Will the battery make this Holiday Trip?

Will the battery make this Holiday Trip?

I am traveling to the airport which is 35 miles away, so that will be 70 miles there and back.
The kicker is that I am going to (for the first time) charge my Tesla Model S to the max which will be 300 miles, but my car will be stationary for 11 nights until I get back to the airport. From my experimenting at home, it appears that I loose about 8 miles when the car is not charged over night, but I can't confirm how accurate that is...

Does anyone else have a good estimate as to how much millage will be lost for every 24 hours the car is left stationary?
Thank you

Do you have the 4.0 software or not?

Eman | December 22, 2012

No, I don't...unless I get it tonight. I would like to have that "sleep mode".

Even with the Sleep mode (if that's what you were getting at when asking about the OS) what is the amount of miles lost with sleep mode or without it over 24 hours of being stationary???

DouglasR | December 22, 2012

Sleep mode is supposed to reduce the loss by about 8 miles per day. It probably wouldn't leave you with zero loss, but it would certainly improve things.

Your airport doesn't have an electrical car charging station?

Eman | December 22, 2012

I charged it to max and it says 261 miles right now. I need 70 miles for driving back and forth, so that gives me

191/ 11 days stationary = about 17 miles per 24 hour day when parked. Does this sound accurate to anyone out there following this?

I don't want to get back from my trip without enough miles to get home.
Thanks for the reply's.

No, the airport doesn't have a charging station.

I really just looking for the math of how many miles I am going to loose over a 24 hour period when the car is stationary or a good estimate.

Yeah you should be fine. Is it cold where you're at?

Eman | December 22, 2012

Yes, kinda cold up here in the winter, North East area.
I'm gonna go for it unless someone here suggests otherwise.

I believe you should be ok based on what people have posted, though it wouldn't even be a worry if you had the 4.0 software.

I'm not sure how much power is used to keep a minimum temperature on the battery, but I couldn't imagine it would cost another 8mi/day.

11 days later... Eman, did it make it?

Brian H | January 5, 2013

He stalled on the road and froze to death. Very sad. <;(

Anyone know the exact location where he passed. He might be dead but the car should be easy enough to be brought back to life. I'm sure since he was frozen, the car shouldn't smell to bad. The only real issue will be that it'll be hard to pry the key fob out of his frozen hands. :)

Sorry, forgot my manners,I am so sorry to hear of Eman's passing. Sigh.Sniff, sniff. Ok, I think I have shown the proper respect. Now any new information where the car might be? Color spec's? Did he get the cargo net, outdoor cover? Just asking?

Wow! Are we all that desperate for a Tesla. ;0)

Sudre_ | January 6, 2013

Well he could have also come back got in the car and discovered it was a $100,000 brick so he blew his brains out in the drivers seat.... that would be a messy used car.

Either way, I wouldn't take it without power folding mirrors. It's a deal breaker.
