Now off to make some choices... P779
It's definitely more than 2-3 months early. I received my my email August and am told Dec delivery. I'd say 4 months early is more like it.
Exciting! With P9045, it looks like a January (?) email and an April (?) delivery for me! Go Tesla!
#5945. Got my "Time to Build" email Oct 1. Estimated Delivery is Jan/Feb.
Ordered Grey 85 kwh Performance with Pano, Tech and 21" silver rims
So with P7214, does Feb March sound about right for delivery, based on P5945 estimates, and all the above data? I keep checking for my time to build email. My excitement has spread to friends and relatives coast to coast.
Well, I'm a bit more cautious on the "time to build email" acceleration that appears to be happening. With the recent 5k production miss announced and the subsequent reduction in revenue targets, doesn't it seem odd that they'd now choose to accelerate the contract lock ins with customers that are are as could be as far out as April or May?
There is always a chance Tesla has fixed whatever was slowing them down and now they can step it up several notches but the pessimist in me says they are trying to lock in revenue to make up for delayed production targets. I do believe there is some sort of down payment required upon signing the documents? If not, then of course my pessimism is unfounded and I retract.
No down payment that I know of.
Just got my email today. P6447. Any thoughts about when mine might be delivered? I was originally estimating March but not sure now.
To me that sounds that whatever the delay was it is now fixed, or to be more precise has been fixed some time ago, and they are now ramping up the production. The 5000 target can't be achieved this year simply because it is already beginning of October. If you make something like 4500 cars in just three months it would mean 18000 cars next year which in turn would mean that they would already be nearly at desired max speed, and no ramping is being done anymore.
They are proceeding as planned, just with initial delay, probably like Elon said "stupid little" outsourced things that cause unexpected production delay.
Tesla recognizes revenue only on delivery (I think you can check the last SEC filling related to the stock offering). One can also question the present cash position (for configured cars, $10k are not refundable) but that is a non-issue either, they just got $195M from the last stock offering.
There are more possible reasons for locking in configs than some vigorous ramp-up. It could be that there are many cancelations and not enough 85kWh orders and they need visibility. Many other reasons can hide behind that but there is no point to speculate further without any hard data.
No email yet but P7097 has a finalize button in my garage. Says Feb-Mar delivery.
I am 7065 and my finalize button just appeared also.
TIme for a SWAG.
Based on the SEC filing and taking it at face value, we are looking at c. 3500 cars by end of year, being buit at 400 per week.
Assuming some of the cancellations are Sigs, SSLs, Rs and low Ps, and assuming minimal lag between build and delivery, then by End Dec TM should be delivering approx car # P2000.
Allowing for other cancelations and rounding errors we get something like:
End Jan: P3800
End Feb: P5600
End Mar: P7400
End Apr: P9200
TM reps have been quoted as saying TM is still trying to build 5000 cars by year end, so your guess is as good as mine.
The most obvious reason for locking in configs early is for JIT delivery of parts. I would much rather be giving my outsourced component supplier a 3 month lead time than 2 weeks!
Thanks for the discussion and counter points.
Of the supplied reasons for acceleration:
1) trying to get more revenue
2) trying to give suppliers more lead time
3) they are ramping to a 20k/year rate faster now that they've fixed w/e it was
4) there are a lot less 85kWh reservations than they thought
5) there are a lot of cancellations
I hope for 2, 3, and 4. Would be nice to get a "state of the Model S" blog entry soon.
4) there are a lot less 85kWh reservations than they thought
if that is true will my car get produced faster P6997 85kwh?
P6883 just got my finalize email today Oct 3 at 12:05pm Eastern time. Finalize button is now also there.
P6508, just received my finalize email today Oct 3rd. So excited!
6629 and I just finalized my order! Apparently they are looking to batch as efficiently as possible by taking all these final orders today.

P6588 and I just got my email at 12:06pm Eastern Time.
P6918 got my email today at 12:05 Eastern Time.
The official projections (ramp-down of the ramp-up, etc.) are SEC-conservative. I think there may be a fair chance they will be exceeded. It's starting to look that way.
6484 got email today and I ordered! Feb/mar delivery estimate
P6719 Got my email this morning at 10:07am MNT! Feb/Mar delivery estimate!!!!! WOOOO HOOO!!!! Celebrated by taking a test drive!
Just received my time to finalize notice. P7304.
Just got mine too. But I'm deferring it.

Just got my notice it's time to build....
Holy Cow!
I am so psyched!
Help- get the armor or not to get the armor?! Any one have it on a white or pearl S? Does it ruin the look of the white cars?
I am still guessing March for delivery.
@mitrabbit - armor on white has been discussed elsewhere on this forum (can't find it right now), but general consensus is a no-no. I'm not getting it on my Pearl White, and there's even a recommendation from TM somewhere on the forum to avoid it. You can always get it done afterwards by a 3rd party if you decide you really want it.
Wow, already sending emails at least as high as P7721! At this rate I may get mine next month - #10,888

mitrabbit: décor accents?
"It's Time to Build Your Model S" #7351 came today. I cant remember the last time I was this excited by an email, if ever.
Got my "time to build" e-mail 9:29 am (Pacific time) on Oct 4. Will do the paperwork at the local store tomorrow. Very surprised and excited about this e-mail. #7660
Thanks Longhorn92
Did forget decor accents which is piano black
Got wife's approval on configuration and now need to understand if I need to order twin chargers now or can they be added later as needed.
Open to ideas. I will be either driving 30-50 miles a day, or taking 100 to 3000 mile trips on occasion. Then I am thinking SC stations. And my home has solar to offset my night charging with solar credit back to the grid during the day.
Hope these thoughts/ questions are not to far OT.
Finalize tomorrow at the Menlo Park show room.
Rabbit: only reasons for dual chargers is if you plan on using the high power charger and for resale value.
Since what you've said indicates you won't be using the high charger (which is NOT the supercharger network), I'm leaning towards a no on dual charging.
@Vawlkus: only reasons for dual chargers is if you plan on using the high power charger and for resale value.
Not precisely true. You can also benefit from the occasional j1772 charger out there that is > 40 amps if you have dual chargers. There aren't many (yet), but they do exist. And I'm thinking there will be more hotels with chargers as time goes by, which will possibly have high enough amperage to justify the dual chargers. And on multi-day road trips, even with superchargers available at intermediate points I'm assuming I'd be charging overnight at hotels.
Sorry, that should have said "higher power chargers". I couldn't remember which chargers would require the duals and which wouldn't. :P
Glad the rate is ramping up -- at this rate, I should get my notice (P9358) within a month :).
Regarding the dual chargers, I plan to get them even if I don't expect to use more than 40A normally -- I want the option, particularly when travelling, and the cost isn't much compared to everything else.
bump. Seems like an awful lot of people have received this notice in the last week or so. anyone later than #7721?
