First song

First song

Now that I have received my email to build my Model S, I am imagining that first ride and need to decide what music will suit such an occasion. Radar Love maybe? What will be your first driving tune in your new Model S?

Mike_ModelS_P457 | August 22, 2012

What about folk?

Brian H | August 22, 2012

No longer a separate category! Have to squeeze in with the "Popular" genre, I'm afraid. Are there any current folk artists on the charts? I don't follow such things all that closely.

Volker.Berlin | August 22, 2012

If it's in the charts, it's "pop" by definition. Are there any current classical artists on the charts? I don't follow such things all that closely. >:P

Brian H | August 22, 2012

Actually there are long-standing and extensive classical "charts", with their own stars and superstars. The thing about classical is that it endures (almost by definition). But it seems the time for folk has pretty much passed. It was a Boomer-generation thing.

I guess Arlo and Leonard are still doing concerts, etc. Who else? | August 22, 2012

"Damn this traffic jam" by James Taylor would likely qualify as folk/pop,

Teoatawki | August 22, 2012

I used to program to classical music. Besides the fact that I enjoyed it, I never got distracted by the words. The problem with classical music in the car is the dynamic range, which makes the soft passages drowned out by road noise, and your eardrums ruptured if you boosted it to hear the soft passages when the loud sections hit.

But this car is so quiet, maybe I could really enjoy some classical music in my Model S.

A few more:

Tesla Girls and Electricity by OMD
Anything by Tesla (the rock band from Sacramento)
Built for Speed by the Stray Cats
Rhythm from a Red Car by Hardline
Rockin' down the Highway by the Doobie Brothers
Oh Yeah by Chickenfoot
Blue Highway by Billy Idol
Baby You Can Drive My Car by the Beatles
Driver's Seat by Sniff 'N the Tears

This has been a fun discussion--I now have a whole playlist!

mw | September 30, 2012

No Sammy Hagar fans?!!! I can't drive 55... all time favorite song.

pilotSteve | September 30, 2012

my play list will probably start with "At Last" by Etta James!

cosmomusic | September 30, 2012

Up tempo love song. Perfect candidate here for the exhilaration of Model S.

You and Me by COSMO; CD: Alone Tonight.

Captain_Zap | September 30, 2012

The last time I saw Sammy Hagar he changed the lyrics to
"I Can't Drive 65".

Teoatawki | October 1, 2012

That's ok. I can't drive 65 either! ;)

Velo1 | October 1, 2012

"On the road again" Willie Nelson

ReeceWeb | October 1, 2012

Howzabout [Signature] Red Barchetta by Rush.

prash.saka | October 1, 2012

@pilotSteve +1 for At Last.

I love that song ... more so as it is the first dance song at my wedding.

mw | October 1, 2012

Captain_Zap: Well I guess I show my age... I can't drive 65 either! LOL

Brian H | October 1, 2012

How soon will he escalate to 75? <8-0

STARR X | October 2, 2012

"Drive " by Incubus.

jackhub | October 2, 2012

My first will be the Stone's Start Me Up. The second will be Simon and Garfunkel's Sounds of Silence. What could be more appropriate for a powerful, silent EV.

hwye81k | October 2, 2012

Sounds of Silence........good call jackhub.

Teoatawki | October 3, 2012

Right now I'm torn, but I'm leaning toward "take 5" by Dave Brubeck. Its driving 5/4 beat is both relaxing and pushes me forward at the same time. And in a car this quiet, you can really savor a legendary jazz piece like this one.

petero | October 17, 2012

You might give a listen to Mike Oldfield – Tubular Bells

s_curve | October 17, 2012

Life is a Highway - Tom Cochrane.

(Rascal Flats was a cover)

Mark E | October 18, 2012

Autobahn - Kraftwerk

mrspaghetti | October 18, 2012

Actually I kind of like that song they played prior to the Supercharger event - The Veldt, by deadmau5

And the lyrics somehow fit the car. I can easily picture myself driving silently along at night listening to it.

Oaktowner | October 18, 2012

+1 epley for the play list.

And I'll add "Oh, Yeah" by Yello (you might remember it as the Ferrari song from Ferris Beuller's Day Off).

"Doh Doh....chicka chickaahhhhhhhhhhhhh."

DouglasR | October 18, 2012

Tesla Sally?

weeandthewads | October 18, 2012

I can't drive 55!

tharasix | October 18, 2012

I like the idea of queuing up "Fight for your Right" by the Beastie Boys and hitting the goose pedal right after he yells, "Kick it!"

Captain_Zap | October 18, 2012

I was at a show a couple weeks ago and Mike Portnoy (Hall of Fame drummer for Dream Theater, Avenged Sevenfold, Transatlantic, and many more) came out during the encore and said he had a fantasy about singing a song on stage since he was a little kid. Until then I had totally forgotten the song. He gave up the drum kit to Neil Morse and took the mike. It was:

"Crazy Horses" - a song protesting car pollution that was written by the Osmonds. Mike Portnoy really rocked it out at the live show I was at.

(I wish I could find a better recording of it to share.)

Captain_Zap | October 18, 2012

Here's the original "Crazy Horses"

prash.saka | October 18, 2012

How about the Rocky theme song?

Runar | October 19, 2012

Speed demon Michael Jackson

Runar | October 22, 2012

I have complied a playlist with all the songs mentioned in this thread, at Spotify.

"Tesla Model S"

Should be available for everyone who search iwthin Spotify.

Peter Spirgel | October 22, 2012

BYT | October 22, 2012

@Runar, LOL, Awesome! I look forward to discovering some new tunes when I listed to that playlist in my Model S.

SSL161 | October 22, 2012

Geek warning.

I picked the music from "Star Trek the Motion Picture" where Kirk is re-introduced to the Enterprise after her first refit.

I liked it because it showed them doing a "walk around" before entering, something I figure everyone would do with a new car. :)

(Performance Signature, Pearl White, Tan Interior.)

prash.saka | October 22, 2012

@Runar, good job!

Captain_Zap | October 22, 2012

Too cool for school!

Brian H | January 2, 2013

You all realize those video selections won't show video. Just the sound tracks! Video is verboten.

nav66 | January 2, 2013

"Trans Island Skyway" by Donald Fagen, from the 1993 album "Kamakiriad".

mikemooremd | January 2, 2013

It's gotta be "Magic Carpet Ride" by Steppenwolf! | January 2, 2013

I picked Dreams by Van Halen.

Shelmire | January 2, 2013

Either Mr. Blue Sky by ELO or Caddy-O by the Cars....however, Les Mis would rock.

jat | January 2, 2013

Whatever happens to be next on Google Play on my phone when I get it paired with the stereo. | January 2, 2013

You can tell slacker radio to play anything you want (while you pair your phone via bluetooth).

RZitrin1 | January 2, 2013

My first Slacker request by voice command with 4.0 software was King Crimson, In the Court of the Crimson King. Couldn't quite pump it up to 11, though. | January 2, 2013

rzitrin-- good choice-- Now I'll have to ask Slacker for Epitaph tomorrow.

AaronX | January 2, 2013

Tesla's (the band) Edison's Medicine

HiddenGems99 | January 2, 2013

My car arrives tomorrow - then I fly to the east coast on Friday for three days with it parked at SeaTac, taunting me from a distance as I enjoy my mid-sized rental SUV with cloth seats and the funk of 30 or 40 thousand miles of various misuse on the roads of America.

So, fittingly, I'll probably listen to "Three Days" by Janes Addiction - 10 minutes and 46 seconds of pure bliss.
