It is very difficult to run out of juice in a Tesla. You have to ignore repeated warnings from the software.
Electric vehicles typical have a reserve charge even after they indicate they are depleted. This is done to extend the life of the battery. Some of this reserve could be offered for a price in an emergency as an alternative to a tow. The price would offset the increased replacement cost for the battery within the manufacturer’s warranty.
Having some sort of cost also makes it more likely to only be used in an emergency. Human factors say that if this is a free option, it will be used much more frequently, reducing the practice of critical skills such as planning.
