"P one"...enter and sign in please!

I've been watching these boards for years now, but don't recall ever seeing
posts from "P's" in the teens.

Now that all the Signatures are almost out the door, I'm anxiously awaiting that
milestone of "P" deliveries. Since I'm P 153, any news of a delivered "P" means
my car is soon to come.

So far... no news at all on "P's". Any low number "P's" received a delivery window yet?

Hoping for an end of the year surprise!

DeborahS | November 17, 2012

I too am anxiously awaiting news from low "P's". I am hoping they are in production and ready cars are just sitting in the Fremont plant parking lot waiting for all of the Sigs to be delivered. I am P497.

William9 | November 17, 2012

I'm P-83 and received a "window" in early October, only to have it rescinded as an error. I've been in touch weekly and can get nothing other than, "It won't be long now." I feel like a 5 year old in the backseat of a car on a long trip, and keep getting fed that line.

Michael23 | November 17, 2012

427 with you guys. Told a week until my next contact. Hoping they can finish the sigs so we can get some info as I'm assuming they won't tell us anything til sigs are happy.

Mike_ModelS_P457 | November 17, 2012

P457 here... Told by end of year, but that is all.

stephen.kamichik | November 18, 2012

Canadian P157. Still waiting for Canadian certification.

electricblue0303 | November 18, 2012

P367 - I've been told that I should hear at the end of this month for a delivery window and VIN.

Volker.Berlin | November 18, 2012

P3 here -- but Europe. Still a couple months to go... :-/

DouglasR | November 18, 2012

@Michael23 +1

GB was adamant that no production cars would be delivered until all the Sigs are done. A couple of production cars were given delivery windows and VINs; I suspect that it caused such an uproar that they decided not to do that again until all the Sigs are at least being shipped. However, there is considerable evidence that lots of production cars are now being built. Thus I predict that we will see a large wave of notifications shortly.

Michael23 | November 18, 2012

Yup I guess they are being extra careful, but I'm hoping the notice isn't still 4 weeks prior. I want one week notice with accurate date to pick up at factory.

jerry3 | November 18, 2012

In some cases the notice has been only one day (as in "Can you take delivery tomorrow"). I wouldn't worry about the four week notice until Tesla gets it's process down pat--maybe three or six months from now.

Steve_P445 | November 19, 2012

P445 here. I ordered the car 8/23 and haven't heard anything else yet other than "The factory is building your Model S...". Based on the forum posts, I'm anticipating that Tesla will contact me with my VIN and to make financing/payment arrangements by end of this month. I'm hoping for a late December delivery.

David M. | November 19, 2012

Steve_P445 - If Tesla is producing close to 400 cars / week by the end of November, I don't know why your delivery would be as late as late December. I would be thinking early December, especially if you are getting the 85kWh battery.

Schlermie | November 19, 2012

Supposedly, R96 received a delivery window of December 7 - 15.

Brian H | November 19, 2012

That does seem to be the ineluctable logic! This "fast ramp" stuff is exciting! :D

electricblue0303 | November 19, 2012

Brian and David - I guess it depends on how long it takes to deliver the vehicles.

Jerry3 - I need more than a 1 day notice due to the loan processing - I would need about a 1 week notice.

Sudre_ | November 19, 2012

I think the notice thing might start being a problem once Tesla gets to the P's. Most people don't have 70+K just sitting around as play money. Most people also just can't skip work at a whim and go take care of a loan for a car.

DouglasR | November 19, 2012

It could be a particular problem because of the tax issue. I'm retired, so I need to be sure I will owe enough taxes in the delivery year to take advantage of the tax credit. This means, for example, realizing capital gains from stock sales in the appropriate year. That can get tricky if I hear on December 28 that the car will be delivered sometime between December 30 and January 3.

On the other hand, I guess I could always defer the delivery for a few days so that it definitely occurs in 2013. Of course, the capital gains tax rate likely to go up in 2013 . . .

Brian H | November 19, 2012

"But, boss!", he sniveled. "I need the money for my Model S!"

"Oh, OK, crybaby, go and sign your life away. You're obviously going to be useless here today anyway. But don't expect a raise to cover your butt when you run out of money!"

"Oh, thank you Mr. Scrooge! I'll be in early tomorrow, I promise!"

edcalis | November 19, 2012

Man, with a number like 12,361, I feel like I do not have a chance to drive one of those amazing cars in my lifetime. I guess I need to enjoy my Volt, meanwhile.

strider | November 19, 2012

Remember there are ~450 "R" cars ahead of the P's and none of us have heard anything either. I understand Tesla not wanting to upset Sigs by shipping R/P's ahead of some Sigs but at the end of the day Tesla needs cash and stockpiling R/P cars to wait for Sig deliveries will be leaving millions of dollars on the table. If I were Tesla I'd bribe the last few Sigs with free service or something and start delivering R/P cars as soon as they're ready. Tesla needs to deliver as many cars as possible by 12/31 in order to bank the cash and report good numbers to Wall Street.

William9 | November 19, 2012

DouglasR | November 19, 2012

I really doubt that they are standing around while the R/P cars pile up on the factory floor. I suspect they are using all available manpower to get the Sigs delivered. They are just not telling us that our cars are nearing completion. We will get shorter notice of delivery (not 30 days), rather than delayed delivery. That's my guess anyway.

Scorch | November 19, 2012

I am p446, I received this email on Nov 12th:

"We are finishing up Signature Model S in the next couple weeks and will then start General Production. Given your sequence number, we are planning for delivery before the end of this year. Once your car enters production, we will then be able to communicate information like the VIN and about 2-4 weeks before delivery, you will be contacted by your Delivery Experience specialist to start coordinating your Tesla Personal Delivery."

The problem is 2-4 weeks and the end of the year are getting really close...

DouglasR | November 19, 2012

That's very interesting. I'm #P983 and got no such email (they did give me a window when I asked, but I don't hold much stock in it). I wonder whether other low Ps got that email? I assume you have the 85kwh battery and Active Air?

DeborahS | November 19, 2012

No email for me either.
Active air

mrspaghetti | November 19, 2012

@DouglasR & DeborahS

Are you saying you haven't finalized your designs yet?

Brian H | November 19, 2012

Obviously they expect to compress the wait time somewhat as they do their P-ramp, so to speak. So it could be that you will get less notice than "usual". Just a WAG, for what it's worth. Definitely not a SWAG (Scientific Wild-Ass Guess). ;)

DeborahS | November 19, 2012

Deposit 4/11 /09
Finalized design 8/2/12
No communication from Tesla since.
Hope you are right about your WAG.

DouglasR | November 19, 2012

I finalized in August. What makes you think we didn't finalize yet?

mrspaghetti | November 19, 2012

Got mixed up as to which thread I was on. Was thinking you hadn't yet gotten your "Time To Build" email!

In any case, the email Scorch posted looks pretty generic. I wouldn't sweat not getting it.

DouglasR | November 19, 2012

Not sweating, but it would be interesting if it turned out that, say, the Rs and first 500 Ps got that email, and later Ps did not. I have felt for some time that my car (P983) will come pretty close to Jan. 1, give or take.

mrspaghetti | November 19, 2012

Remind me - are the Rs part of the same reservation number pool as the Ps? Or are P100 and R100 two different res numbers?

William9 | November 19, 2012

This whole thing is becoming a joke! I'm P-83 and have heard absolutely nothing, outside of an 10/29 - 11/10 window, subsequently rescinded. I"m sorry but this is becoming very bush. It would take one $20K newbie to keep those of us informed who have made a commitment for coming up on four frigging years! Sorry, but I'm not at all happy.

DouglasR | November 19, 2012

Two different numbers in the reservation sequence; no distinction in the VIN.

Also, they say they will be producing the Canadian Sigs this year. So after all the U.S. Sigs are out, there will be some 600 cars built before they start with the Ps (less cancellations). That's around 1600 before they get to me, which is four weeks at full production. And don't forget, delivery takes another week or two.

So I'm hoping to get it before the end of the year, but I'm not counting on it.

steven.maes | November 20, 2012

Would they be making the 500 European Sig's before or after the American P's ?

Volker.Berlin | November 20, 2012

steven.maes, yes that's what they say (due to the special Sig Red color).

steven.maes | November 20, 2012

So that must be the reason why the present P's are not yet been produced. They are finishing all sig's worldwide before they start with the domestic P's.

Volker.Berlin | November 20, 2012

If true, there would be an interesting chain of dependencies:
domestic P production
<- international Sig production
<- international Sig finalization ("Time to Build")
<- international Options & Pricing (announced for "still this year") | November 20, 2012

That makes complete sense. They need to finish up all the Signature Red paint jobs so that they can switch that paint boot to one for the new Sunset Red color.

andvib | November 20, 2012

At the Oslo store yesterday,with a very nice,black model s on display,the Tesla rep said;
EU-pricing will be announced first week of Dec
EU Sig production will start late March 13
All colors, not just the US Sig ones, will be available to EU Sigs from start

Based on the above, a lot of US Ps will be produced prior to EU Sigs.

btw the fit and finish of this production model was miles ahead of previous beta versions.

steven.maes | November 20, 2012

Andvib, Thanks for that information. That means that the European P's can come directly after the Sig's. By that time, the Sig's will be ready in a couple of weeks. So the P's should be ready around end of April ?

Volker.Berlin | November 20, 2012

That makes complete sense. They need to finish up all the Signature Red paint jobs so that they can switch that paint boot to one for the new Sunset Red color. (TeslaRumors)

Well, yes and no. They could very well start producing (domestic) P cars while still building (international) Sig cars -- just not the Sunset Red ones. All other colors could be produced no problem.

[...] a lot of US Ps will be produced prior to EU Sigs. (andvib)

Given the above, there's no contradiction.

All colors, not just the US Sig ones, will be available to EU Sigs from start (andvib)

...except for Sunset Red, presumably.

cerjor | November 20, 2012

When they start producing 400 cars per week, will they have enough delivery specialists to do their job?

Ron5 | November 20, 2012

The US Rs and Ps will begin (have already begun being produced) long before the European Sigs. The only thing that is waiting for the European (and other locale's) Sigs is the Sunset Red paint, which will go on line after ALL of the Sigs are done.

Scorch | November 20, 2012

@DouglasR I emailed Tesla asking for an update, that email did not come unsolicited.

Jewsh | November 20, 2012

P352, also waiting for comfirmation that Transport Canada has certified the sale of the Model S here. I hear certification is nearly at hand, though.

That said I don't think I will receive my car before March, 2013.

DouglasR | November 20, 2012

OK, in that case it was not much different from what I have been told, after inquiring: possibly before the end of the month, very likely before the end of the year, VIN and more info to come very shortly.

However, until we see a large batch of unsolicited notifications going out to the Rs and low Ps, I don't have a lot of confidence in these responses. Indeed, I will need to see a VIN and the delivery questionnaire before I start counting my chickens.

stephen.kamichik | November 20, 2012

@Jewsh........Canada P157.....I am also hoping for Canadian certification soon. I am hoping to receive my model S in late Q1 or early Q2 of 2013. Two weeks ago GB emailed me that certification would be "soon".

AaronX | November 20, 2012

I'm R120. 60kw, Air Suspension, Grey w/black leather. No communication (other than about supercharging) since I signed the paperwork on July 25th.
