120 vs 150 kW Charging Speed Comparision

120 vs 150 kW Charging Speed Comparision

Interesting video of charging speed difference with the software update.

This seems to be a pretty fair race between the two cars. When traveling I usually only charge up to a maximum of 70% SOC. The 150 kW car hits 70% SOC at 27:30, the 120 kW car 29:24. A 1:54 difference, not really much in the grand scheme. But I'll take it.

I am not sure about this one actually.

I have personally gotten 650mph @ 150kw but this video shows a max of 500mph.

Probably just the supercharging situation there.

I've seen other videos where the displayed charging rate stops at exactly 500 MPH. I think it is a limitation in the display SW, rather than a limit on the actual charging rate. Hopefully they will fix this some day.

I've gotten up to 145 wH charging, but the maximum MPH displayed is always 500.

Speed in MPH is not programmed correctly yet. Maxes at 500 which people were seeing at 118 kW.

I’ve seen as high as 480s, 490s.

I have software update 2019.12.1.2
Last weekend I went to my local supercharger (listed as 120 Kw on Tesla) and charged at 150 Kw. I can't say there is any real difference in the total amount of time it took to charge to 90%. I added 256 miles in 50 minutes. If memory serves me right, it took the same amount of time to charge at 120 Kw. Looking forward to V3 Supercharger.

This video has been referenced here before. The 150kW charger slows down drastically at 40%. I did not see such a rapid drop off when I charged a couple days ago. It is likely that the slower charge rate after that was due to overheating on the charger (or charger handle) and not a restriction on the car.
