Answer to the spam/trolls?
That would prevent potential owners from learning about the car.
@murphyS90D - I read this as anyone can still read, just not post. This says a potential owner can't ask a question, but they could still see all the existing dialogue and learn from that. So I'd say it doesn't prevent, but does make it maybe more difficult to learn.
Considering the amount of SPAM on this board, this is a good compromise to me. I would have preferred that Tesla upgrade their forum software to allow posting limits, and enforce better verification for non owners to allow some posting by non owners, but alas that is not going to happen.
...or just have a dedicated moderator.
Poor idea. There are tons of ways to filter potential spam.
Excellent idea. There are so many owners now it is not needed to allow junk posts. It will make the forums more readable and useful for all.
i agree, this way is better. Non-owners can find just about any question you can come up with by reading posts. At least this way the spammers are finally done.
Now if we could only come up with a fool-proof way to eliminate double posts...?
Maybe this can prevent non owners from asking the same question over and over since most likely, the question has been answered already.
But a search function within the site would be good.
Using google works fine too.
+1 SO! And we don't have to see a hundred whining threads about price changes.
I read this forum for a month before I decided to buy a Tesla. I would hate to deny another potential buyer looking for information.
Non owners are not locked out. And they can post within threads if they have uncovered questions.
Did your hear about the recent price changes?

Non owners are not locked out. And they can post within threads if they have uncovered questions."
"Posting to the Tesla Forums is now limited to verified Owners. To verify your account, contact firstname.lastname@example.org."
@Bighorn, I read this as non-owners can not post within threads. What am I missing?
Problem is that the registered owner is my wife, for fiscal reasons, but I drive the car (she can't drive). Now I can't start a topic, and my wife is not interested.
So what do I do?
@mickel.werner - If you are driving the car, you would have access to her Tesla account (you need it for the phone app). You can use the same login to post topics. And you can change the handle on that account to your name.
1) Anyone can post within topics - I could last night when I didn't have owner privileges
2) Only owners can create a new topic - I couldn't last night but now I can since I received those privileges
What rsingh said. The warning sounds more comprehensive than reality.
I just got my owner privileges a few minutes ago. I now see "Flag as inappropriate" in red in the lower right of each post. What happens if I click on it?
And now if I go to start a thread I see I can check off a box for 'Private.' What does that mean?
Hopefully a lot of the 'noise' will be eliminated with this new change. Looking forward to see how it all pans out.
If you and six others flag, it gets deleted.
Private threads are only seen by other registered owners.
do you have to contact that E-mail to get the privilege to "flag" post?
nvm, found the answer. sent E-mail to the forum E-mail address, waiting for my "flagging" rights, lol
Posting two or more topic about same issue is spam too, isn't it?
Twice in General sectionhttps://forums.tesla.com/forum/forums/posting-now-limited-verified-ownershttps://forums.tesla.com/forum/forums/finally-posting-now-limited-tesla-...
And this one.
@T35LAX Thinks that he is a moderator. Or he would like to be one.
I do not think I'm a moderator. But the moderator would be welcome to edit and draw attention to such matters.
There are no moderators here. There's occasionally someone clearing the spam, that's about it.
Was able to post private WITHOUT verifying account. It put the message atop of screen. Just ignored it, and it posted private ......
Maybe Tesla already determined my account was already verified prior to the ch ch change.....
Or something else ?
@AIA304: If you already had ownership privileges, you didn’t need to verify your account.
Don't get any funny ideas! :)
I (still) get the "Posting to the Tesla Forums is now limited to verified Owners. To verify your account, contact email@example.com." I have emailed them twice in the past 2 days and still can't post new threads. WTF!
If you show your crack like @silver, you'd get an immediate response...
Silver2K..........if there just some way to be able to privately contact 6 others and form a ............oh nevermind.........
I e-mailed them and got a response back in about 4 hours. Flagging rights granted, lmao
This is a test. What version am I on? How do I get the update? Who’s lilbean? Is this fake news?
ktslab: maybe my e-mail is going to their spam folder.
Did someone say "show your crack"?
