Anyone covered the door release button with these vinyl labels? Did it stop your passengers from grabbing the emergency release?
Link or pic?
I bought multi-color smiley labels at Dollar Tree. - 110 labels for a dollar.y Just say "press the smiley"
Bought it on amazon. Covers button. Says “DOOR OPEN”
@ syclone, oh no! Kiddie stickers in your car?!
@ Chewbacca, I got ones from amazon that look good (there are a few brands like these): https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07MHLLNKS?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_t...
@M3phan: A little crude, but they focus the users attention and divert the passenger from using the dreaded manual release
I used these and they worked perfectly. I don't have to say anything, they just read the text and know what to do.
However, I had the "door" come apart on the driver's label and because it is metal it sliced my finger. Blood all over my hand. I put a bad review because of it.
Unfortunate really, as they work perfectly.
… Work perfectly at finger slicing, yes.
I'm trying to find an SVG file of this type of thing. There are a ton of people selling them, but I have a vinyl cutter and can do that myself -- I just don't feel like designing it, too.
Yup, this was the first mod I did to my car after buying it, actually installed 2 hrs after picking it up.
I still get the occasional "How do I open the door?" question but I just tell them to push the "Open Door" button. So far no one has grabbed the Emergency release yet.
Public service: Teach your family (or regular riders) where the Emergency release is, just in case, and tell them never to use.
I got the stickers after an incident where my wife used the emergency door release latch instead of the button. There was an error message on the M3 screen and I gently told her not to do that again.
So I would say the stickers saved my marriage. They were over priced at $10 when I bought them but now that they are under $4 it seems like a fair price.
iPhone home buttons with the letter "T" work for me. look like they came from the factory. Get them on Amazon.
Yes, It works :-)
I got the picture ones... doesn't really help. It took me a long time to remember most people are used to a handle lol.
I was hoping someone would have come up with some 3D print "lock" by now.
It's always the first thing I tell new passengers about. The second thing is, "Headrest!"
I just tape thumb tacks to the manual release. Works like a charm!
@bryan.whitton: I have to admit the stickers you referenced from Amazon are much classier than my yellow smileys, I just ordered them.
Follow up. It has definitely reduced passenger user error. Installation tip: use a tweezers to apply. Reduces crooked application especially for those of us who don’t have the hands of a surgeon
I bought them when I saw them on Amazon. They definitely help. The instinct to grab that manual release is just too strong, it's right where so many door releases are. If the passengers will pause just the least bit I can point and they say "oh, yeah" without providing expletives.
