Free Unlimited Supercharging returning for certain new MS/MX orders?

Free Unlimited Supercharging returning for certain new MS/MX orders?

Hi, just been reading on Tesla Motors Club and elsewhere that there are rumors that free unlimited supercharging, perhaps tied to owner rather than vehicle, may apply to 2nd Q 2017 orders, or perhaps all MS and MX (to differentiate from M3). Anyone have anything definitive on this?
Thanks
Mark

Nikkithetesla | May 19, 2017

I was told today from Tesla dealership that any order placed before midnight tonight will have unlimited supercharging on any model S or model X and that it will be tight to the owner so if you buy a new model S next year that model S will still have free supercharging

Boonedocks | May 19, 2017

Has anyone else's 400kWh usage / charges disappeared off of their My Tesla page

mark.manner | May 19, 2017

I just noticed that I no longer see a screen on My Tesla that refers to the 400 kWh annual allocation and how much of it I have left. It seems to have disappeared (got my car first week of April fwiw).
Tesla will at some point release info on this if it is true. If not true, I suppose they won't say anything. Not that it is a really big deal. I just calculated that the electricity cost for 100k miles of driving at the rate for electricity here in Middle TN is about $4,000. Nice to have, but the extended warranty costs more than that.

SeaDoc | May 19, 2017

Are you saying that those of us who have purchased Tesla's prior to January 15, 2017 will be able to have free supercharging for any Tesla's that we may purchase in the future? No longer tied to the car, but to our period of ownership. For those of you that no longer have the 400 kwh limitation on your myTesla website, had you owned Tesla's previously? Thanks

Boonedocks | May 19, 2017

I have. My first was a 2015 S85D and sold when I purchased my S100D

spatters805 | May 19, 2017

Does that mean that current lifetime Supercharger owners now have supercharging tied to the owner and not the car?

KP in NPT | May 19, 2017

I would trust nothing until we hear it from Tesla.

mark.manner | May 19, 2017

@SeaDoc, I haven't owned a Tesla before getting my 100D in April this year.

mark.manner | May 19, 2017

Ok, just check myTesla again, and now the history section with remaining free supercharging has reappeared. However, it now shows 400kWh remaining, and I have already used some of it. Before today it showed 350kWh remaining. So, this am, 350kWh remaining; later today, history and reference to 400kWh was removed; now, it has reappeared but is now back to 400kWh. Weird!!

Tâm | May 19, 2017

@mark.manner

Usually, Tesla would promote a special deal by letting the news outlets know so I don't see why it only communicates the deal to only a few specific customers this time.

If it is true, make sure it is in a written document.

skydiver76 | May 19, 2017

One member on TMC is reporting back to 400kwh and also refund for any paid supercharging as well.

spatters805 | May 19, 2017

Why would they offer lifetime supercharging (extended to owners and not the car) for 1 day gimmick even after dropping prices.

Are sales numbers this month that far off?

MelaniaFromBrentwood | May 19, 2017

OMG! Current owners: open your app. In the top right corner there is a picture of a golden treasure chest. Click on it and it'll show you that you can give 5 referrals free lifetime supercharging. Don't believe me? Open your own app. Just posted! Will post photo on TMC!

I just went to the My Tesla page and it literally says I have free, unlimited supercharging. I bought a 100D that I took delivery of in March and it definitely did not come with unlimited supercharging - I remember this because I was changing it from a 12/31 90D order that did and this was one of the tradeoffs I had to accept to get the 100D.

I wonder if they will credit me back the $12 in excess supercharging they already billed me for :)

onautopilot | May 19, 2017

I just got an icon on my Tesla IPhone e app called "Loot Box." It says I have a new special referral code that will grant the purchaser the 1000$ off AND free supercharging for life. I haven't seen this before. PM me if anyone would like to use my code.

burdogg | May 19, 2017

So much for no more free unlimited supercharging. Anyone that uses a referral code will get unlimited supercharging (unless they are the 6th one, but it doesn't sound like you can give out more than 5 referrals with your code). Go to your MyTesla page, click on your car and you will see it there.

Is there really anyone out there that doesn't use a referral code? I mean you get $1,000 off your order AND free unlimited supercharging. Guess we are not looking at cutting done use :)

p.c.mcavoy | May 19, 2017

I just spotted this on my MyTesla page and was just about to post something about whether I was the only one that had been asleep and missed all this. Here is the text that now appears on my MyTesla page under supercharging.

"You have free, unlimited Supercharging, including your current Tesla and any new Model S or Model X you purchase. If you choose to sell your current Tesla, free Supercharging will transfer to the next owner. In addition, up to five friends you refer will also receive free Supercharging. Read our Supercharging terms."

Says I'll be free unlimited supercharging for any additional MS/MX purchases I make, plus up to five referrals getting free unlimited supercharging.

Merry Christmas in May!

johnson.todd.r | May 19, 2017

When I read this earlier, my My Tesla page had not flipped to showing unlimited, but now it has.

cookpwr | May 19, 2017

Confirmed here too. I actually used a SuperCharger once and my page showed I had 350KW remaining of my annual 400KW. Now, just as others, my page shows I have Unlimited Supercharging. I ordered in January immediately after the 100D was released and took delivery in March 2017.

Colorado_Mike_60D | May 19, 2017

Confirmed here too. Took delivery in mid-April, now My Tesla shows free unlimited super charging.

Bighorn | May 19, 2017

So johndoeeye's 100 plus repeat postings gloating about pay per use was all for naught? I think he owes some people, SamO especially, an apology and some contrition about being wrong yet again.

akikiki | May 19, 2017

Ok! I spoke too soon. It is now posted in the press:

My S100D order's spec sheet changed - before, under "Charging" it had one line for the High Amperage Charger, saying it was "Included" - now it has a new line above that, also under "Charging" that simply says "Included"

Wait for all all of the "I wouldn't have bought my 90D in late December - Mid January if I had know this. I wanted a 100D with unlimited Supercharging"

They'll come out like cockroaches...

Run4Waffles | May 20, 2017

Then there should be lots of us cockroaches as 12/31/16 was Tesla's biggest day ever.

Hey, we're ending a program. Step right up. And no, you can't upgrade to the 100D. That's a separate, calculated demand lever.

Just kidding. Oops on us.

Bighorn | May 20, 2017

Apologies to johndoe--he only gloated 93 times with his Pay per Use repost. Jay kindly bumped it from the nether regions. I'm sure he still feels like he's right, so nobody hold their breath waiting for a mea culpa.

The rewards program also got a lot more aggressive. Arachnids after 3 referrals now.

bsteinesq | May 20, 2017

Woke up this AM (Saturday, May 20) to find an email from Brent Baldwin, "Director, United States - East" saying that I now had unlimited free charging. My S100D was ordered in late January and delivered on March 31. So I had missed the free charging cut-off. Then I saw a confirming story on "Teslarati" and checked "My Tesla" webpage. Sure enough, it now shows free unlimited supercharging! Thank you Tesla!

jordanrichard | May 20, 2017

Though I am grandfathered into the original Free supercharging (Mar.'14 delivery), I just want to get this straight. Now ALL MS/MX's come with free supercharging for life. Meaning, not to only the car, but to the person....?

Boonedocks | May 20, 2017

Sorry about the cockroach comment. Tooooo much SharkTank binge watching :) :) :-/

Bighorn | May 20, 2017

@jordan
Supposedly you need a referral link going forward. The introduction of pay per use was really about Model 3 fears and it's unfortunate the S/X got caught up in TSLA trying to reassure us with mechanisms to cut down on supercharging. It really took away one of their strongest guerilla advertising features.

KP in NPT | May 20, 2017

Posted on another thread but appropriate here too:

I don't see only certain S/X getting supercharging. Tesla is more likely to keep it simple. Having some S/X owners with free supercharging and some not doesn't sound very simple. I fully expect them to later announce all S/X will have free supercharging - or all buyers will be given a "code" - even if they don't have one from an owner.

inconel | May 20, 2017

The whining would have been huge if people who bought between Jan 15 and now did not get grand-fathered into unlimited free supercharging but new buyers can get it now via referral. I think Tesla did learn their lessons.

SamO | May 20, 2017

So Free for Life is a big selling point? Shocking.

dpollino | May 20, 2017

Here is my code that includes free supercharging: http://ts.la/david1392

inconel | May 20, 2017

I have some questions. It seems that there are now three categories of Model S and X owners:
(a) free unlimited supercharging for life
(b) free unlimited supercharging for current car
(c) no free unlimited supercharging

People who ordered before 1/15/2017 are (a)

Are people who ordered between 1/16/2017 and yesterday (a) or (b), I think (a)?

I guess people who order from today with a referral code will be (b)?

Do (b) people also have 5 referral codes for free unlimited supercharging?

If someone in (a) sells their car and bought a new Tesla one year later do they get free unlimited supercharging? In other words do we lose (a) status if we sell all of our Tesla cars in the household?

p.c.mcavoy | May 20, 2017

@jordanrichard - "I just want to get this straight. Now ALL MS/MX's come with free supercharging for life. "

If you look at the design studio and go spec a new car, it still gives you the information that you get 400 kWh worth of free supercharging credits per year. That says that ALL cars going forward do NOT get free unlimited supercharging.

Based upon what I see on my MyTesla page under the section Supercharging, I believe there are three paths that an owner can get free unlimited supercharging.

1) Buy an existing vehicle where it is included. Language on my page says "If you choose to sell your current Tesla, free Supercharging will transfer to the next owner."

2) As an existing owner that has free unlimited supercharging (I bought mine mid-2016), any MS or MX I buy will include free unlimited supercharging. Language on my page says "You have free, unlimited Supercharging, including your current Tesla and any new Model S or Model X you purchase."

3) But under the just announced referral program using a referral code which includes free unlimited supercharging. Language on my page says "In addition, up to five friends you refer will also receive free Supercharging."

I have nothing in front of me that says if path 2 or 3 above are just for this next ~3 month referral program period, or will be this way for some longer time going forward. While there is a reference to the Supercharging terms page for full details, I do not see anything there that would clarify this.

All the language I cite above is from MyTesla under the section titled Supercharging. I also fall in the group of owners that purchased prior to any announcement of charging for supercharging, so whether the language I see is the same for ALL current owners vs. those that ordered since mid-Jan'17 might see something different, I cannot say.

Is that specific and detailed enough to fully clarify the situation for you?

nathan.dudley | May 20, 2017

I got this e-mail this morning:

Starting today, you can give five friends free, unlimited Supercharging, along with $1,000 in credit toward a new Model S or Model X.
Share your referral code: http://ts.la/nathan9958

KP in NPT | May 20, 2017

It seems overly complicated. Just announce free for S/X already.

bp | May 20, 2017

When I opened the e-mail this morning notifying us that our S 100D now has FUSC, I first checked the Send date to make sure it wasn't April 1...

We placed our S 100D order on the first day - about 1 week after the deadline had passed on getting free FUSC. While it was disappointing we missed out on the free charging, it was a reasonable trade-off to get a car that has over 90 miles more rated range than our "classic" S P85.

And now - Tesla changed that - and we get FUSC after all!

Of course, there's a catch to all of this... Tesla is probably doing this to encourage their strongest supporters - their current and recent customers - to help them sell more Model S and X vehicles and help overcome the concerns that the imminent Model 3 release could depress S & X sales. Which is why this new program likely runs through the end of the year, during the ramp up of Model 3 sales (which will probably not get FUSC).

As for the rewards, not sure how many of those rewards will have much value to Tesla owners. For us #1 (kid Tesla) and #4 (PowerWall 2) are interesting, the others - probably not...

KP in NPT | May 20, 2017

I expect to see a lot of kid teslas on eBay soon.

Honestly, that is what I wanted. But se la vie. Love the car. And so far, the added range with the 100D vs the 90 would not have made a difference in my convenience.

SeaDoc | May 20, 2017

Thanks Tesla - great way to keep us in the family. My referral code ( http://ts.la/craig2575 ) will give my friends free supercharging for the car, and not the person, while we get it for the next s or x we purchase as well... Nice touch...

I can scarcely believe it! I keep refreshing my MyTesla page but the message remains the same - free supercharging until I sell the vehicle! I remain incredulous, because I most certainly didn't order m vehicle before the January 15th deadline.
