaiting paperwork. It definitely came quickly. We reserved 12-26.

gibren | January 25, 2013

I have # 18,515 and waiting to finalize an 85'er. Can't wait, but the numbers to finalize are whizzing by very quickly at this point . It looks like they are offering to finalize 1000 cars every 3 days! It seems that a lot of folks are waiting to finalize even when they are offered the chance to configure. Good things come to those who wait! Enjoy.

rlpm | January 25, 2013

@gibren - if Tesla has enough finalized orders at the end of January to keep the production line busy, they might wait a few weeks before inviting US/Cdn customers who reserved in 2013 to finalize. This would give Tesla time to build cars for European (LHD) Signature customers, then those 2012 reservation holders who finalized red/40/spring options, then European (LHD) Production customers who reserved in 2012. But that's just conjecture. Maybe they've (r)amped up production to a large number of cars per week and can bring the wait time all the way down for everyone (except RHD, sorry UK/AS/NZ/HK/JP friends!).

gibren | January 26, 2013

rlpm, I hope that is not the case, but will see. Thanks

jat | January 26, 2013

As has already been mentioned, when they announced the price increase they said that everyone who reserved under the old pricing would be asked to configure no later than February and would keep the old pricing if they finalize the order shortly after getting the invitation.

They have also said they expect to finish out everyone who reserved in 2012 by summer.

So, I doubt even those getting configure emails will get their car that much earlier (though it is possible if there are lots of 40kWh orders, people getting 60's with air suspension and not red might get in March if those are delayed any more.

gibren | January 27, 2013

If you have received an invite to configure recently, please list it here. Thanks.
I am #18,515 and want to see how close I am getting to configuration time.

David4060 | January 27, 2013

On 1/21, I finalized a 40kWh with standard suspension in Red and received a delivery window of May-June. There may be a large backlog of orders in Red.

David4060 | January 27, 2013

Oh yeah, I'm 15,119.

kkiri7 | January 27, 2013

Hi,
Those Resn #s sure are moving fast, although I think my car will probably not be ready until summer.

I think Tesla is doing the right thing, business-wise. Get all the orders confirmed and optimize their production process.

Saves them on costs, possibly improves quality by building many of the same configuration, and helps with their bottom line.

Hopefully this will make the company profitable sooner and we will have a great electric car company for decades to come.

David15 | January 27, 2013

@Gibren: I'm Res# 17328 and got my invitation to configure 9 days ago on Jan 16th.

Test drive is scheduled for 2013-01-28 in Bellevue, WA.
I hope there's not much traffic.

gibren | January 28, 2013

David 15, that was quick for your configuration. I saw the 15000's were being invited back then, but not 17000's. I wonder if any other 17000's invited to configure yet?

dockt | January 28, 2013

Yeah, that is weird. I saw #17,015 got his invite on the 24th, but #17,328 got it 5 days before that and a bunch of others in the 16,000's? Kind of good for me either way (#17,5xx) :).

Big Tex | January 28, 2013

17,402 and haven't heard anything YET- but it's not for lack checking...

@Gibren,

As to your query about the 17,000s, I had posted earlier that my Res #17035 received a configure email on Jan 24th night (was reserved Dec 28th)

Hope this helps.

hsadler | January 28, 2013

sorry...

expecting April/May

cb9 | January 28, 2013

@david15 - when did you reserve?

I reserved on the 30th and am 17295, so looks like I got missed. I received one note from Tesla so I don't think their emails are going into spam folder... :(

kingkoti | January 28, 2013

Big Tex | January 28, 2013

Brain- I hear BC is nice the time of year you're getting yours- I'm planning my trip.

David15 | January 28, 2013

@cb9: Reserved Dec 30, also. Must have been a few minutes after you. Congrats. Glad you got your invitation to configure. I'll give you a thumbs up when I see you on the road.

@gibren

#17,320
Reserved - 12/30
Invitation to Configure email - today! 1/28

As dockt pointed out, there doesn't seem to be any numerical sequence. I wonder if saved designs has anything to do with it. I was bouncing around a 60 to 85.

Other possibilities are location...Westchester county, NY store reservation. Live in CT.

What did other people have saved?

gibren | January 28, 2013

Congrats on all those invites to configure! Looks like yours is coming soon Big Tex. Let us know. I reserved on Jan.21 and got #18,515, so just waiting to see what happens.

Amped | January 28, 2013

Big Tex, I'm in the same boat. 17516

LK | January 28, 2013

I do believe it's due to the battery choice and possible multiple runs of the same type of car. This is good news everyone. Maybe we should start a thread, or rename this one?

gibren | January 29, 2013

Anyone today with configuration invites?

dockt | January 29, 2013

#17,527 and just got the invitation to configure a minute ago, 2:25pm EST.

Big Tex | January 29, 2013

#17,402- Got mine 11:23am PST. MyTesla page looks mighty fine with the "Finalize" button.

garcilamd | January 29, 2013

Amped | January 29, 2013

17516 invitation to config
To go with Tech, or not!? it's my only second though

GunnarB | January 29, 2013

tech - yes!

defmonk | January 29, 2013

17, 955...my time is coming soon!

jeffaa | January 29, 2013

17,744, received my email a couple hours ago.
I understand what the twin chargers are, but what is the high power wall connector? Does the car not come with a connector?

gibren | January 29, 2013

tech, def. have to go with the Tech package with all those goodies. Jeffaa, the car comes with a portable connector, but the high power wall connector is a charger that attaches to the wall of your garage and can give you up to 61 miles of charge per hour when you use it, with optional dual chargers. The portable connector may give you half that amount and is meant to be kept in the car for travel.

Congrats on your invite to configure. I am waiting at #18,515.

BYT | January 29, 2013

I just received my 2nd invitation to configure this past weekend, order placed right before the New Year!!

I am 17,213 and this time around going with:

Black Solid Paint
All Glass Panoramic Roof
19" Wheels
Tan Leather Interior (May Change)
Piano Black Décor (May Change)
60 kWh Battery
Active Air Suspension
Supercharging

Some interior color options may change as indicated above! :)

gibren | January 29, 2013

BYT, I like that tan on black combo. But black on black is nice too. Good luck with that one :), but glad you can configure!

BYT | January 29, 2013

Thanks gibren!

I already have my Model S, I'm ordering this second one for my folks, I love my Signature, went Pearl White with Black Interior, Dark Rim's, Spoiler, Pano Roof an it's a P85. She's so sexy, my wife is jealous of her... ;)

gibren | January 29, 2013

I also just calculated that Tesla has invited at least 3000 people to configure their Model S's in just two weeks. That is quick. Make of it what you will.
