Bentley Bentayga by the Numbers

Bentley Bentayga by the Numbers

Ahead of an official unveiling at the Frankfurt motor show next week, Bentley Motors has pulled the wraps off the Bentayga — "the fastest, most powerful, most luxurious and most exclusive SUV in the world."

Bentayga: 0 to 60 in 4 seconds
X: 3.8 seconds, 3.2 seconds with Ludicrous

Bentayga: Top Speed 187 mph
X: 155 mph

Bentayga: 4 passengers
X: 7

Bentayga: 14 mpg city, 20 mpg highway, 16 mpg combined
X: I'm not sure it has been released, but probably close to the 89 mpge of the S.

Bentayga: $246,000
X: $144,950 with all options

Ok, so the Bentayga has a higher top speed, but I think it is now clear how good a value the X is.

Bentayga: 600 hp / 663 lb-ft
Model X (based on P90D MS): 762 hp / 687 lb-ft

Probably losing the "most powerful" title.

There doesn't seem to be much "utility" in that Sport Utility Vehicle. Is there zero trunk space and just frunk space since it looks like the engine is in the back?

Bentley will fail with this unless their intent is to sell no more than 1000 cars.

Bentley isn't exactly a high volume manufacturer. This will appeal to their core customers who are looking for something plush and powerful in a SUV form factor and don't care about environmental impact.

It does look like the engine is in front like most conventional vehicles. I can see how it's misleading since the picture of the chassis is facing the opposite direction compared to the full vehicle above it, but there appears to be a steering column coming up from it that would only make sense in a front engine placement.

This is being made for those Bentley customers that want a SUV, but from within the Bentley family. Look, if Porsche can sells thousands upon thousands of Cayennes, which is built on the assembly line as the VW Tourage, then Bentley will undoubtedly sell "plenty" of these. As we all know, there are people who have to have something different than everyone else. They want to set themselves apart from the pack, and this SUV will fill that niche.

$246k is the starting price. Wonder what it'll be fully loaded.
