Anyone interested in buying the rear spoiler?

Anyone interested in buying the rear spoiler?

I bought it along with the car. It was shipped just recently (months later). But now that I have it, I changed my mind and didnt install it. I like the look of the car without the spoiler. So thought I'd see if anyone here wants one at a discount.

Brand new and perfect, and you can take it to any service center and have them install it for free. Message me.

I'm interested - but there's no messaging function here. You can reach me at with the same username. Thanks -

jainalok | July 30, 2013

I will take it.. email me

Let the bidding begin!

TommyBoy | July 30, 2013

Well when you order it you get it for to sell it would seem to be for the shipping and packaging only....anything more is, uh, very capitalistic....

ian | July 30, 2013

Nothing wrong with capitalism. Especially since you can't buy one after the fact.

vincent1001 | July 30, 2013

I want it. Please mail me with the price you want. By the way, where are you located ?

TiburonTesla | July 30, 2013

Thx guys, I'll email you in the order of your responses. When it's gone, it's gone.

I'm in NorCal by the way.

TiburonTesla | July 30, 2013

@patrick (baby rocket)
I've tried pm'ing you on the other site and it's incredibly difficult with all the security questions and sign ups. Send me your email and I'll contact you directly.

Babyrocket | July 31, 2013

Unfortunately the wife is apparently not a fan of the spoiler so I'm going to have to pass. You may proceed to the next willing buyer!

Thanks -

I'm interested!

AmpedRealtor | July 31, 2013

I ordered my P without the spoiler, then asked the DS if they could just throw it in the trunk and ship it with the vehicle. She said no, it has to be mounted at the factory otherwise they cannot release it to me as a loose part. Damn!

mdemetri | July 31, 2013

The information that the spoiler must be added at the factory is not true. I am still waiting on mine almost 5 months after getting my P85 and when it arrives, it will be installed at my local service center.

AmpedRealtor | July 31, 2013

The DS indicated that spoilers are shipped directly to the service centers for installation, but will not be handed over as a loose, uninstalled part. Are people getting spoilers shipped to their homes or to the local service center?

CalabasasKid | July 31, 2013

I'll paypal you in the morning for the thing... just email me and let me know...

TiburonTesla | July 31, 2013

Mine was shipped 6 months after I received my car.
It was sent right to my house. I took it to the service center and he said they are happy to put it right on for free.

But then I changed my mind and decided to just sell the spoiler.

Jainalok, you were second to respond. I'll email you now.....

I'm interested as well. Please contact me:

TiburonTesla | August 3, 2013

Sorry guys, sold.
I went down the list from the top and it went right away.

AmpedRealtor | August 3, 2013

As of this morning, the spoiler is now a $1,500 add-on. I called my DS and quickly had her put the spoiler back into my original P85 order (no charge). I had no idea it would raise the price of my car and would also reduce rear end lift by 77%!

pdx4s | August 3, 2013

I added it against all odds from the beginning of my P85 order/config., I am not convinced that their claim for drag reduction is accurate, if they would share the wind tunnel data/chart with and with out I would have more confidence in it, right now for me it's just an esthetical side of it.

earlyretirement | August 3, 2013

@ AmpedRealtor - Yeah I saw that! I didn't have it included before. But I wonder if it's available if you already put in the order and request it but request not to put it on the car. I wonder if they would still add it?

docdac | August 3, 2013

My spoiler (ordered with my p85) did not come at delivery in Dec, but a Ranger out of Chicago came to me 3 weeks later (at no charge) and installed it in my garage. I like the look of it much more than I thought I would. The glossy grey carbon fiber is very complementary to my black finish, which I have detailed with MacGuires Tech 2.0 wax which has a very 'wet' look.
The new spoilers have a flat finish instead of a glossy finish, and are a little more boxey. Currently, both are available at some service centers.

AmpedRealtor | August 3, 2013

@ earlyretirement,

I just received a call from the Sr. Delivery Specialist to address the new options. The spoiler is still the same carbon fiber spoiler from before, so if you opted out of the spoiler with your P85 order you can probably add it back in without any harm. She said she would do this for me because it was available without additional charge when I placed my order.

She also told me no, spoilers cannot be shipped without being mounted on the vehicle. I've now heard this from two people, both of which are citing NTSB regulations. Apparently some early buyers received their spoilers in the mail, which is great because that's like Tesla sending you over $1,000 in cash if you want to sell the thing! In my case, I'll keep it attached to the vehicle knowing that it raised my car's value without having to spend anything extra.

earlyretirement | August 3, 2013

Ah. Ok... I don't personally like the look of the spoiler. I like the sleek lines without it. But I figured if I could have gotten it free uninstalled, I would have just given it away to someone in my San Diego Tesla Club group.

But if you have to have it installed I won't even ask because I don't really like the look of it. Just a personal taste thingy.

TommyBoy | August 3, 2013

I'm surprised they told you that's the same carbon fiber spolier from previous builds. Apparently it's redesigned and it looks a lot longer. I had thought the older one was shorter in length and didn't run the length of the car.

It may keep the rear end down but it also keeps range down.

My wife and kid hated the look of it even when it was free and begged me not to get it. They said it looked like it was tacked onto the back of the vehicle and ruined to beautiful lines of the car.

Oh well, it's a moot point now. We're not getting it.

earlyretirement | August 3, 2013

@ TommyBoy. Yep. I have to agree with your wife and kids. I really think it ruins the sleep and gorgeous lines of the car. I guess maybe if you were younger and wanted to make the car more sporty?? LOL. But married with a few kids that doesn't appeal to me. ;)

ian | August 3, 2013

With all the complaints of premature rear tire wear I wonder how many of those folks actually have the rear spoiler. If it really does reduce lift (aka increase downforce) you're just adding more downward pressure on the rear tires and wearing them out quicker. Especially if you drive on the highway a lot.

I'm torn on the aesthetics. Sometimes I like it, sometimes I don't.

AmpedRealtor | August 3, 2013

My words were a little muddled earlier, my apologies. A more accurate representation of the DS' words would have been that all cars currently shipping w/ spoilers are shipping with the "new" design that is now a $1,500 option. This new design has already been shipping, however, and was re-designed some months ago. So people have already been getting the new one as "due bill" items on previous orders.

So yes, it is redesigned, and yes, it is the same spoiler as the one already shipping because the one that is currently shipping is already the new design. I need a drink.

sorka95032 | March 27, 2015

I chose not to get it. If it had been standard and you had to pay to not get it, it then I would have paid for the "don't-ruin-the-lines-of-my-car-option".

omega | March 27, 2015

I think out of all options the spoiler is a total waste..
