Chill

Saw someone say "the car can't get out of it's own way in Chill"
Got me to wondering - what are the numbers in Chill mode - Anyone have numbers?

I bet it is still a lot faster than a lot of cars out there

Neomaxizoomdweebie | April 17, 2019

Sounds to me like you’ve just created an excuse to go for a drive. Take your stopwatch.

Bighorn | April 17, 2019

It's about 7 seconds or so to 60 I think.

charlie | April 17, 2019

Well, I was hoping for more "offical" numbers, without a morbidly obese person in the front seat

Bighorn | April 17, 2019

You want offical?
How's 6.68 seconds?
Erik is pretty fit.

Chill is still pretty quick apparently. I've never tried it - I can go slower if I want without it. I actually do it all the time....

kevin_rf | April 17, 2019

I may have a friend, yeah friend that hit 100 more than once in chill.

If you ever look at the charts from the guys that dyno'd the AWD, you are still talking 200+ hp. Not Performance hp and torque, but still pretty peppy. https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/2018-tesla-model-3-dual-motor-vs...

I have yet to take my Model 3 out of chill. It keeps rubber on the tires and points off my insurance.

Btw. It's about double the hp of a Prius.

disapr | April 17, 2019

I tried chill mode once just to see what the nonsense was... Will never use it again.

What we need is ludicrous mode.. This I would use.

sandiegogreg | April 17, 2019

Put chill on the wife's profile and its a good thing... as for me- I'm all about not chilling with a car like this.

charlie | April 17, 2019

@Bighorn - that works. 6.68. I'd call that "able to get out of it's own way"

tomasrey88 | April 17, 2019

The Tesla delivery guy said that Chill mode does not make the car go slower. However, it does accelerate a little slower. 6.68 seconds sounds about right. That's still faster than a late 1970s Porsche 911 and Nissan 240Z. That's about the same speed as a late 1970s Corvette or Ferrari Dino. That's still plenty fast for me.

Chill is not slower. It does not limit max speed. It just takes the edge off to conserve battery power and slows down battery degradation.

gmkellogg | April 17, 2019

Coming from a Prius, Chill mode still accelerates quicker than a prius.

kevin_rf | April 17, 2019

+1 gmkellogg
In chill you have 200hp+ vs 120hp

lordmiller | April 17, 2019

Anything accelerates quicker than a Prius. What a turd that thing is.

charlie | April 17, 2019

@lordmiller Guess you never drove a mid 80s Ford Escort (My first new car), or even worse a Citroën 2CV (which I got to drive on a lark one time - VERY rare in the USA). The Escort was rated at a whopping 89HP new - and when it had 80K miles on it - there were interstates where maintaining 55MPH uphill was not possible

Carl Thompson | April 17, 2019

@charlie:
"... there were interstates where maintaining 55MPH uphill was not possible"

Heck the same was true of my 2015 BMW i3 when it was burning gas in range extended mode. And the hill wasn't steep. I thought I might get run over by a truck because the car slowed down to the 40s even though I had the accelerator floored!

BMW definitely didn't tell me about that when they were touting the benefits of the car...

Iwantmy3 | April 17, 2019

charlie,
I had a '76 Toyota Corolla in '85. That car had ~55hp when new. When I had it, it could only achieve highway speed when positioned within 10ft of a semi. Forget about going uphill.

beaver | April 17, 2019

@Big I used Dragy to measure 0-60 in Chill Mode for my LR RWD M3
7.71 sec

90% SOC on high mileage stock 18” tires

Bighorn | April 17, 2019

I think Erik has a Performance.

beaver | April 17, 2019

Woot! I can beat a P3 if it’s on Chill #moralvictory

^^^^^ THIS!!! All of it!!!

charlie | April 18, 2019

Like I said, the slowest car I ever got to drive was a 2cv - with it's WHOPPING 9Hp. Yes, you read that right, NINE whole HP

apoh | April 20, 2019

How do you turn off the chill mode i hate it..
