I hate Chinese spammers

Is there anybody to stop Chinese spammers?
Forum moderator/admin maybe?
Mark all as read would be very helpful in cases like this.

Time to implement a captcha and 2 factor authentication. Something Tesla should do anyway.

Dramsey | 14 March 2019

And it would be so painfully easy to fix. Trivial, even.

It wouldn't reduce the forum's minimal capabilities one iota to disallow Unicode characters and enforce the use of straight 7-bit ASCII. Poof! Chinese spam vanishes forever.

lilbean | 14 March 2019

RIP Forum

SCCRENDO | 14 March 2019

Agreed . I hate them plus those that post clickbait links within threads and climate change denier troll spammers

lilbean | 14 March 2019

Get to Mammoth. It's gorgeous out!

EVRider | 14 March 2019

A better solution would be to set a limit on how many threads a single user can create in a given time period. That would work regardless of the language used. This has been suggested many times before, but the request has fallen on deaf ears.

rxlawdude | 14 March 2019

I think this is clearly done by competitors. NIO comes to mind. Or, Bob Lutz just learned how to use a computer. :-)

rxlawdude | 14 March 2019

@EV, the problem is they are shifting usernames now. I used to be able to use the Tesla Forum Enhancement Suite for Chrome to ignore the (then) single user spamming.

Now, every few spams the username has changed...

"A better solution would be to set a limit on how many threads a single user can create in a given time period."

They have already done this, note that the user name changes every 2 posts. It appears they have programmed the bot to just create a new user name every 2 posts.

@lilbean. I have the IKON pass. I am going monthly. I was there last weekend and planning to go in April and probably in May. I have been using the Model S and so far have not had to use chains

lilbean | 14 March 2019

@SCCRENDO That's great. I have the IKON pass too. We've been coming up every month. Looks like we were here at the same time!

SCCRENDO | 14 March 2019

Where do you normally ski? Which part of the mountain?

lilbean | 14 March 2019

I snowboard out of canyon lodge. We have a place right next to it. Where do you ski?

blue adept | 14 March 2019

If all they're going to do is post a bunch of spam about how they can provide you with a forged diploma from some institute of higher learning of your choice, then to Hell with them.

Consider this my vote to implement the necessary protocol to prevent such irrelevant nonsense from being posted on the site.

blue adept | 14 March 2019

How long you been snowboarding @lilbean?

You say you've got a place up there, so are you a Bluebird, bro, bum, liftie, park rat, or powder hound?

SCCRENDO | 14 March 2019

@lilbean. Mostly out of Canyon Lodge but it depends where we stay. Likely staying at Mammoth Mountain Inn in April. So we will go out of Main Lodge. I try head out to Eagle side in the morning sunlight and then move over to Canyon and then Main Lodge. We usually eat lunch at McCoy Station. My wife prefers blue groomers so I ski mostly with her. When she stops I do the upper slopes and moguls.

lilbean | 14 March 2019

@blue adept Ive only been boarding for a couple years. I'm a powder hound. I got so spoiled in The last two months with all the snow dumping. Thankfully, I'm ok with the packed stuff right now. I hope to play in the park soon. I used to be a skier but never got good at it so I switched. I enjoy boarding much more! I've been putting in about 5 hours a day and I've improved so much! Very happy about that! I finally had to wait for my kids this time. Haha! Do you board?

@SCCRENDO That's great! I've actually enjoyed boarding by myself. My little guy likes to board too close to me and it makes me nervous. The family likes to go up for a short time and I like to go all day.

sosmerc | 14 March 2019

How do we know whether or not all these (Chinese?) posts are not related to them trying to frantically place and order for their new Tesla?? :).........

blue adept | 14 March 2019

@lilbean

Yep!

blue adept | 14 March 2019

BTW all, I did some checking and when I dissected the translation through a reverse DNS lookup I found that the Chinese has been converted from Uzbek (as in Uzbekistan, like part of the former Soviet republic Uzbekistan), so it appears likely than it's some Russian hacker disguising themselves as Chinese to displace the responsibility.

Who knows, maybe they're pissed because Tesla built a factory in China and not Russia?! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

blue adept | 14 March 2019

"Geo-block" Russia and we should be good to go!

TAC | 14 March 2019

Man the forums are trashed. Its downright vandalism not just spam.

blue adept | 16 March 2019

I Agree! Criminal even.

Bloob | 16 March 2019

There's a Chrome extension that helps, if you're using Chrome on a desktop/laptop:

yraegel | 16 March 2019

Does anyone from Tesla actually participate anywhere on these forums?

Tesla-David | 16 March 2019

I got a thankyou comment recently from Tesla-Energy for a post I made in the Tesla-Energy forum, so at least someone is reading posts there, not sure about the General, MS, M3, MX, and Roadster forums.

kcheng | 16 March 2019

All the moderators have been let go. Gotta save money. They're all ski-bumming at Mammoth. Must be quite the drop off Cornice now. Maybe we should refer those USC diplomas to those parents in LA.

SCCRENDO | 16 March 2019

@Kcheng. Quite a stereotype you are trying to create. It must be tough hanging out on socialist liberal forums.

JustSaying | 16 March 2019

Who was that poster a few months ago that somehow accidentally got moderator abilities? Perhaps time to bring them back to clean this mess up.

SCCRENDO | 16 March 2019

I have contacted them in the past when needed. At the this point it is a significant system issue. I am pretty sure that they are aware of this issue and will find a way to address it. It’s not up to us to teach them their jobs. If they cannot find a way it will be bad news for Tesla. Having been a member of the club since early 2013 and an avid fanboi I believe if they fail it would be bad news. Because I believe these open mostly honest fora help sell cars.

JustSaying | 17 March 2019

Looks like it is getting a lot better (wow only kidding). When the Tesla web site people get back to work on Monday AM, those spamming people that work 24/7 won't stand a chance until next weekend...
Love the forums, please button them down..
When I as a CFO and we got hacked all hands were on deck Friday night until Saturday. we only lost money and it was covered by insurance , Tesla stands to get another bad hit piece right between the eyes.

Nexxus | 18 March 2019

Looks like they are gone now.
