Crash Tests

Crash Tests

Can someone tell me how the crash tests are performed? Does Tesla have their own test facility? Do they practice on cars unofficially until they feel ready? When they are ready do they invite the NHST inspector to observe and then are stuck with the score they get until they repeat the test?

What is the procedure and what do you think would happen if they did not get a perfect score?

As Mark Tarpenning pointed out: apparently they model the car and then simulate most of the crashes. Very rarely will they actually crash a car to verify their simulation. Or maybe to get an actual crash test rating.
