2016 AP1 Hardware+Conv - Autopilot?

2016 AP1 Hardware+Conv - Autopilot?

Purchased directly from Tesla a 2016 MS which states AP1 Hardware with Convenience Features. There are no options in vehicle or online for purchasing Autopilot. Tesla Support states no hardware to support Autopilot however I purchased under the impression the upgrade would be available to Autopilot as every piece of documentation from online advertisement to Motor Vehicle Purchase Agreement and the Vehicle Configuration states Autopilot Hardware 1 with Conv Features. Interested in any details that can be shared or recommendations before I drop in to the Tesla facility where I purchased. Thx!

Are you serious? You bought an AP1 car. It's been known for years that you can't upgrade an AP1 car to AP2 or 2.5.

You got EXACTLY what you paid for - Autopilot 1 with convenience features.

AP1 Hardware:
1 camera integrated with the base of the rear view mirror
1 radar transceiver at the bottom center of the front of the car if a prerefresh 2016. It's not visible on a refresh 2016
12 ultrasonic transducers; 4 on the front of the car, 4 on the rear of the car, 1 on each fender
All cars built after October 2014 should have AP1 hardware until the introduction of AP2 in late 2016 (I think)

Tony, that's what mine has and I love it. Mine is the new refresh front end but the system works great for everyday freeway driving.

@tony: Are you saying that your car has AP1 hardware but AP is not enabled, and you want to buy it? I thought it was still possible to buy AP1 on cars that had the AP1 hardware, but I’m not sure.

Tony- pull the cruise control stick towards you twice quickly when you see the grayed out steering wheel on a well lined road. If that works - you have AP.

I haven’t seen a car listed by Tesla that only had the hardware and wasn’t activated and I looked for a while before buying my 2016 90D. Every car had ‘AP1’ as it is commonly referred to, some of the 2016s had AP 2 but the description you gave is that of an AP1 car.

AP1 is wonderful, I enjoy it every time I get in the car. My goal is to stay away from AP2+ cars for the next 5 years so I don’t talk myself into yet ANOTHER Tesla!

Congrats on your ride.

To add to the topic; anyone know what to expect for software updates to autopilot on V1 hardware? Is development stopped? Thanks.

@price.sicard: I would expect AP1 to continue to get bug fixes and improvements, but no new features.

thranx | March 25, 2019

@EVRider: precisely...and I expected nothing more when I purchased the car (July 2016 build).

Jcastillo18 | March 25, 2019

Yeah clarify if you have autopilot or not ? You should autopilot 1 with the car.
