The Ugandan government has already pumped $70m into the project. According to Akovuku, in its first year of production KMC will make 840 cars per month adding up to over 10,000 units annually. It will employ over 500 people.
Whatever the chances are of this project getting off the ground (and I think they are indeed low), its one more potential success story for EV's and for Africa. This story serves to prove that the push for electrification of transportation is global, and that the EV space offers more opportunities for new entrants than conventional cars do.
